Vivek Oberoi wishes to look forward on his birthday
http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/1700_vivek-oberoi-wishes-to-look-forward-on-his-birthday.html

As actor Vivek Oberoi turns a year older, he seems ready to put the past behind and move on. Vivek is happy that his career has once again received a boost with the success of Shootout At Lokhandwala. Vivek had an extremely promising future when he began his career in bollywood, however since then many things changed and he managed to rub a lot of people the wrong way. But Vivek now wants to follow a new motto in life “It’s not important whether you succeed or fail in life, what’s important is that you did your best.”

Vivek has made several enemies in the film industry and one of them happens to be actor Salman Khan. Nonetheless Vivek has tried to pacify Salman several times and has even publicly apologized to him, but Sallu refuses to forgive and forget. Recently Vivek publicly apologized to Salman while performing a dance sequence, but the latter was not impressed. Many believe that this was one more of Vivek’s attempts to get attention, however he says “I did what my heart felt was right at that time. I am driven by my heart. I had publicly hurt Salman’s sentiments once and now I’ve made up publicly. There was no act behind this, I am not looking for anything more or less from all this.”

Vivek also adds “I am looking forward to a new life now. I have no strings attached, no guilt to bog me down and I am a new man who is raring to go.” Vivek has firmly decided not look back but forward, he says “Who cares what happened in the past? The magic lies in the present.” And as proof of a bright future, Vivek has a few important films in his kitty like Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul and Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Parliament. On the personal front Vivek has been linked with several women, but Vivek claims “I am a single guy but that doesn’t mean I should be linked with anyone who I even say hello to. Yes, I ‘ve been dating young, unattached girls on and off, but its nothing serious.” Recently Vivek was also linked with Saif Ali Khan’s ex-girlfriend Rozza but he claims that there is nothing between them.

On his birthday, apart from looking ahead to a bright future, Vivek will attend a pooja at his home in the morning followed by a visit to the cancer patient’s hospital where he will spend the day with them.

VIVEK OBEROI has a birthday message for himself: It's not important whether you succeed or fail in life, what's important is that you did your best. The beleaguered actor is determined to live by this belief from now on.

Yes, he agrees that he has made several mistakes in his short stint in Bollywood. He has stepped on many toes.

Taken too many fights with people. Earned considerable ill will. But he has also apologised to one and all and is trying to make up for the past wrong doings. He talked about Salman Khan. Ever since Vivek went public with their disagreement over Aishwarya (Rai), Salman has treated him like dirt. Vivek, since then, has made several attempts to patch up, but the usually large-hearted Salman hasn't been able to forgive him. Recently, at an awards function, Vivek appealed to Salman from the stage with folded hands.

Salman looked away. Many considered this as an act of desperation, but Vivek claims he is now able to go to sleep with a clear conscience.

He said of the incident, "I did what my heart felt was right at that time. I am driven by my heart. I had publicly hurt Salman's sentiments once, and now I've made up publicly. There was no act behind this. I have done my bit. I am not looking for anything more or less from all this. I know people are entitled to their views, but I am sick and tired of their views on me. I need a little respite. I am looking forward to a new life."

He is truly looking forward to life from now on. The success of Shootout At Lokhanwala after a slew of flops has brightened his horizon. It's been a landmark year. I have learned from my mistakes. Today, I have no strings attached, no guilt to bog me down, I am a new man who is raring to go, he said, stretching his arms as if to embrace the horizon for his shoot for BT. I feel like a seven-year-old kid, fascinated by everything around, Vivek added as some schoolgirls came up to him for autographs.

In Bollywood it is being said that for an actor who was looked upon as a talent to reckon with since his first film, Vivek evidently has lost focus on his work. He laughed, Who cares what happened in the past? The magic lies in the present. The power to be remembered fondly or otherwise remains within us. We are genies with magic lamps. Trust me, wish for good things, and you see it works. I have discovered this little secret. It is true, things are looking positive for Vivek at last. He's in Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul and also in Sanjay Gupta's Shootout at Parliament, but is reluctant to talk about either project.

On the personal front, the actor is enjoying his single status that has noticeably increased his hot quotient among female fans. Recently, though Vivek was linked with Kim Sharma, Saif Ali Khan's ex Rozza, and even the lanky Tabu. He clarified, "I met Rozza while shooting for Omkara when she was seeing Saif. Recently I bumped into her again a couple of times."

"That's about it. Every morning at the breakfast table at home, it gets difficult to meet my parents' eyes after they have read something embarrassing about me in the newspapers. I am a single guy, but that doesn't mean I should be linked with anyone who I say hello to. Yes, I've been dating young, unattached girls on and off, but it's nothing serious."

Is he ready to fall in love again after Aishwarya? "Love understands no rules. Relationships have their own destiny. I believe, someone special is waiting for me somewhere," said Vivek.

'From next year, I want to go back in reverse'

THAT'S NOT an easy milestone to cross but Vivek Oberoi is taking it well. A new era has started for me and I am looking forward to it, says Vivek, who turned 30 yesterday. Only he has a birthday wish. From next year, I want to go back in reverse, he laughs. And how is that?

"I want to turn 29 next year, after turning 30 this year. Let reverse counting start," he laughs.

But that apart, how will he rate the year gone by? Fantastic, he says. A year that saw his former girlfriend getting married in the first family of Bollywood and him becoming almost a pariah in the industry? "I have no complaints from the year gone by and I have no specific agenda for the year to come, says a very diplomatic Vivek, adding, I wake up everyday and ask God, So what do you have in store for me today?"

"And eventually I get to know what gift I get from Him. And how does he intend to celebrate the day? I am a home bird. So I guess I will spend my day with my family and close friends. I don't have birthday bashes. The whole idea of a quiet birthday is what appeals to me."

The actor is currently busy with preparation for Mission Istanbul.

Vivek Oberoi finds solace in religious rituals at a Bangalore math
He may have exploded in violence in Shootout at Lokhandwala , but in real life Vivek Oberoi is seeking peace and calm through the spiritual route. The actor was in Bangalore on Saturday to celebrate his 32nd birthday and it wasn’t with friends at a swinging nightspot; instead, he spent the day at the Shree Ramashrama in Girinagar. The actor had come down with sis Meghana and was at the math for three days.

“Vivek has been visiting our math for the past two years and has been in touch with us regularly. His family attends all the major functions at our establishment and even visited us 10 days ago. It was then that Vivek expressed his desire to celebrate his birthday with us,” says PR person for the math, Arun Shyam.

The actor’s birthday, which falls on September 8, was marked by rituals this year. “Vivek began with early morning pujas. In the afternoon, he performed pujas for cows and donated Rs 96,000 towards their upkeep. He also lit 32 lamps and took the blessings of the seer of the math,” says Arun. The next day, Vivek conducted a final homa before leaving to meet his industrialist relatives who live here. “He made a speech and spoke in Kannada and we were all very happy to see him so at peace,” says Arun.

Vivek too, he says, was very moved by the experience. “It’s the best birthday I’ve had and I’ve realised the true meaning of life. I haven’t felt this satisfied in a long time,” the actor said. Vivek will be back on November 18 for another celebration at the math along with his parents Suresh and Yashodhara.

Thrice the fun on a Sunday!

Boys will be boys and kids will be kids. So it was all that and more on a relaxed Sunday, when the actors from a recently released Bollywood comedy caper gathered at Cinemax, Versova to bring smiles on the faces of children from Cancer Patient’s Aid Association.

Over 250 kids clapped and cheered as they got a glimpse of their favourite actor Vivek Oberoi and Vivek too couldn’t help but smile widely at their enthusiasm. It was heartening to see the camaraderie between Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh, who were spotted joking and laughing with each other.

And when Aashish Chowdhary joined them, it was thrice the fun! To add a little feminine charm to the occasion, Shamita Shetty too joined in the fun with her mother Sunanda Shetty.

As it was Rose Day too, the lithe actress distributed red roses amongst the kids. The festive occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi also added to the celebrations. So many reasons to celebrate — this Sunday was truly how Sundays are meant to be!

Vivek Oberoi set to follow Shahrukh, Salman and get six pack abs

After seeing SRK’s six pack abs, it seems now all his colleagues in bollywood are set to follow suit. Aamir too is said to be working out hard as he wants to tone up his body for his bare body act in forthcoming film Ghajini. Abhishek too it seems has hit the gym with a vengeance and is working out extremely hard to lose all the extra weight that he had put on for his role in Guru. Now Vivek Oberoi is also working out to get six pack abs for his role in Mission Istanbul.
Vivek Oberoi was last seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s Shootout At Lokhandwala, he had put on a bit of weight as he had an injury and was unable to work out for quite some time. However now director Apoorva too has asked all his actors in Mission Istanbul to get a lean look for the film. Hence Vivek has been working out with his trainer Satyajit Chourasia to get six pack abs. In Mission Istanbul, Vivek will play a Turkish commando called Rizwan and hence he is preparing for his role extensively. The film is also action oriented and one of the best Hollywood action guys George Agular has been roped in to do the action stunts. Also the villain of the film is above 6 feet and very muscular, naturally all the rest of the actors too need to have a strong and muscular look. Vivek is also taking yoga, weight training and Tai Chi classes as part of his preparation for the role.
Vivek’s trainer Chourasia claims “Now, Vivek's four-pack is already showing; he will acquire six-pack abs in the next couple of months. He works out at the Barbarian gym every day for three and a half hours." Vivek is also following a special diet mainly of proteins and he avoids rice, carbs and sweets.

Vivek Oberoi helps writer and friend Tushar Hiranandani lose 34 kgs in three months
http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200709/Image/270907/e4.jpg

Vivek Oberoi devised a novel way for his writer friend Tushar Hiranadani (of Masti, Kyon Ho Gaya Na and Naksha fame) to lose weight. Tushar, who weighed 110 kgs, lost 34 kgs in three months. Oberoi, who needed to get into shape for his role in Mission Istanbul, challenged Tushar to have a competition, and get into shape before he did.

Tushar says, "Yes I have lost 34 kgs in three months. We both had this competition between us. Vivek had to get in shape for his role in Mission Istanbul and we had this race between us to see who would lose more weight faster. He anyway is in shape. He called me to work out with his trainer Satya, but you know how it feels to work out with a special trainer and with stars around you… I was a little embarrassed and so I stopped going after 3-4 days. I started working out at the gym in my building with my trainer Sunil Toraskar.
Hiranandani adds, "Vivek had told me exactly what to do. For the first month he asked me to stop drinking and just jog. When he first told me to run for three hours a day I could not believe it, but he is a friend and so I just blindly followed him. By the end of the month I was running from Lokhandwala to Bandra and back. I started enjoying my work-out."

Tushar followed every bit of ftness gyan that Oberoi imparted to him. He says, "He told me to completely give up carbs and start having my dinner by 7 pm. He gave the entire fitness regime to my trainer. Sunil made sure that I followed it. After three months, I had lost 34 kgs - from 110 kgs, I was down to 76 kgs, and my waist reduced from 42 inches to 30 inches. Vivek also used to keep a check on me to see that I was sticking to the regimen. I had just lost control over my life after problems in my personal life and I am thankful to Vivek, who has stood by me like a rock."

My turn: Vivek Oberoi

After Hollywood remakes, now Tamil remakes are the latest to storm Bollywood, and our actors are grabbing opportunities coming their way.

Aamir Khan is busy with Ghajini, Salman Khan is shooting for Pokhiri and Shah Rukh Khan has agreed to work with Shankar in Robot, which is said to be a remake too.

The latest to join the bandwagon is Vivek Oberoi who has been signed for UTV’s next 7G Rainbow Colony.

The film is a remake of the Tamil hit of the same name, and will be directed by Selvaraghavan, who has assisted Mani Ratnam, and has also directed the original version.

Film trivia

Post Shootout At Lokhadwala, Vivek has hiked his price and the grapevine has it that UTV had to pay a whopping amount to him as the signing amount.

A source reveals, “Vivek had recently visited Chennai and watched the original film with producer Dhanush and director Selvaraghavan. After watching the film, he asked the director to start the film as soon as possible.” The source adds, “Selva will first finish the shooting of Aayirathil Oruvan before starting this film.”

The female lead opposite Vivek has not been finalised yet. “They are considering Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan for the role,” says our source.

Vivek was the chief guest at Aayirathil Oruvan’s audio launch and feels it will be a ‘rocking film’. There, he revealed that his mentor Mani Ratnam was all praise for Selva and considered Selva as ‘the most promising young director in Tamil films’.

Refreshing change

Incidentally, Vivek has not been doing any romantic films since Kyun... Ho Gaya Na with Aishwarya Rai. So, this film will be a refreshing change for his fans after seeing him in action films like Omkara and Shootout At Lokhandwala.

“Vivek is busy preparing himself for Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul and once he finishes the film, he will be working with Selvaragha-van,” says our source. We tried to get in touch with Vivek Oberoi, but he was unavailable for comment.

Who is Selvaraghavan?

Selvaraghavan, who hails from Tamil Nadu, is one of India’s emerging lot of film directors. He is the son of an ace film director Kastoori Raja. He assisted Mani Ratnam in some films — the last film being Yuva. He shot to fame with his directorial debut Thuluvatho Illamai — a movie about adolescent gags and teenage capers.

His next film Kadhal Kondein won both box office and critical success. In 2005, he dished out one of the classic movies of recent times — 7G Rainbow Colony, starring Ravi Krishna and Sonia Agarwal. Incidentally, Selva married Sonia after the film was declared a hit!

VIVEK'S B'DAY AT SHREE RAMACHANDRAPURA MATH

Ramashrama, Bangalore 08th Sep. 2007 : Bollywood Star Vivek Oberoi celebrated his birthday at Shree Ramasharama, Girinagar on 8th Sep. 2007 in a traditional way by offering Poojas and Havans during the day, ending with a special Pooja for Gou Matha along with lighting 30 decorated lamps marking his 30th birthday.
As a gesture fitting the occasion Shree Oberoi offered donations to rescue 30 cows under the Gou Sanjivini programme run by Shree Ramachandrapura Math, a novel way of rescuing and protecting cows in distress.Dressed in a traditional South Indian attire, Shree Vivek Oberoi, offered a special Gou Pooja in the evening and later sought the blessings of Shree Raghaveshawara Bharathi Swamiji.

Addressing the devotees gathered, Shree Vivek said, “ For the first time in my life I am celebrating my Birthday in the right way. I am feeling as if I am celebrating all my 30 birthdays today itself as I have been following the western style so far. Westerners mark their birthdays by putting off the lights whereas, we Indians light lamps and celebrate it thus bringing light to our souls and life. I pray the almighty to give me more strength to serve Gou Matha in all possible ways. I seek blessings and guidance of Shree Swamiji in shaping my life in future so that I will be able to do some purposeful work for the society and also be part in the noble task of saving Gou Matha.
Blessing Vivek, Shree Swamiji hounoured him with a memento and a ‘Karnataka Peta’ (a traditional Karnataka Turban).

The atmosphere was pretty tense at filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia’s 40th birthday party organised recently. Aishwarya Bachchan’s former boyfriend Vivek Oberoi and husband Abhishek Bachchan were coming face-to-face, after all.

Lakhia had thrown the party at his newfound friend Zayed Khan’s pad. However, when Vivek Oberoi walked in, he headed straight to the bar where Abhishek was holding on to his drink. Both exchanged greetings, much to the disappointment of the Bollywood janta.

An eyewitness recounts, We never expected the two of them to have a conversation. While Vivek was forthcoming, Abhishek was extremely cordial, too. They were friendly to each other but Vivek didn’t dare to ask Abhishek about Ash. The real drama unfolded when Sanjay Dutt sauntered in.

The very sight of a jubilant Vivek Oberoi left Dutt scowling. After wishing Apoorva, he retired to a corner. He was heard murmuring his displeasure at Vivek’s presence. Well, Vivek had made the mistake of wooing Dutt’s girlfriend Manyata in the past. The story goes that Vivek sent lovey-dovey SMSs and flowers to Manyata.

Jadoo ki Jhappi!

An actor who attended the party, on condition of anonymity, confirms Dutt’s disapproval of Vivek. Sanju is the last guy to have any problems with anyone. Vivek had pissed him off by hitting on Manyata and ever since, Sanju has been very cold towards him. Apoorva’s birthday party was a private affair and he didn’t expect to see Vivek there.

During the party, Vivek even made attempts to socialise with Sanju. However, all he got in return was a cold shoulder and a prolonged stare. An eyewitness informs, Initially, Sanju was simply ignoring Vivek. Later, when Vivek insisted on exchanging greetings with him, he just stared at him. We feared a showdown and a rain of blows. Thankfully, things didn’t get ugly.

Bright-eyed and pushy-tailed!

Vivek Oberoi got into a nasty brawl recently. He pushed and abused Mohit Suri’s AD, Vishal Mahadkar, at a suburban hotel
Vivek Oberoi and Vishal Mahadkar (director Mohit Suri’s chief assistant director) had a big fight recently. It happened a couple of days ago at a popular at Chinese restaurant, at a suburban five-star hotel.
Vivek, reportedly, passed some unsavoury comments on Mahadkar. The brawl took a nasty turn and ultimately, Suri had to step in to put an end to the scuffle.

Vivek Oberoi
Says an eye-witness, “Oberoi and Mahadkar know each other for a year now, but they don’t get along well. Oberoi was waiting for his car outside China House at 2.30 a.m. When Mahadkar walked by and Oberoi pushed Mahadkar.”

Adds our source, “When Oberoi abused Mahadkar, the latter retaliated. The two were about to come to blows, but Suri intervened in time and saved the situation.”

Mohit Suri confirmed the fight. “Yes, this happened. Both fell over each other. Kaafi gaali galoch bhi hua (they abused each other a lot). But Vishal would be the right person to talk more about this issue,” said Suri.

When contacted, Mahadkar confirmed the brawl. “Vivek was waiting for his car and so was I. When I was passing by, he pushed me. I don’t know if he was drunk, but he behaving like a stud. This is not done. Celebrities should know how to conduct themselves in public places,” he said.

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200710/Image/031007/E_3.jpg

Vishal Mahadkar
Mahadkar admits that he abused Oberoi. “But that was only after Vivek abused me. I gave it back to him. He was saying a few other things which I could not comprehend. After I looked over Mohit’s shoulder when he intervened, I saw that Vivek had gone way,” he added.

But what is the problem between them? “Vivek and I had met at a common friend’s house about a year back. There too, he was trying to be over-smart. We had an argument there. That was over and done. I don’t know why he picked a fresh fight with me,” says Mahadkar.

Vivek Oberoi remained unavailable for comment.

Abhishek-Vivek to forget past

Unlike Shootout At Lookhandwala where Abhishek Bachchan and Viveik Oberoi came in separate mutually exclusive segments, Abhishek and Viveik will be sharing screen space with each other in Apoorva Lakhia next Mission Istanbul.

And neither has any problem doing so.

Says producer Suniel Shetty, "Why should they have any problem? Abhishek is a thorough professional. He has no problem with ANYBODY. And weren't they both part of Shootout At Lokhandwala?

Yes, they do have scenes together in Mission Istanbul. And I'm sure they'll do them splendidly. It's very unfair to bring in personal matters to question their professionalism.

The script is still being worked out. Neither Abhishek nor Viveik have expressed any misgivings about working together. There's unnecessary speculation. "

Suniel currently shooting for his tv show Biggest Loser, confirms the vast cast. "We've already confirmed Bobby Deol, Viveik, Abhishek, Shabbir Ahluwaliah. Tusshar Kapoor has problems with the combined dates required with the other actors. The problem is now being worked out…Tusshar is doing a lot of films. "

The leading ladies are now being finalized. "They're integral to the action. I need ladies who can kick ass as effectively as the boys, " says Suniel.

Mission Istanbul is being made on an international scale. "The theme requires an international vision. My director is browsing for F-X team from the outside. It will be top-of-the-line technicians from abroad.

They're a step ahead not because they're more talented but because they're more professional. The guys who do car stunts do just that. Whereas other departments of stunts are performed by other specialists.

When I bring an action team from abroad I bring in their entire expertise and a meticulously streamlined team which knows exactly what To do once they're on the sets. "

The film will be shot abroad. "We're shooting completely in Turkey. The government there will extend all assistance to us. The infrastructure provided to our project would be unprecedented. Fortunately right now, India and Indian cinema are very happening across the world. "

Adds Suniel, "We can no longer get away with sub-standard spectacles. Today the guys who shot Dhoom or the forthcoming Cash have brought an unparalleled expertise to our cinema.

In both my forthcoming projects Mission Istanbul and Raaste (Abhishek, Aishwarya, John, Sikandar Kher) I'm getting topnotch technicians associated with the best of Hollywood cinema. We're spending 25-30 crores on Mission Istanbul. I'm ready to spend more. I trust my director Apoorva Lakhia completely. "

Rumours are abuzz that Vivek Oberoi got into a verbal spat and fist-fight at a suburban hotspot recently.

The man at the receiving end of Vivek’s aggression was an assistant director from the Bhatt camp, reports say.

The incident reportedly took place recently at restaurant China House in the dead of the night. It was well past 2 am when Vivek was waiting for his car.

Not far from him was Vishal Mahadkar, an assistant to director Mohit Suri , also waiting to leave.

It is not clear what sparked off the tiff. But reports say the two men cast each other stern glances and Vivek pushed Vishal when the latter walked close to him.

The two men then hurled verbal abuses at each other and were about to come to blows when director Mohit Suri intervened and separated them, reports say.

Both Mohit and Vishal have told a Mumbai tabloid that the incident did happen. However, Vivek is denying that he got into any scuffle.

Apparently, Vivek and Vishal have known each other for a year, but they never got along well. The two have had their differences in the past but things never came to the point of a brawl.

Celebrating Shootout... with a difference

When the success of a film is celebrated, generally the entire star cast is expected to be present. However, when the success party of Shootout At Lokhandwala was held, hardly anyone was seen.

The only person conspicuous by his presence was Vivek Oberoi. This film came as a saving grace for Vivek after a series of flops. So his presence was understandable. For small screen star, Rohit Roy, this film made a huge difference, “I am still clueless as to how people handle this big a success? How do they take care of themselves? For me, this is my career’s first hit as well as super hit.”

Another reason for the stars to avoid the celebration might by because not many got to share the screen space as compared to a select few. Ask director, Sanjay Gupta, as to why some of the stars weren’t seen much on screen and he got defensive. Instead of responding to the question, he asked, “Who is missing on the screen? Please name them.”

Well, as the film maker if you do not know the big names that didn’t get enough screen space, who are we to say anything?

The nasha of playing Maya Dolas and more…

Post the lover boy tag, Vivek Oberoi, seems to have donned the image of a gangster. After getting a favorable response for Omkara, the Oberoi lad will be seen playing a similar character in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Lokhandwala and he has also managed to garner a good response for it.

Ask him about his career and he says, “I’ll use the term, ‘career’, 50 years from now as I’ve just started off. It’s just the beginning. I’ve taken my first step and I’m hardly five years old in the industry. There is a lot to do and I want to die with my acting shoes on.”

After the fiasco with Salman Khan and some movies going downhill, Vivek seems to have mellowed down and is also very thankful about a lot many things. He stated, “I think it’s just true destiny as there are many more, very talented people than me, who do not have even a percent of what I have. I am still here, doing what I love most, still respected. Despite bad films and some insincere efforts, I’m loved by my family and fans so much. I am a very lucky man.”

While talking about similarities between the characters of Chandu and Maya Dolas, Vivek seems to find no resemblance. He explains, “Chandu was a character that came from the lower layer of the society. Whereas, going by the screenplay, Maya Dolas was always Maya bhai. He had this nasha in his eyes, like he is on some substance…some drug. Only thing is the drug was that of fearlessness, of a sense of power, like he was playing with destiny…For me Maya Dolas died 16years ago, but came alive in the process of finding Maya…making Maya.”

Talking about his role in Shootout…Vivek mentions this particular scene wherein he had to punch Sanjay Dutt. “It has never happened with me that the director has said ‘cut’ and I haven’t made my move. But in this scene where I was to punch Sanjay Dutt, I just couldn’t make myself do it. So I walked up to him and asked him to give me a hug and Sanju, like a sport, said it’s all a part of your job. That is when we went ahead with the shot,” said a grinning Vivek.

Well, Vivek seems to have matured quite a lot, as it is obvious by the way he responses on being asked about Abhishek Bachchan. He was all praises about the special appearance done by Abhishek in Shootout… and added that, “I’ll be more than glad to do the same for him.” As for talking about Aishwarya, he just maintains a dignified silence. Now that’s the Vivek we knew as a newcomer, who got carried away by scandals and controversies. Well, as long as he is back being the good boy, it’s all for the best.

Vivek Oberoi to do a romantic film after a long time

May be it is just a coincidence. Vivek Oberoi has not acted in an out-and-out romantic movie for a long time.

After Kyon, Ho Gaya Na and Kisna , Vivek has been keeping mushy films at bay. Rather, he has mostly been doing comedies and action films. Whether it was because of personal reasons or due to the failure of ‘Kyon, Ho Gaya Na’ and ‘Kisna’, is debatable.

But now, if reports are to be believed, Vivek has agreed to act in the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit 7G Rainbow Colony , which is a touching tale of a guy in love with a girl in his neighborhood.

The movie will reportedly be directed by Selvaraghavan , who directed the original Tamil flick. UTV will produce the Hindi version.

Vivek’s co-star in the film has still not been finalized.

The shooting is likely to begin after Vivek is through with Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul .

Mumbai: Actor Vivek Oberoi's film career might still be on the recovery path but the actor decided to take time out for a charitable cause.

Keeping in line with the rest of Bollywood, Vivek had his brush with art to raise funds for breast cancer. But the question is, does Vivek know anything about art?

“I don’t know even know the P of painting,” he says.

So what brings him to this art exhibition? "My sister Megha paints and I buy all her paintings, I have to!" he says.

When asked about pairing up with Abhishek Bachchan in his next movie Mission Istanbul, Vivek just refused to give an answer.

So does this mean the Ash factor is still brewing between the two? We can only wonder.

Femina , the popular women’s magazine, who earlier launched the Femina Power of Pink initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer, hosted an art exhibition at the Tao art gallery for the noble cause.

Comprising works by eminent artists from across the country, the show was inaugurated by actor Vivek Oberoi, a great supporter of the cause.

Devieka Bhojwani, a staunch supporter of the cause as well, elaborated about how the drive is positively affecting the lives of cancer patients.

“This artistic endeavour helps generate revenue for women afflicted with breast cancer but cannot afford treatment. It helps them get a new lease of life,” she said. Vivek — a self-proclaimed “budding art collector” — observed each artwork with immense interest, asking the artists about their interpretations of their work. When asked about the cause, the actor replied, “As a conscientious citizen, it’s my moral duty to give back to society.”

The evening saw artist Ajay De also make a brief appearance.

Things are finally looking up for Vivek Oberoi. He will be joining the Indian Army on an honorary basis
http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200710/Image/131007/36-01.jpg

If all goes well, Vivek Oberoi (who re-invented himself in Shootout at Lokhandwala by playing the dreaded gangster Maya Dolas) will soon join the Territorial Army. “Vivek has received the offer from the Indian Army and he has shown keen interest to take it up,” says a source close to the Oberoi
family.

When contacted, Vivek's father, Suresh Oberoi, confirmed the news that his son has received the offer. He said, “Of course, Vivek won't stop acting. He will join the Army on an honorary basis.”

Vivek will have to undergo a fitness test before he takes up his post. “We have yet to meet the Chief of Army Staff to get the details. But I must say that Vivek is very excited about this. Once that meeting happens, things will make further headway,” added Suresh Oberoi.
Suresh Oberoi revealed that many of his family members have served the Indian Army. He said, “My grandfather served the Army for 30 years. My dad was in the Army during the British rule, but he was thrown out because he went on to join the Bhagat Singh's group. Vivek's nana retired as a General.”

“As for me, I wanted to join the Army and had even sat for exams for the same, but then the environment at home was more inclined towards medicine- we have a neurosurgeon, a pediatrician, and my elder sister is a Indian dean at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. But, my life took a turn. Main doctor bante bante actor ban gaya,” Suresh said.

The proud father sounded very happy for his son. He didn't say this in so many words, but his concluding statement clearly suggests that Vivek has risen like a Phoenix from the Ashes after his excellent portrayal of Maya Dolas in Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout at Lokhandwala.

“Vivek was in a horrible situation. He was undergoing a very tough time in his life when he started working on Shootout at Lokhandwala. He had too much stress. The media had gone against him. He had lost his girlfriend (read Aishwarya Rai). Any other person in his place may have taken to alcohol. But he decided to fight back. He gave his all while playing Maya Dolas. I think that his commendable performance in Shootout at Lokhandwala has proved a point,” added Suresh.

In a freewheeling chat with TIMES NOW's Sriparna Mitra, Vivek Oberoi gets candid and talks on host of issues ranging from 'khiska cinema' to his next film -- Apoorva Lakhia's 'Mission Istanbul', in which he is starring alongwith Abhishek Bachchan and his friendship with junior Bachchan.

When asked about the meaning of the new terminology coined by him 'Khiska Cinema', tongue firmly in cheek, Vivek said:"I like playing kishka hua characters i.e different characters. I like playing characters that are slightly off, slightly different and not making the same normal choices of characters because I think, I am that way in real life too. I don't make normal choices in life, as normal is very boring."

When probed further about the kind khiska stuff he has indulged in so far, he averred:"I am known to be a pretty crazy guy. I party pretty hard, I work pretty hard and I do lot of things in extremes. I am a pretty mad person and believe in living in life to the fullest. My friends know me well and always keep on throwing some challenge or the other."

Talking about controversies surrounding him, he quipped: “No, they are mostly not my doing. Most of the time, I am dragged in."

When quizzed about his forthcoming movie, Apoorva Lakhia's 'Mission Istanbul', and his character in the movie, he said:"I am playing a Turkish commando. It's the first time, I am playing such a character so I am trying to look at the physicality of it, the whole agility of the character and the whole Turkish flavour."

When asked whether he shares cold vibes with Abhishek Bachchan, who his co-staring with him in the movie, Vivek said:"Why should I share cold vibes with Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek and I are friends and colleagues and have worked together earlier. We had a great time working together in 'Yuva', and I am looking forward to work with him in 'Mission Istanbul.' In fact, Abhishek mentioned that he had been to Istanbul before and told me that it would be cold out there. He also told me that he will take me around to show me the place. It will be good fun."

Talking about relationships, he said:"I am very much single at this point in time and am very happy. I am keeping it that way. I am an eternal romantic. I do go out and meet interesting people, however, I am not into an relationship now. I am waiting for the right person to come along."

He adds, “Earlier, Vivek was in a horrible situation. He was undergoing a very tough time in his life when he started working for Shootout at Lokhandwala. He had too much stress. The media had gone against him. He had lost his girlfriend (read Aishwarya). Any other person in his place would have taken to alcohol. But he decided to fight back.”

But, Vivek Oberoi is embarrassed to read about them at the breakfast table. TGIS caught up with the actor

His off-screen antics are getting more print space these days than what he does on screen. So, whether it is signing a film that also stars Abhishek Bachchan, his numerous attempts to kiss and make up with Salman Khan or whether he is being cold-shouldered by Sanjay Dutt — Vivek Oberoi is constantly in the news. “I will not clarify anything that has been written about my personal life and not my work. When my film releases, it’ll be written about by the media. But, what they are writing about me does not bother me.

Doesn’t it ever? “Well, I don’t sit back and think, what I should do.’ But yes, I do get embarrassed when we are at the breakfast table in the morning and my parents end up reading some random snippet about me in a tabloid. The strange look on their faces makes me feel very uncomfortable. At the same time, they understand how this industry works. That way, I have very understanding parents,” he explains.

Currently shooting in Jammu, Vivek will be in Istanbul soon for the next two months for the shooting of Mission Istanbul. “I am doing some tough training for the movie. I have to be physically perfect for this role. My look for this movie is completely different. It is a surprise, so just wait and watch,” he shares.

Vivek, reportedly, is also associated with many NGOs. “I don’t do it for publicity, I do it because it makes me feel closer to God,” he says. Good going, boy!

A New Dawn

http://www.fotocorp.com/fcsmdimg%5CFC26070728.jpg

* You take long breaks between movies. Is that planned?
I think I have taken a long break from partying (laughs)! On a serious note, I am preparing for my next film Mission Istanbul. I’ll be in Turkey for two months shooting constantly. I’ll work hard, finish the film and party harder.

* You seem to enjoy roles with shades of grey?
Yes, it fascinates me to play a role with many layers, which grey characters usually have. It’s a change from the conventional hero’s job. I enjoy being able to excite the galleries and evoke seetibaazi (whistling) on certain scenes. But I did play the good guy in Omkara.

* Tell us something about Mission Istanbul
It’s a thriller by Apoorva Lakhia. I play the role of a Turkish commando. So it means I have to look agile and Turkish. I dropped 12 kilos to fit the bill and will be learning the language as well. I leave for Turkey on October 20. Shooting will begin soon.

* When will we see you in a chocolaty lovey-dovey role again?
You know, I’ve been thinking along the same lines. I haven’t done a love story in ages. But tell me, where are the scripts? These days, I am in a very romantic mood. I am missing doing those roles. Going by the trend, I think I’ll have to work in something like The Love Story of a Don!

* Abhishek Bachchan will be one of your co-stars in Mission Istanbul. What do you have to say to that?
Oh, awesome! He’s a great guy. We have worked together in Yuva earlier.

* Is there any air of discomfort between the two of you?
Not at all. We met recently at Apoorva’s birthday party.

* You are frequently spotted at charity events
I don’t like to talk about this. For me, it’s something sacred, an embodiment of God. Apart from the love and adulation that I get from my fans, I need a spiritual recharge, which is what I get from such events.

Director Selvaraghavan, who is directing 'Aayirathil Oruvan' starring Karthi and Reema Sen, is flooded with offers.

The young director, who hogged the headlines with movies like 'Kadhal Kondien', '7G Rainbow Colony', has been signed to do two films in Bollywood.

Vivek Oberoi acts in the Hindi remake of Selvaraghavan's '7G Rainbow Colony' while Ajay Devgan is tipped to play the title role in his Hindi remake of 'Pudhupettai'.

Adding more, the director has been roped into direct a movie starring Suriya and Trisha later next year.

A busy bee indeed is Selvaraghavan.

Selva on a signing spree?

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2793/14515682selva120assb9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Is top director Selvaraghavan on a signing spree? "Yes" seems to be the answer, as he has just now started the shoot of his Karthi- Reema-Andrea starrer Aayirathil Oruvan, in Chalakudy forests in Kerala.
Next on the pipeline is his Hindi remake of 7G, Rainbow Colony, starring Vivek Oberoi, and being produced by Radaan Mediaworks in association with UTV. Recently Vivek Oberoi said in an interview that – "I'm bowled over by Selva's style of film making. I will start work on this Tamil remake in the first week of December."

At the same time a Chennai newspaper has reported that Selva has signed a new Hindi film, which would be a remake of his flop Tamil film Pudhupettai, with Ajay Devgan as the hero! Nothing is revealed about who the producer or when the film will start rolling!

Meanwhile Ramesh Babu ( Producer of Vijay's Pokkiri) of Kanakaratna movies has confirmed that he has signed up Selvaraghavan to do his next film in Tamil, which will have Surya and Trisha in the lead ! The film is expected to start rolling immediately after Surya completes Gautham Menon's Vaaranum Aayiram, sometime in February 2008!

So what does one make of all these happenings? How can Selva, a creative and careful director who takes time over his projects, and does only one film at a time do four films simultaneously? Now the big question being asked in the trade- Is Selva going to be a remote control director, doing a Tamil and Hindi film at the same time?

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1051118/images/18etc1vivek2.jpg

He has risen out of ash (all puns intended) and has finally moved on. Meet Vivek Oberoi who is "leading the life of a schoolboy." He gushes, "I have been travelling, eating, playing and being carefree.. Life after Shootout At Lokhandwala has been a happening party." And what's more? He has lost weight and is back to his lean self now.

"When I signed Mission Istanbul, I was overweight by 12 kilos. I am all set to play a freak. My character is real khiska hua in head, but all for a good cause. He is a Turkish commando." In the film, Oberoi will be working with Abhishek Bachchan, but he claims to be absolutely chilled out. "He is an amazing co-star. We worked together in Yuva, and gelled well. I am looking forward to be with him this time too."

Ask him about his mantra in life and pop comes the reply, "My agenda in life now is to work hard.. but party harder. I lived through a low phase. I am more focussed now. It's films and only films for me. And yes, I love to party!" And such is his passion for the P word that he recalls, "I was at this Pune lounge. Somehow the crowd came to know and requested, if I could dance with them on Ganpat.. I agreed and the song was played 20 times. At last, I had to request them to change the track. We partied till midnight." The actor has also turned spiritual. "I visited many spiritual places. Rishikesh remains my all time favourite, where I often go to seek solace and strength."

A source close to Vivek tells us, “When Vivek learnt that Duke had developed tumour, he was heartbroken. Duke does not mingle much with anybody in the family except with Vivek.”

It’s known that Vivek Oberoi considers his pet dogs Duke and Ivy (boxers) the world’s most adorable boxers. “I just come back home to them whenever I am stressed and they give me so much unconditional love. They always make me smile,” he has always said.

A few days back, one of his beloved pets, Duke, developed a tumour. The dog was in a serious state. A major surgery was required. A source close to Vivek tells us, “When Vivek learnt that Duke had developed tumour, he was heartbroken. Duke does not mingle much with anybody in the family except with Vivek.”

“Hence, Vivek took time off from his busy schedule and attended to Duke himself. Whenever Duke needed a medical session, Vivek would gladly take him to a veterinary doctor,” the source adds.

Vivek, who is in Turkey shooting for Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission in Istanbul , was unavailable for comment. His father, Suresh Oberoi, confirmed how Vivek had nursed Duke back to good health. “‘That’s right. Vivek was actively involved in Duke’s recuperation,” he said.

“To begin with, he was immensely worried before and during the surgery. If he had a meeting which he could not avoid in the morning, he would ask for an evening appointment from the veterinary doctor. He would even look into Duke’s diet after the operation was over. Also, he took Duke out for morning walks at the Juhu beach. Only after the doctor declared that Duke is fine, did Vivek relax,” Suresh added.

Vivek not doing Alladin

Sujoy Ghosh's Alladin starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Ritesh Deshmukh, was also supposed to be starring Vivek Oberoi. The actor had been roped in to play Ritesh's friend in the film. However, the actor is not part of the film anymore.

There are quite a few versions doing the rounds about why Vivek is no more in the film. One version has it that even though Sujoy and Vivek are friends and have worked together in Home Delivery, it seems that Vivek was asking for too much money so it did not work out. But another version has it that the Big B was not too keen on working with Vivek in the film. Vivek had too many things going against him in the film, so he decided to walk out as he did not want to make it uncomfortable for Sujoy. Actor Sahil Khan is believed to have stepped into Vivek's role. He was approached just a few days ago and will start shooting in the first week of January. Alladin is supposed to be the first Bollywood scene to be shot entirely in front of a green screen. All the scenes will be done in front of a digital screen and later SFX technicians will work on it.

Jacqueline Fernandes, Miss Sri Lanka 2006, is all set to enter Hindi film industry.

With her stunning looks and shapely body, Jacqueline is a perfect candidate to be a heroine in Bollywood. Only her linguistic shortcoming is an obstacle. But Jacqueline is determined to overcome that too.

This 22-year-old beauty from Sri Lanka has been hobnobbing with celebrities from Bollywood, the most noticeable of them Vivek Oberoi , who was seen publicly with her on several occasions in June this year.

A window of opportunity opened for Jacqueline to get her foot in the door to Bollywood when actress Ayesha Takia walked out of director Sujoy Ghosh ’s film Aladdin .

Rumours say it was Vivek (who acted in Ghosh’s previous film Home Delivery ) who got Jacqueline introduced to Ghosh as a possible replacement for Ayesha.

Jacqueline was signed for the part. She plays princess Jasmine in the film.

It is a good break for Jacqueline as the film has superstar Amitabh Bachchan playing a genie and Ritesh Deshmukh playing the title role of ‘Aladdin’.

Jacqueline, who loves Bollywood movies, has begun brushing up her Hindi but grapevine has it that she may not dub her dialogues in the film.

Vivek Oberoi will be joining the Indian Army on an honorary basis!
by Rajiv Dutta
http://www.indiatarget.com/cgi-bin/detailnews.cgi?id=5374

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2387/viv1of2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

If all goes well, Vivek Oberoi (who re-invented himself in Shootout at Lokhandwala by playing the dreaded gangster Maya Dolas) will soon join the Territorial Army. “Vivek has received the offer from the Indian Army and he has shown keen interest to take it up,” says a source close to the Oberoi family.

Main doctor bante bante actor ban gaya ,” Suresh said.

Vivek, Zayed Perform Own Stunts

http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1694/zayedvivek10qf6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Zayed Khan and Vivek Oberoi insisted on doing their own stunts while shooting for Apurva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul. The film, which is being shot in Turkey, saw the two actors doing their own dare-devil stunts, instead of using body doubles. The director had to give in to their demands, albeit reluctantly.

Lakhia had a tough time explaining to Zayed that he needed a body double to for a scene that required him to crash through a glass window and plunging down into the street below, from the eighth floor of a building. Zayed, however, did not comply with the director's wishes. It was the same with Vivek too. The two of the actors insisted on doing the stunts themselves for a scene which required them to jump from a six storey building onto a helicopter and then jump into the sea before the helicopter explodes. The director had arranged for body doubles for the actors as he did not expect them to do the stunts themselves. The climate is so cold that nobody expected Zayed and Vivek to plunge in to the icy cold sea. He initially tried to deter them but finally gave into their wish. But the director is not at all comfortable with the idea of his actors doing the stunts themselves as it can prove to be very hazardous. In fact, it is only after stunt directors Javed and Ejaz gave the green signal and said that they were confident about Vivek and Zayed pulling it off, did he allow them to do so. The film, which is produced by Suneil Shetty and Ekta Kapoor, will be completed by mid- December.

shunted out: Vivek Oberoi

Sanjay Gupta replaces Oberoi with Kunal Kapoor to appease one-time friend Sanjay Dutt

Everyone has his or her own favourite theory about the root cause of Sanjay Dutt’s sudden swerve away from buddy Sanjay Gupta.

Sanjay’s current flame Maanayata is being held responsible for this dosti gone bad, as she apparently has disconnected her Duttsaab from his cronies.

But what spelled doom for the Dutt-Gupta yarana is a controversy surrounding Vivek Oberoi.

Causing rifts

Apparently, it was told to Sanjay Dutt that his buddy Gupta has been bragging to all and sundry that he would make “another Sanjay Dutt out of Vivek Oberoi.” This brag wasn’t taken too kindly by Dutt, who believes Vivek tried to create trouble between him and his beloved.

When these rumours of his alleged statement reached Sanjay Gupta, he was aghast. In order to prove his loyalty to Dutt, the director shelved plans of casting Oberoi in his future projects including the Kaante sequel entitled Khotte Sikkey.

“It’s too early to talk about Khotte Sikkey. But yes, Kunal Kapoor is being seriously considered,” is all Gupta will say on record.

Loyalty test

But Gupta has confessed his helplesness to friends. “Gupta has no idea what Dutt is bugged about. When he tries to broach the subject, the star either clams up or is whisked away by his lady love. Until Gupta gets a clear idea of what bothers his buddy there’s little he can do about it,” says a source close to both the Sanjays.

But getting rid of Vivek is Gupta’s way of making peace. Will Sanju accept this offering?

Watch this space for more.

Sanjay Gupta replaces Vivek Oberoi to please Sanjay Dutt
http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/1961_sanjay-gupta-replaces-vivek-oberoi-to-please-sanjay-dutt.html

Sanjay Gupta and Sanjay Dutt were friends and partners in White Feather Films production. However now there are rumours that the two former friends are no longer on good terms and several reasons have been put forth for the rift in their friendship. However now according to sources, Sanjay Gupta is trying his best to appease buddy Sanjay Dutt. Gupta has even replaced actor Vivek Oberoi in his films as Sanju baba is not too fond of Vivek.

According to sources, Sanjay Dutt was not very happy when he found out that Gupta was casting Vivek Oberoi in his film. Dutt is not fond of Vivek as he felt that the latter tried to hit on his girlfriend Maanyata. Dutt was also irritated that Gupta has been going around town saying “he would make another Sanjay Dutt of Vivek Oberoi.” Gupta now wants to prove his loyalty towards Dutt and so he has decided to drop Vivek Oberoi from his future projects. Gupta had considered Vivek for the sequel to Kaante, which is ‘Khotte Sikkey’. Now Vivek has been replaced with Kunal Kapoor. Sanjay Gupta stated “It’s too early to talk about Khotte Sikkey. But yes, Kunal Kapoor is being seriously considered.”

According to some sources, problems began when Dutt found out that Gupta was not paying his White Feather Film employees on time. This is what triggered the rift in their friendship. Sanjay Dutt was not at all happy when he found out that the finances of White Feather films were not in order. Sanjay soon decided to part with Gupta in the partnership of White Feather Films. Sources also claim that Maanyata, Sanju’s girl was not too happy with their friendship when she began managing Dutt’s home, his finances and life. It has been reported that she often felt that Gupta was taking undue advantage of Dutt.

It was recently reported that Sanjay Dutt who is holidaying with Maanyata in Goa actually went for the trip at this time as he wanted to avoid attending the premiere of Dus Kahaniyaan with Sanjay Gupta. Sanjay Dutt and Maanyata also visited the sets of Golmaal 2 while in Goa. They mingled with the cast and crew which had Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor etc. It seems like Dutt and Maanya are enjoying their time together. Dutt will resume shooting for his films when he gets back from his holiday.

Seriously, this whole numerologist phenomenon has gone far enough.

It all began with soap-queen Ekta Kapoor [Images] who started adding letters to her army of K-titled television show names, and then Bollywood followed, adding an extraneous E here and an irrelevant I there.

Last year, Himesh Reshammiya [Images] went a step further, his acting vehicle twisting even English at will, with words like Moviee and Luv.

Ekta, however, has returned to take the cake. This is a still from the next Balaji Motion Pictures production, directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

The film stars Vivek Oberoi [Images], Zayed Khan [Images] and is apparently a thriller set in Turkey.

And for its title, it changes the name of Turkey's largest city, adding an extra A to it. Presumably shot in Istanbul, the film is called Mission Istaanbul.

This idiocy really must stop.

Vivek Oberoi dances to the tunes of Pritam in a music video

Vivek Oberoi will feature in a music video for a soft drink product. The actor will be seen spining music with an empty soft drink bottle in the video.
Vivek’s cousin Anand Oberoi, who is directing the video informs, “The concept is unique. We are creating a music album, which will be edited to a commercial later.

The storyline is about how Vivek creates music in a dull party with a creative stunt. He creates music out of the soft drink bottle. Vivek is endorsing the brand and it was natural to have him in the video.”

Pritam has composed the music for the video. Oberoi further adds, “It will be a complete three- minute fun and dance sequence. We will edit it and use it as commercial.”

Vivek Oberoi was in high spirits on late Tuesday (Jan 8) evening at Pawan Hans helipad in Juhu. The actor dressed in a bright red and silver body –tight shirt, sporting long hair and an infectious smile was shooting a music video for a new brand of non-alcoholic beverage called Fresh Fizzy.

What made the shoot all the more special was the fact that Vivek was being directed by his own cousin Anand Oberoi who is an ad-man of repute. The camaraderie between the duo was there for one and all considering this was the first time that the two brothers actually came together to do something.

A visibly emotional Vivek had this to say of his experience, “I loved the concept, the look, feel and the largeness of the ad, though it was for a family-owned brand. The concept rocked. Though bhai and I are close from childhood, this is the first time we worked together. At times, I wondered whether to call him Sir or bhai in the middle of the shoot”

As for Anand, he surely feels Vivek was the perfect choice. He adds, "Vivek is the soul of any party he goes. He works hard and parties even harder. Moreover, he has a clear preference for non-alcoholic beverages. The brand fit was clearly what Vivek is in real life and hence the choice."

The shoot had Vivek humming and dancing to the track composed by music-director Pritam. The music-video, which has an anti-alcohol theme, would be later deftly edited into a 10 second commercial for the beverage brand.

9 January 2008 (Sawf News) - Vivek Oberoi is all set to promote a fizzy drink through a music video that is 'hatke' not just because Vivek plays a singing and cavorting rock star in it but also because he uses an empty bottle of the soft drink to create his music.

The three minute video, directed by Vivek's cousin Anand Oberoi, was shot at Pawan Hans (Juhu Aerodrome), Tuesday, January 8, night.

We came across this picture of Vivek Oberoi [Images], which was clicked at an event on Tuesday. And we couldn't help but wonder if the actor was going to play a Red Indian.

For some reason, his face seems to be the same colour as his T-shirt.

Vivek will be soon seen in Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul. Let's hope this is not his look for that film.

Brothers in arms, Anand and Vivek came together for the first time in twelve years. Time saw Vivek growing to be an actor, his cousin Anand is an ad-man of repute. With his company, OMM specializing in creating strong nationalistic images of family-owned brands, Anand has carved a niche for himself in the circuit.

Vivek was cheerful and bubbly humming the Pritam-crafted number at the venue, keeping in spirit with the fizzy drink that he endorsed. "I loved the concept, the look, feel and the largeness of the ad, though it was for a family-owned brand. The concept rocked. Though bhai and I are close from childhood, this is the first time we worked together. Anand Oberoi was clear Vivek was the perfect choice, and not just because they were brothers. "Vivek is the soul of any party he goes. When he works he works hard and when he parties, he parties harder. And he has a clear preference for non-alcoholic beverages. The brand fit was clearly what Vivek is in real life and hence the choice."

Adds Anand, "Through the album, we want to give the message to the youth of today that one can party, have fun and have a whale of a time without drinking alcohol. Vivek's attitude goes with the brand. He is funky and new. No breaking rules. Be creative and bring the same fun in life. That's him in a nutshell."

Vivek has another point to make, "The brand represents playfulness, creativity and today's youth who want to be in control. They don't want to go against authorities and limitations but would like to have their way. I can associate with the youth who want to work hard and party harder, and at the same time, explore new possibilities. I choose my own projects and roles that I am essaying in my films. I control my life."

The album sees a lot of Oberoi junior. There is music, there are stunts, there is dance and there is the sound of bottles that create some foot-tapping fiesta entertainingly done by Vivek.

The concept goes thus. Youngsters partying find themselves in the middle of silence with the cops shutting off the loud music. Vivek enters sees everyone dejected, and with his cool attitude makes the party comes live again. He does a creative stunt with Fresh Fizzy, creates music out of the bottle, calls for the whole truck of the beverage, and gets the party to rock without the liquor quotient.

Now that is surely something to ponder about, given the wake of the New Year alcohol tragedies.

Mumbai: The new year has brought in some fizzy endorsements for actor Vivek Oberoi.

Taking stock of the lavish sets and high production values for the music video shoot – which will eventually be cut into a thirty second ad-spot for a soft drink, Vivek is clear this ad will be a one-of-its-kind ad when it finally airs.

“When you see the whole set-up with the bikes and the lights and the fact that it’s on a runway, it’s like, it’s a really grand thought. I was really excited,” he says.

Dressed in flashy party wear and sporting a spanking new hair-do, Vivek revealed the real reason behind the change of look.

“The look is for my new film Mission Istanbul. I’m playing a Turkish commando. I tried to do something different for that and created a new look,” he says, with a grin.

Nominated for his performance in Shootout at Lokhandwala, a handful of new brand endorsements, and an interesting-sounding film lined up for release, 2008 has evidently kicked off on a good note for the young actor.

Vivek Oberoi busy pumping iron for Mission Istanbul

The lean mean muscular torso with fancy six-pack abs seems to have taken our desi hunks by storm. After Shahrukh Khan's six pack, it's actor Vivek Oberoi who's busy pumping iron for Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul. But the actor is inspired by Hrithik's fab abs.

After Shahrukh Khan sparked off a six-pack revolution of sorts with his stunning avatar in last year's blockbuster hit Om Shanti Om, the lean mean muscular torso with six-pack abs seem to have taken our desi hunks by storm. There are a slew of actors itching to step into SRK's shoes. Abhishek Bachchan is all set to get into the fitness groove while Fardeen Khan claims we'll see his fitter machismo side soon. But one actor who firmly swears by the saying 'actions speak louder than words is Vivek Oberoi. Last seen in Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout At Lokhandwala, Vivek is busy pumping iron for Lakhia's forthcoming film Mission Istanbul. The actor will essay the part of a Turkish commando Rizwan and naturally, Lakhia wants his actors to fetch the much talked about lean mean look. And its Hollywood action bigwig George Agular who has been roped in to choreograph the elaborate action sequences of the film. Therefore apart from working out religiously for the last nine months, our sincere Vivek has also enrolled himself in yoga and Tai Chi classes as part of the preparation for his role.

Vivek's fitness trainer of five years, Satyajit Chaurasia tells us, " Vivek has been working extremely hard at the Barbarian gym for the last nine months. He's absolutely determined to attain those coveted six pack abs for his look Mission Istanbul. In fact yesterday, he worked out for 4 hours non-stop. Hats off to his grit and determination! He conscientiously does heavyweight muscle training for six days a week with an average session of two and half hours. But once a week, he often extends his session to four hours. His sixth-pack is already visible. He has been on a stringent diet regime- high on proteins, with a considerably reduced intake of rice, carbs and sweets. He had put on some weight due to an injury he suffered early last year, but courtesy his rigorous workout regime and diet plan he has already shed 7 kilos. He must lose another four-five kilos for that perfect lean mean physique" says Satya.

As for Vivek's inspiration, Satya says, "He is most impressed and inspired by Hrithik's body. He often raves about Hrithik's perfectly chiselled physique and wants a six-pack like his. When we started working out, he said you show me the way, and I'll follow your command" shares Satya. "And boy, he's true to his word".

Vivek Oberoi wanted Nikhil Dwivedi's role
By Subhash K. Jha
January 10, 2008 - 15:23 IST
http://www.indiafm.com/features/2008/01/10/3463/index.html[/quote]

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/1685/znikhil1ty7.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6717/znikhil2fi7.jpg

It almost didn't happen for the first debutant of 2008. Nikhil Dwivedi was almost ousted from his debut film My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves when the corporate house which director E Niwas approached to produce the film, insisted the director work with Vivek Oberoi instead of the newcomer.

When confronted with this historical trivia on the destiny of his debut Dwivedi demurs. "I wouldn’t like to name anyone. But an actor who was very hot and happening a few years ago did want to do My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves My director Niwas was very clear that the script would only work with a newcomer, and that too me. He threw all caution to the winds and decided to produce Anthony on his own along with Sahara One," divulges Diwedi who claims to be a diehard Bachchan fan.

"I remember as a child watching Mr Bachchan in Suhaag. Today it's a coincidence that my debut film gets its title from a popular song in a film featuring with Mr Bachchan. That isn't all. No one knows this. But I was actually supposed to make my debut with a small role that E Niwas had offered me in an Aftab Shivdasani-Esha Deol romance called Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan, again a song from a Bachchan flick. I love that title, and I've asked Niwas to give it to me for a future film," gushes the newcomer who claims to be finely- tuned to every detail about Hindi cinema.

Fortunately for Nikhil, he desisted from playing the bit role of Esha's fiancé in the shelved film. “What has to happen will happen," philosophizes the youngster with oodles of confidence.

Nikhil plays a bartender and a Bollywood struggler in My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves. He's all praise for his co-star Amrita Rao. "Five years have passed since she came into the industry. Even today Amrita's hunger and anxiety to excel in every shot remains unchanged. I like that. Somewhere I too want to be insecure even after 25 films." In fact, Nikhil has already got three more films in his kitty. "One is a remake of Rahul Rawail's 1978 Sunny Deol starrer Arjun which Shivum Nair is directing and Anurag Kashyap is writing."

The original film about an unemployed youth being sucked politics and corruption is no longer valid. Kashyap is re-writing the script for Nikhil Dwivedi. "Unemployment is no longer a burning issue," opines Nikhil. "Today with so many avenues of work for youngsters like call centers, I think Arjun needed a new interpretation. Besides Arjun I have two other films to be produced by K Sera Sera and Sahara One."

Nikhil Dwivedi seems to have found the most appropriate godfather in Shah Rukh Khan who apparently has taken the newcomer under his wings. Nikhil apparently hangs around Khan quite often. Surprisingly, the debutant pooh-poohs the sugar-daddy theory. "I think too much has been made of Shah Rukh's interest in my career. It isn't even a fraction of what it’s made out to be. Sure his company Red Chillies is the line producer of My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves. But that's because he believed in the project. Beyond that, Shah Rukh's interest in me and my career is, I think, reasonable. He did release the music of my film. Wouldn't he do that for any newcomer who requests him to?"

Clearly this newcomer has his act together. "I'm aware that 2007 had a large number of commendable male newcomers. Should I be happy to be coming in 2008? I don’t think so. Every film and actor have their own destiny. How I'm accepted by audiences doesn’t depend on the competition but my intrinsic merits. I’ll survive not because of competition or Shah Rukh's backing but only if audiences approve of me"

That we shall find out on Jan 11 when My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves releases.

The past year has been paying dividends for Vivek Oberoi. The star whose career had been on a downturn for a long time, finally got a hit in Shootout at Lokhandwala last year, one of few ones since Company and Saathiya in 2002; and now is planning to show off his newly built body in the actioner Mission Istanbul, which is being directed by Apurva Lakhia.

Oberoi is sporting a longer hairstyle as well as sculpting his body out for the actioner, which is being produced by Sunil Shetty's Popcorn Entertainment. It will delve into the subject of international terrorism.

Zayed Khan also costars in Mission Istanbul.

I only act in one film at a time : Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi is one such actor, who despite acting in comparatively less number of films, has already created a large fan following.

Vivek Oberoi is one such actor, who despite acting in comparatively less number of films, has already created a large fan following. Films apart, Vivek Oberoi is endorsing a soft drink ‘Fresh Freezee’ where the actor will be exhorting the youth to shun alcohol. This promotional is being brought in the form of a music album by Vivek’s cousin and ad filmmaker Anand Oberoi. Recently, we caught up with the actor to know about this ad as well as his future plans. Here are the excerpts.

Q: What has actually inspired you to work for this particular album?
A: Actually, this is not just an album, but a terrific concept to promote a cola. The product is an alcohol free apple juice and the message that I am trying to convey through this album to the youth is that we can make our lives fun filled even without consuming alcohol. Initially, this was just a simple a advertisement, but Pritam has composed such wonderful music for the promotional that we have decided to launch it as a music album. There are two reasons for participating in this ad-cum-music album. First Anand, and second the unique concept of the entire show that is very different from the traditional ads.

Q: Tell us something about your cousin Anand.
A: Anand is my cousin with whom I have lived in the same house. Being a part of a joint family, we understand each other very well and since we grew up together we are good friends. He is running an ad company for the last 12 years and is a very successful ad filmmaker. This is the first time we are working together and the experience has been great since he is not only my cousin, but also my director here.

Q: Is there any plans that he will direct you in a feature film after this album?
A: It would be too early to say anything on this. First, let this album be a hit and then we will consider working together in a feature film.

Q: You are looking very good …
A: This look is for my new film ‘Mission Istanbul’ and this is my second film with Apurva. Here I am playing the role of a Turkish commando and my name is Rizwan.

Q: We have heard that you are learning Tai Chi for this film and at the same time your 6 pack abs too is the talk of the town…
A: (Laughing) Oh God! Look the main attraction of this film is neither Tai Chi nor my 6 pack abs, but my performance. I have a terrific role in this film. This is a beautiful film and I consider myself fortunate to be able to act in another good film. However, I cannot tell much about the film at this stage for I fear that while talking much, I may reveal some secret packages included in this movie. Nevertheless, I am very excited about this film.

Q: How much has this film incorporated scenes from Mithun Chakraboty’s ‘Commando’?
A: (Laughingly) Are you a Bengali? I believe that only a Bengali (read Mithun fan) can ask such a question. Anyways, I am not performing the role of any such commando, but the commando in this film is a very likeable person and the centre of attraction for one and all in the film. Like a ghost, this character sometimes disappears from the scene and then suddenly is before all. This character is larger than life, something that you may have read in the books as a child.

Q: Alongside acting, you have always taken great pains to make your look appear perfect. Whether it is Chandu in ‘Company’ or Maya Dolas in ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ it has been the same. What is your preparation for Rizwan in ‘Mission Istanbul’?
A: First of all I must thank you. While portraying Maya Dolas, I had done a lot of research and on the basis of whatever I had gathered, I tried to make the role more powerful. However, Apurva has taken the entire responsibility for my look in this film. He has argued with me that since we are doing two films back-to-back, I should look completely different from Maya Dolas in this film. This is the sole reason why my looks as well as my performance have undergone a transformation in this film. Rizwan is not an urban gangster like Maya. On the contrary, he is much disciplined and has a mission. There are many who have told me that as a commando I should be wearing a uniform and short hair. However, I haven’t done this for there is a twist in this film which you shall see when it hits the screen.

Q: What is the reason that after accepting you in ‘Masti’, people have not liked you in comedies like ‘Pyare Mohan’ and ‘Fool and Final’? Would you like to do another film like ‘Masti’?
A: Definitely. In fact I am going through some comedy stories right now. Let’s see if they materialize.

Q: Is it true that you are acting in the remake of the Tamil film ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ and Anubhav SInha’s untitled film?
A: Look, I only act in one film at a time. Currently, I am listening to many stories and if I like any of them, I may agree to act in films based on those
stories. Presently, I am busy with ‘Mission Istanbul’ and my entire concentration is on this film. Once this film is over, I will take a break and then start working on a new project. This is my style of working.

Dir: Liz Mermin, UK/US 2007. 99mins.
Fact proves racier than fiction in Shot In Bombay, Liz Mermin's documentary on the filming of a Bollywood action movie based on true events. The film in question is Shootout At Lokhandwala, director Apoorva Lakhia's 2007 thriller inspired by a real-life Mumbai gun battle between police and criminals in 1991.

Mermin also sketches in the complex facts behind the case, as well as the legal troubles of Lakhia's star Sanjay Dutt, on trial since 1993 on charges of possessing firearms, Mermin's lively film captures both the excitement and the mundanity of a relatively unfamiliar area of Bollywood, suggesting that Indian mainstream film has much more in common with the American action-pic industry than is often realised.

Shot In Bombay, part-financed by the BBC's documentary strand Storyville, which will show an abridged version on an as yet announced date, opens theatrically in the UK on 18th January. It's initial two week run on a single screen at the ICA in London will be supplemented by a limited roll-out across the UK supplemented by $10,000 of Film Council P&A funding. Unlikely to break out of a specialist independent/art-house circuit, it is likely to appeal both to students of Bollywood and to lovers of films about film. Beyond this niche, and no doubt a healthy festival life, Shot In Bombay is likely to be most at home in the TV slots that await it.

Mermin follows Lakhia's thriller from start of production to its successful release, and much of her film covers the faintly farcical circumstances of production, which in many ways seem to be simply the normal headaches encountered on any large shoot. Shootout At Lokhandwala has much riding on it, notably for its director, desperately in need of a hit, and for personable young actor Vivek Oberoi, whose flagging matinee-idol status stands to receive a boost from his featured bad-guy role. Meanwhile, star Sanjay Dutt is only intermittently on set because of his long-running trial in a case that theoretically links him to the so-called 'Bombay Blast', a series of bombings in Mumbai in 1993.

Mermin's film zigzags between the shooting of Lakhia's film and an exposition of its complex back story, involving figures suich as notorious elusive mobster Dawood Ibrahim (himself portrayed as a character in Shootout) and veteran policeman A.A. Khan (the original for Dutt's character), who headed the Anti-Terrorist Squad involved in the shootout. Khan, who also has a cameo role in Shooutout, proves one of the most engaging presences in Mermin's film: an authoritarian popular hero who prides himself on being considered 'Mumbai's Dirty Harry', and who favours an alarmingly no-nonsense, shoot-first attitude to policing.

During production at Mumbai's Film City and elsewhere, it's business as usual, much as on any action movie: expensive sets being built, fight sequences rehearsed, and body doubles standing in for the stars (Shooutout's other leading name, Amitabh Bachchan, is barely glimpsed). Meanwhile, director Lakhia's bullish tenacity - and enthusiastic catch-phrase "Mind-blowing!"- help keep the shoot on track.

Vigorously edited and energetically shot, Mermin's film gradually runs out of steam, with too much repetitive on-set footage simply reiterating the message that film-making is a crazy business, in Mumbai or elsewhere. The shooting of Shootout never itself comprises a strong enough narrative thread to sustain the film, the on-set action eventually detracting from the more interesting behind-the-scenes stories, notably, the beleaguered latter career of Sanjay Dutt (who has managed to make over 50 films since his trial began in 1993).

And Mermin never quite manages satisfactorily to sketch out the (admittedly tangled) connections between Dutt, the Mumbai bombings, Dawood Ibrahim and A.A. Khan. What does emerge forcefully, however, is the considerable gap between real-life events and the bravura sensationalism in which director Apoorva Lakhia depicts them. Intertitles fill us on background events, sometimes to wrily humorous effect, as Dutt's legal troubles go on, and on, and on.

Was Vivek Oberoi keen to do My Name is Anthony Gonsalves
http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/2077_was-vivek-oberoi-keen-to-do-my-name-is-anthony-gonsalves.html

Nikhil Diwvedi had apparently been almost ousted from his debut film "My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves" when a corporate house that director E. Niwas approached to produce the film insisted on signing Viveik Oberoi.

When confronted, Nikhil told IANS: "I wouldn't like to name anyone, but an actor who was very hot and happening a few years ago did want to do 'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves'.

"Director Niwas was very clear that the script would only work with a newcomer, and that too me. He threw all caution to the winds and decided to produce the film on his own along with Sahara One."

Nikhil claims to be a diehard Amitabh Bachchan fan.

"I remember as a child watching Mr. Bachchan in 'Suhaag'. Today it's a coincidence that my debut film gets its title from a popular song in a film featuring Mr. Bachchan.

"That isn't all. No one knows this. But I was actually supposed to make my debut with a small role that Niwas had offered me in an Aftab Shivdasani-Esha Deol romance called 'Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan', again a song from a Bachchan flick. I love that title, and I've asked Niwas to give it to me for a future film," gushed the newcomer who claims to be finely tuned to every detail about Hindi cinema.

Fortunately, for Nikhil, he desisted from playing the bit role of Esha's fiancé in the shelved film.

"What has to happen will happen," philosophised the youngster.

Nikhil, who plays a bartender and a Bollywood struggler in "My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves", is all praise for his co-star Amrita Rao.

"Five years have passed since she came into the industry. Even today, Amrita's hunger and anxiety to excel in every shot remains unchanged. I like that. Somewhere I too want to be insecure even after 25 films."

In fact, Nikhil has already got three more films in his kitty.

"One is a remake of Rahul Rawail's 1978 Sunny Deol starrer 'Arjun', which Shivam Nair is directing and Anurag Kashyap is writing."

The original film about an unemployed youth being sucked into politics and corruption is no longer valid. Hence, Kashyap is rewriting the script for Nikhil.

"Unemployment is no longer a burning issue," said Nikhil. "Today, with so many avenues of work for youngsters like call centres, I think 'Arjun' needed a new interpretation. Besides, 'Arjun', I have two other films to be produced byK Sera Sera and Sahara One."

Nikhil seems to have found the most appropriate godfather in superstar Shah Rukh Khan who apparently has taken the newcomer under his wings. He apparently hangs around the superstar.

Surprisingly, the debutant pooh-poohs the sugar-daddy theory.

"I think too much has been made of Shah Rukh's interest in my career. It isn't even a fraction of what it's made out to be. Sure, his company Red Chillies is the line producer of 'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves'. But that's because he believed in the project. Beyond that Shah Rukh's interest in me and my career, I think,is reasonable and very sweet. He did release the music of my film. Wouldn't he do that for any newcomer who requests him to?"

Clearly, this newcomer has put his act together.

"I'm aware that 2007 had a large number of male newcomers. Should I be happy to be coming in 2008? I don't think so. All films and actors have their own destiny. How audiences accept me doesn't depend on the competition, but on my intrinsic merits. I'll survive not because of competition or Shah Rukh's backing, but only if audiences approve of me."

Man on a mission
17 Jan 2008, 0000 hrs IST,TUSHAR DUTT ,TNN

Apoorva Lakhia is a man on a new mission these days which keeps him on his toes. Well, the mission is actually his next film Mission Istanbul. When it comes to Uttarayan, Apoorva always makes sure to take out time to celebrate the festival in his home town, Ahmedabad.

Ask him about the major changes in the city and he says with a sense of pride, “The city has changed a lot. Roads have become broader and cleaner than before. The landscape is dotted with new malls and the city is prospering like never before. Ahmedabad is on a high and it feels good to see the progress.”

Apoorva is busy with the production of his film Mission Istanbul, an action flick. His last film Shootout at Lokhandwala, was a box-office hit. So will there be any pressure on him to prove himself again? “Filmmakers have to work under pressure, that comes with the job. But after the success of my last film, expectations have certainly gone up and Mission Istanbul is being talked about. In the film industry, you are as good as your last film,” he confesses.

The interesting thing about Mission Istanbul is that Apoorva’s close friend Abhishek Bachchan will be doing an item number in it. So what does Apoorva feel about Junior B’s dancing skills? “I think he is a fabulous dancer right from the beginning,” he says it diplomatically.
Apoorva is known for his rapport with his actors. So, does that help him as a director? “I am a guys’ guy. I think it is easier to work with people you know. One can work confidently with friends because there are no formal ties with them. I do a lot of homework before starting a film with my friends who work with me,” he grins.

His next film and Shootout at Lokhandwala have a common factor — Vivek Oberoi. Apoorva is all praise for Vivek. “Vivek is hungry to prove himself. He is a very good actor,” he points out.

And finally, what does the director feels about the present condition of the Gujarati film industry? “It is a pity that Gujarati films are not doing well. I think it is a vicious circle. Good movies are not coming up because of bad infrastructure, due to this quality of films also suffer,” he says.
So, what should be done to improve things? “The state government should take some initiative to improve the standard of the regional film industry. Other state governments are giving subsidies to regional filmmakers, I think even the Gujarat government should do something like this. They should approach Bollywood filmmakers to shoot in the state,” he says on a parting note.

Southern comfort for Vivek Oberoi

Noyon Jyoti Parasara

Vivek Oberoi was spotted at the Ayappa Temple in Sabarimala in Kerala earlier this week. While he’s been visiting the temple religiously for a decade now, this time around he’s actually been living like a monk for the last two weeks, a ritual undertaken by those who take the Sabarimala oath.

Vivek’s faith in Ayappa probably stems from his mother’s South Indian background and Vivek reportedly places utmost faith in the powers of the deity.

“For this visit, he was even walking around barefoot except during shoots. It was part of the custom followed preceding a trip to Sabrimala,” revealed his father Suresh Oberoi.

Vivek, who doesn’t drink alcohol or smoke, has now also vowed to even refuse advertisements that promote liquor or cigarette brands. “While playing a certain character I might be seen toting a gun or smoking, but as a person I won’t endorse what I don’t believe in,” he had said earlier.

But what blessing could Vivek have asked for? With a lukewarm run of late, it could either be an award for his performance in ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’ or a hit in his forthcoming ‘Mission Istanbul’.

Vivek Oberoi performs an arduous pilgrimage

Vivek Oberoi is a devout, God-fearing man who frequently performs arduous pilgrimages.

He may play a gun-toting gangster with conviction in films, but in real life Vivek Oberoi is a mellow man who believes in the power of blessings of gods and deities.

Just at the start of the New Year, Vivek made a trip to Vaishnodevi near Jammu in North India. And now, he is on a southern pilgrimage to the Ayappa Temple in Sabarimala in Kerala.

Before his visit to the temple early this week, Vivek had been living by the rituals undertaken by pilgrims to the temple. According to the rituals, a pilgrim should walk barefoot, not wear anything made of leather and shun non-vegetarian food weeks before the pilgrimage.

Vivek had reportedly been following this ascetic lifestyle before his visit to the Ayappa Temple.

The actor has been praying at the temple for over a decade now. His mother Yashodhara and father Suresh Oberoi have a strong faith in lord Ayappa.

As for Bollywood, Vivek is presently working in Apoorva Lakhia’s action thriller Mission Istanbul . He is also likely to sign more plum projects this year.

Bollywood has been an unusual ride for Vivek Oberoi, who within a brief span of his career has been through both career highs and lows. Banging the big screen with his debut flick ‘Company’ the actor has proved his mettle as an actor at the very first shot. After his alleged break-up with Aishwarya Rai, the actor has been struggling to resurrect his career. In this interview, we catch up with Vivek and know more about his future aspirations.

Excerpts from an Interview:

Of late you are busy working on the album Fresh Freezee. What inspired you to go for it?
In point of fact, this isn’t just an album, but an amazing effort to promote the youngsters to take on colas and abandon alcohol. The product concerned is a fresh apple juice that is more benefiting health wise than alcohol. We just want to spread the message.

At the outset this was yet another ad commercial. But when Pritam came up with such an excellent tune for it that we decided to make it into one entire album. And thus followed this ad-cum-music album.

Your cousin Anand Oberoi is directing the album. Tell us something about him?
Anand and I grew up together in the same house and we share a lovely bond. He is into the ad business for the past 12 years and has made a name for himself as an ace ad filmmaker. This was my first experience of working with him and it was truly amazing.

What’s the story behind your new look?
Well, this is my look for my film ‘Mission Istanbul’ which is apparently my second film with Apurva. I play this character called Rizwan in the film who is a Turkish commando.

Buzz is that you are learning Tai Chi for the role as well as will be seen sporting six pack abs in the film. Is it true?
(Laughs) To be honest, neither Tai Chi nor six pack abs are the core attraction of the film but my acting. I have been awarded an excellent role in the film and I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a part of a project as such.

But again I cannot divulge anymore on the film since I fear to blurt out something essential to the film.

Has the film in anyway drawn any inspiration from the Mithun Chakraborty starrer ‘Commando’?
No, not at all. It has nothing to do with Mithun Chakraborty’s film. However, the commando here is an adorable character who is the film’s eye-candy. The film revolves around him. He is one larger than life character that will be remembered for ages.

Vivek it is usually seen that you take in a lot of pains to get your look right for any film. What’s on hold for this film?
Yes, I do work on my character and look for every film and this time it’s no different either. However, this time around Apurva has made it sure that since it is my immediate next with him, the looks should be very different.

And hence, I wear this disciplined look of a commando. While many have suggested that I go for a cropped hairstyle and sport a uniform in the film, I dress very much unlikely to my role, which is the real surprise in the film.

Even though you had a success with ‘Masti’, your last two comedies didn’t work at the box-office. Are you inclined in doing more such comedies onscreen?
Definitely. I’m reading a lot of script recently and will decide on one soon.

Vivek it’s believed that you will be seen in Anubhav Sinha’s next and the remake of the Tamil film ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ as well. Is it true?
For now, I’m all engrossed with ‘Mission Istanbul’. I’m also going through a lot of scripts simultaneously. But I’m yet to decide on my next. After winding up with ‘Mission Istanbul’, I’d like to take sometime off before starting off with my next.

Vikas Sagar (Zayed Khan) is one of the most promising journalists in the country. Owais Husain (Sunil Shetty) who heads a controversial Istanbul based news channel makes him an offer to head the channel for an outrageous salary and other perks. This offer came at a better time for Vikas who was undergoing a painful divorce with his wife Anjali (Shriya Saran)

But little does he know that one decision will change his life forever. When he voices his plans to quit the channel, he is reminded by Turkish commando, Rizwan Khan (Vivek Oberoi), how others who quit had been bumped off because they knew too much.

In a place where the gun has the last laugh, will a journalist survive or will he fall prey like many others?

Hindi film in June – Selvaraghavan positive!

Even as he entered the film field, Selvaraghavan had already decided that he would start with Kollywood and move on to Bollywood and then Hollywood.

His first dream was realized long back. His next step would start in June.

Selvaraghan's current project 'Aayirathil Oruvan' came to stop over financial hassles. After talks between him and the producer, work has resumed again.

This film should be completed soon after which he will direct Vivek Oberoi in a Hindi film. Selvaraghavan is considering starting work in June. This film would be the Hindi remake of the successful Tamil film '7G Rainbow Colony' with some changes to suit the Hindi version. After this, there may be a Hindi remake of 'Pudupettai.' Talks are on.

Now, Vivek with six-pack abs
http://www.zoomtv.in/view/movies/now-vivek-with-sixpack-abs-0

Lean, mean six-pack abs appear to have taken our desi hunks by storm. After Shah Rukh Khan, it’s Vivek Oberoi busy pumping iron for Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul. Last seen in Lakhia’s Shootout At Lokhandwala, Vivek will essay the part of a Turkish commando, Rizwan. Shootout…was the first hit that came his way after the success of Company.

If Vivek’s hits-and-misses chart is observed, he is evidently better off playing negative roles. So, will Rizwan be an evil commando? Vivek smiles, “Don’t get your hopes up. It becomes difficult for a film to live up to them. All I can say is there is an element of thrill to my character.” Find out more from the actor.

When Vivek waltzed
http://www.xpress4me.com/images/08/02/06/vivek_05_5.jpg

Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi was in his elements as he swayed to the pulsating beats of music at Dubai’s Modern High School to mark the 100 day celebrations of Bosco-Caesar Dance Company (BCDC) on Tuesday evening.

A special guest at the event, Vivek was joined on stage by over 200 BCDC students including some children with special needs.

The famous choreographers Bosco and Caesar also shook a leg or two alongside Vivek as did the company’s trainers Ranju Varghese, Gulnaaz Khan, Poornima Prabhu and Augustus Pereira

For the uninitiated, Bosco and Caesar are the people behind several Bollywood chartbusters.

Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Govinda, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty and Christina Aguilera have all been choreographed by them.

Vivek steps up presence in Dubai
N ANANDHI (Contributor)

HE HAS been one of the most controversial children of Indian cinema but of late Vivek Oberoi seems to have taken a break from them. The acting powerhouse recently won an award for his performance in his film Shootout at Lokhandwala...

and is now pretty excited about his next offering at the turnstiles called Mission Istanbul. And now the actor is in the city for an assignment.

Vivek agreed yesterday that he will be flying off to the Emirates. "It's not for any film shoot," he says. "I am actually going there for a small function," he says. "I was invited to inaugurate a dance school in Dubai by Bosco-Caesar. They have been friends since school days. Plus they offered a very sweet gift in return and I could not say no," he said. When we enquired if he could share what the gift was he said, "Well they had asked how much I would charge to as come to the function and I said that the institute would have to train one deserving handicapped child free of cost. And they reciprocated with a promise that they would teach every handicapped child that came to them free of cost at the institute. I think that was really sweet of them. I was moved by their gesture," says Vivek oblivious of the gesture that he has done.

Not surprising since Vivek has always been closely associated with charity for quite some time. He was in fact one of the first celebrities who reached out to help Tsunami victims after calling up the NDTV office in New Delhi for directions. "I think it's God's will that we help people who need it. We are capable of helping others so why not help!" he says.
Talking about a dance school in Dubai, Vivek is hopeful that it would attract a lot of students. "They (Bosco-Caesar) are great teachers and people in the city are very enthusiastic. There love dance and I think many would find the school a good option to learn more," he says.

Siddharth & Vivek are college buddies?

Siddharth Kannan, who anchors Santa and Banta News Unlimited on Zoom, is a college buddy of actor Vivek Oberoi.

At a recent party Siddharth and Vivek were seen chatting and laughing away. They were chatting about their college days, about how Siddharth compered college events and Vivek walked the ramp.

There were times when the two compered shows together too. While both of them were busy chatting and pulling each other’s leg, people around at the party were trying to be a part of their `conversation.

Is Vidya too big for Vivek?
http://movies.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2765986.cms

If sources are to be believed Vidya Balan has declined to be a part of K Sera Sera's forthcoming film to be directed by debutant Tushar Hiranandani, who has been the writer of RGV's Naksha . Vidya was offered a role opposite actor Vivek oberoi.

Titled Pyar Ka Signal , this mutli-starrer will have three actors and actresses in the main lead. A source informs that Tushar had a part of his wish list ready - Vidya Balan, Vivek Oberoi and Govinda in the main lead.

"Tushar has signed Vivek who had already worked in Naksha . He confirmed Govinda and offered this film to Vidya Balan. But Vidya seems to have become very choosy about her role and co-actors. The actress loved the script or so we learrn, but politely declined the offer when she learnt that she was to be paired opposite Vivek.

Vivek Oberoi has had mixed fortunes at the box office. After a successful debut, almost all his films. He however rose from the ashes with Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout At Lokhandwala . He has been cast again in the director's next, Mission Istanbul . But Vidya, we guess, is really not impressed.

Govinda for Salman

If sources are to be believed Govinda has opted out of K Sera Sera’s next. The film also stars Vivek Oberoi in lead. The reason given was that his fees were too high for the producers.

This untitled film will mark the directorial debut of Tushar Hiranadani who wrote Naksha . This film will star three heroes and three heroines in the lead. Tushar who has already worked with Vivek during Naksha signed him for his first venture. It is believed that director Tushar has Govinda in his wish list. Vivek who also wanted Govinda to be part of the film, spoke to the Govinda and convinced him.

Then what went wrong? Our source says, “Govinda didn’t want to spoil his friendship with Salman by working with Vivek. Salman who helped him in his comeback would never like Govinda working with Vivek. However Govinda quoted a steep remuneration which he himself knew was not possible for any production house to pay him. He found the easy way out of this problem.”

It can be recalled that earlier before Govinda, Vidya Balan who was offered main lead opposite Vivek didn’t accept it. It seems Director Tushar Hiranandani is finding it tough to get stars of his wish list.

Who was it who once said, “Forgive me today, I may not feel the same tomorrow?”

Not Vivek Oberoi, for sure. The man sure believes in extending the olive branch... over and over again!
If Salman Khan rejected Vivek’s overtures in public, the beleaguered actor didn’t have to try too hard with the Bachchans.

Unlike the unrelenting Khan, who never forgave Vivek, Abhishek who finally married Aishwarya seems to have buried the hatchet with Vivek.

After Vivek visited the Bachchan house to pay his condolences on matriarch Teji Bachchan’s death, Abhishek reportedly sent him a simple ‘thank you’ SMS in return.

And thereafter, Abhishek even agreed to do a dhamaka dance number along with Vivek and Zayed Khan for Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul .

“They may not be best friends, but are pretty okay with each other,” reported Abhishek’s friend Apoorva.

'Mozhi' to be remade in Hindi
Feb 11, 2008, 19:43
http://www.tamilstar.com/news/publish/article_4899.shtml

Now a days, Tamil stars are making a mark in other languages. Many of our cinematographers are working in Telugu and Hindi films. There also seems to be a growing regard for our directors in other languages.

Bharatiraja's Hindi film 'Cinema' is to be released soon. Murugadoss is busy with the Hindi remake of 'Ghajini.' After completing 'Aayirathil Oruvan,' Selvaraghavan plans to make a film starring Vivek Oberoi. Gautham Vasudeva Menon also plans to start work soon on a Hindi film.

After completing 'Abhiyum Naanum,' Radha Mohan plans to re-make 'Mozhi' in Hindi. For the first round of talks, he went to Mumbai but the cast has not yet been decided

Govinda turns down offer for Salman

Salman Khan is surely one of the bad boys of Bollywood. But there are friends who are willing to stand by him anytime. Govinda who made his comeback because of Salman in Partner has refused to star in a movie with Vivek Oberoi as that would offend Salman. Everyone in the industry is aware that Vivek is Salman's enemy No 1 owing to Aishwarya Bachchan who in the end dumped both the stars.

Tusshar Hiranandani who has signed Vivek Oberoi for his directorial debut needed a older male lead for the movie. He first approached Anil Kapoor who turned down the offer after which he approached Govinda. The star demanded a astronomical fee for the movie which the director could not afford. Insiders say that Govinda would not have starred in the movie for any amount as he would not like to offend Salman.

Abhi to revive his relationship with Ash’s ex-flame
By: Bollywood Mantra Staff on 12th February 2008
http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/news/abhi-to-revive-his-relationship-with-ash-s-ex-flame/

Aishwarya’s relationship with Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi is still fresh in the mind of the masses but surprisingly Abhishek Bachchan is in the mood to bury the past issue. Abhishek had sent Vivek a “Thank You’ SMS when he had visited Bachchan’s bungalow to pay his condolence to the departed soul of Teji Bachchan. It seems that Abhishek is trying to normalize everything and not in the mood to dig the old issues. He is trying to create a new relationship with Vivek and Vivek too on his part is trying to revive his relationship with Abhishek which turned worsen when Abhishek got married to his ex-flame Aishwarya.

There was a time when Abhishek was not at all interested to share screen space with Vivek and turned down offers from the filmmakers if he happens to work with him. But today the scenario is something different. He not only thanked Vivek in return but also accepted to do a dance number along with him and Zayed Khan. The film is titled Mission Istanbul and will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

According to Apoorva, both Abhishek and Vivek behaved like a good professional on the set of Mission Istanbul and it seems that there is no ill feeling between each other. Vivek had also once tried to work out his relationship with Salman Khan in an award function but Salman had just rejected Vivek’s overtures. Now that Abhishek is behaving coolly with Vivek, hope Aishwarya does not mind it

KAUN BANEGI MERI HEROINE? Vivek Oberoi and (right) Bipasha Basu
No actress wants to work with Vivek Oberoi for fear of upsetting Salman Khan and the Bachchans (for obvious reasons!).

Buzz is that the only star who showed interest to act opposite him was Bipasha Basu.

But she has also backed out now! The film was K S Adhiyaman’s Hindi remake of his Tamil film Thoondil.

A birdie tells us that Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan were first approached for the role and things were fine till they heard their co-star’s name.

Considering that Sallu has a problem with Bips’ beau John Abraham, there shouldn’t be any harm in acting with his enemy, no?

In Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul, Vivek features with newcomer Shweta Bhardwaj while the hunt for a heroine opposite him in his other projects is still on. Bechara Vivek…!

Different V-Day for Vidya, Vivek
by Zoom Team
http://www.zoomtv.in/view/news/different-vday-for-vidya-vivek-0

Bollywood actors Dino Morea, Vivek Oberoi and Vidya Balan celebrated Valentine's Day with a difference. They had a candle-light dinner with cancer-ridden children, thanks to an association with the Cancer Patients Aid Association. The stars made Valentine's Day special for the children by interacting with them. Interestingly, all three stars are currently single. When we asked Vivek if he was seeing someone, he blushed and said, “I am very single and happy. I have my work to concentrate on." We wonder what the blush was about then. Vidya, of course, laughed out a 'No Comment', so we left it at that. Here’s what the stars had to say.

Why nobody wants to work with Vivek

VIVEK OBEROI is in a very precarious situation right now. It seems none of the top line actresses want to work with him and most filmmakers have become wary of signing him for fear of not finding male and female co-stars to work with him.

No actress is ready to star opposite him for the fear of upsetting Salman Khan and the Bachchans for obvious reasons. The film in question is KS Adhyaman’s Hindi remake of his Tamil film Thoondil. Bipasha Basu was the only actress who had shown some interest in working with him, since Salman Khan in any case doesn’t get along with boyfriend John Abarham. Remember the tiff they had? Probably she thought what’s wrong in working with the enemy’s enemy. But she has also walked out of the film now, for reasons best known to her. Buzz is that Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra were approached for the role first and they were fine till they got to know the name of their co-star. Priyanka has just patched up with Salman and wouldn’t want to upset him again. While Vidya Balan too feels that working with Vivek could spoil her relations with several people in the industry.

Salman Khan’s clout in the industry is so strong that no one wants to get into his bad books. Besides Salman is a good friend to most except a few people here and there (read Shahid Kapur and John Abraham). And though Salman and the Bachchans including Abhishek have maintained cordial relations, they don’t want anything to do with Vivek. Vivek’s image in the industry has also got spoiled since he has come to be known for interfering in other people’s work and life. He also has a reputation of interfering with the directors and cinematographers giving them un-called for advice on how to make films.

Incidentally it’s the only film Vivek has in hand, apart from good friend Apurva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul. Even in that film Lakhia has got a fresh actress to star opposite him. Shweta Bharadwaj is the new actress who’s making her debut with the actor.

Negative reports and bad publicity have been affecting Vivek’s career for some time now. Vivek is expecting to sign some plum projects this year but none have happened so far. He has been visiting several holy places to pray for a lift in his career and personal life.

Vivek Oberoi ignorant of being ingnored
http://www.zoomtv.in/view/news/vivek-ignorant-of-being-ignored-0

Vivek Oberoi is leaving no stone unturned to give his career better shape. Dedicating himself to his forthcoming Mission Istanbul, the actor has changed his hairdo and is also working out to get a lean, muscular physique. There still seems to be something lacking in his life though. Luck, perhaps? How else do you explain reports of actresses refusing to work with the one-time heartthrob? Close on the heels of Vidya Balan reportedly turning down a film opposite Vivek came news of Bipasha Basu refusing to work in the remake of a Tamil film opposite him. However, the Oberoi lad feigns ignorance. “I am not aware of any such film,” he says. “I do only one film at a time and, right now, it’s Mission Istanbul.” Here’s more from Vivek.
