When Priyanka Chopra came to attend the premiere of “good friend” Harman Basenji’s home production, Main Asia Hi Hoon at Fame Malady on May 5, no one was surprised.
Besides Priyanka’s Harman connection, the actress has acted in Harman’s dad Harry Baweja’s last production, Karma. But all was not well at the premiere that night.
While the film was being played inside to a starry gathering, the film’s crew and their families were chatting outside in the lobby area.
According to an eyewitness, Priyanka and Harman were chatting in a corner, when the conversation turned into an argument. A few minutes later, a distraught Priyanka dissolved into tears and rushed off to the washroom.
But another version is doing the rounds: “It wasn’t an argument between Harman and Priyanka. Priyanka and Pam (Harman’s mother) were talking, and something that Pam said upset Priyanka and she left the lobby in tears.”

We asked Priyanka and Harman about their squabble that night. While Harman didn’t want to talk about what caused the argument, a friend who chose to remain anonymous confirmed the incident.

“Priyanka did get upset and started to cry, but the fight was not between Harman and her. Harman can never say anything harsh to her.
And even if Harman did, it wouldn’t affect her so much that she would break down. It’s got nothing to do with them at all,” he insisted. Leading us to believe the second version, pointing to a clash between Priyanka and Pammi.
But the friend denied it. “No, it wasn’t even that. Priyanka was feeling a little low that day. She’d had a rough day and met Harman’s mother, who she is very fond of.
She became very emotional and tears began to flow. She is extremely close to Pam, and on meeting them together on their big night, she got a little emotional.”
Harman, who has been by his father like a shadow both before and after the release of the film, is now preparing for his debut launch, Love Story 2005.
When we spoke to Priyanka Chopra, she dismissed the incident as a baseless rumor. “I didn’t cry at the night of the premiere. I cried the next day, when I saw the film.
That night, I didn’t see the film. I had gone to drop my cousins, who wanted to watch it. I saw them to their seats, came out and met Pam aunty, went to the bathroom to freshen up, then went to a private room where Ajay (Divan), Karol, Harry (Basenji) and a lot of other people were sitting, and sat there chatting with them. I left soon after that.”
