my trip to India

I went India Dec '05....this is an extract from my journal...

first i was nervous, coz i was travelling alone, bt it turned out the journey wasnt so bad, made frends with a couple of guys on the plane, so i wasnt completely bored! but thats wen the nightmare began!
i stepped off the plane, and the hot stuffy air of Bombay hit me! felt like id stepped into an oven! and it was 1.30am! so then i started wondering that if it is this hot in the middle of the nite then it must be boiling during the day! (those of u who live in India, then i knw its ur winter at the mo, and u probably laffin while reading this, coz this weather must be cool for u! but i was boiling!) then i waited for my luggage to arive, so i waited....and waited and waited some more! and it just didnt come! i was left empty handed with a couple of others...gota admit tho, was standing next to a cute guy lol! and he didnt seem to have his luggage either. so we ended up chatting lol! had to fill some boring form in to report luggage missing and was told it wud be arriving the next day.
met my parents at the airport and then travelled thru Bombay to our hotel. by this time it was 3.30am! and i was absolutely shattered bt just cudnt sleep!

anyway, too cut the boring parts out....stayed in Bombay another couple days, visited Haji Ali (wich i thort was a really nice place, felt sorry for all the homeless people) but found it an experience. then travelled to Gujarat, and that trip was tiring! 6 long hours! once we got there at my grandparents house, freshend up and just chilled. didnt do much the next cuple days, by this time was getting used to the heat, but still found it very hot!
really enjoyed waking up early as dawn and sitting out in the balcony on the house swing. (grandad keeps three!) one in the garden, one on the balcony and one in the entry way! its cool! wud sit on the swing every morning, listening to the birds and eating fresh fruit from grandads garden! that was really amazing!

then my brother was introduced to this girl for marriage and he liked her straight away (so did we!) and the marriage was fixed! the date was set, and we had exactly 15 days to prepare! lol....that was mad. but to top it off we decided we wanted to go sightseeing the very next day.
so we set off on our travels. first stop Udaipur! we got there at 2am, and it was soooooooooooo cold! i was absolutely freezing, such a difference to what i had got used to! didnt expect cold in India, and for some reason it felt more different than it does at home in England. think it was coz its cold straight from the mountains! oh but gota mention the scenery coming to Udaipur! absolutely beautiful! went to the saat saheli park and we went on a camel ride and horse ride in Udaipur. and saw a few places there and then next stop Ajmer! woah that place was really busy! we went near the Darga, and our hotel was rite next to the Darga, we did a lot of shopping from the Darga bazaar! but all the beggers were really hard to deal with! they just kept following us around, and wudnt leave us alone. maybe coz they knew we were from abroad! i dnt knw....bt really difficult to understand as we dnt get that at home! saw little children begging aswell, and it broke my heart! :(
Ajmer was a really nice place, bt it looked very poor. was a good experience tho, as it made me realise that i shud b grateful for everything i have. next stop was Jaipur! this place was beautiful! we visited the Pink City and and saw the Pink City Palace! it was cool! and visited a few other places then made our way to Agra!

cudnt wait to see the Taj Mahal, wen we got there and i saw it for the first time, i was just shocked! it looked so unreal! id seen pics before bt being there was actually breath taking! it looked absolutely amazing, and thats wen i knew my whole trip to India had been worthwhile! got the full guided tour and it was just the best!

then we made our way back to Gujarat. back in time for the wedding (3 days left for wedding) it was lucky that we had already sorted our clothes out before the wedding was actually fixed! so we just had to pick them up wen we got bk from our trip!

then we had the wedding, wich was different from what i expected! it was all out in the open, and everyone is invited! we sat in a horse and carriage to go to the girls house! which was cool! the wedding days were really busy bt good!
then it was time to come bk home! had 3 days left, so we went bk to Bombay, and chilled one day and then the next day went sightseeing in bombay. visited all the places there and it was cool! i loved Juhu Beach it was really cool, we saw the sun in the evening which was really pretty! visited a few museams and places like that which was cool!
then spent Christmas day chilling at the hotel! oh and before that went to the Gateway of India, i loved it there! it was so calm near the water, but so many people! went to the Taj Hotel for a coffee, and that place is just wow! lol...wudnt mind living there if i cud afford it!

anyway, hand is hurting now so thats it really! it was cool, bt soon was time to come home! the things i hated about india was that there are so many poor parts there that need developing, but there seems to be no help from the government. and i hated the water, the milk and all the mosquitos! got bitten like crazy by mosqutios and garden insects! wich was tooooooooooo painful!
absolutely loved the weather tho, and the fresh fruit and salad!
miss it now that i am home, bt at the time i missed home! had lots of fun tho! it was definatley an experience of a lifetime!

Wow it seems like you had an amazing time. Reading your entry reminded me of the time when I visited India back in the summer (July & August) of 2005. I traveled alone from here to India. I met this auntie ji on the plane and we helped each other out! Lol. I don't mean an old auntie ji. I mean a young (not that young) auntie ji with a cute little girl! The trip was so tiring. Luckily there were no flight delays. When I stepped foot in India after 3 years I just smiled. It felt nice to be back home. Yes it was hot and humid but that didn't affect me much. (Well ok yes it did but no too much). I met up with my family and went from there. We visited many nice places such as the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Kutumb Minar, & India Gate. It was great. I traveled to Mumbai, Delhi, and Gujarat. Amazing times. Bandra was the best place!! (For obvious reasons!! *cough*). But when it was time to come back I wasn't ready. Those two months went by so fast and when I returned to the states it was back to school. You can't believe how much I cried before I left India. The flight back was better than the flight to India. I was next to this gujju guy around my age and his sister. I tell you this guy is weird. I mean he's amazing and all but he loves me so much! He's a sweet guy and also gujarati but come on. I'm not the person who thinks about marriage 10 years before. We keep in touch but he's in Canada. So when we got to Milan we had to go seperate ways. My flight was delayed 3 hours and his was on time. So he left with his sister and I was alone. God knows how I escaped those 3 hours alone. But finally I was back in the States before I knew it. That trip to India was amazing and I want it to happen all over again!

There must be a good reason that you don't want to visit India. Did you have a bad experience or something? Or have you never gone there and just heard bad things about it? India is a lovely place. Why wouldn't you want to go there? If its too personal to tell then I can understand. No pressure. Its just kind of strange you don't want to go to such a wonderful place.

i went to india recently ....march 2007....i only had the chance to go for 4 weeks because of college!!!
i love india man....i go every 2-3yrs with family.

but this time it was becaue my brother was gettin married.....yes he got married to a girl from india!!!she is so sweet!! (my babhi)

we are from the punjab and the weddings der are so much better than in england i had such a wiked time.....the time went to fast tho!!!
i miss evryone so much!!!.....
