Recently the actor was spotted at Mumbai’s popular Marine Drive, enjoying himself and indulging in jet skiing along with some of his friends. To beat the oncoming summer heat Vivek and some of his friends decided to go out into the water. Vivek was seen jet skiing and even racing his friends in his speed boat. Vivek and his friends also went further into the water and then jumped into the sea. Well the lad has certainly found a fun way to beat the heat. Several people gathered to get a peak of Vivek, but that didn’t seem to dither the young actor. In fact he waved and smiled at his fans from the nearby rocks. Vivek has been keeping a low profile of late; he has also been busy with the shooting of Shootout at Lokhandwala. But in the recent Lakme Fashion week, he made quite a fashion statement. He looked very 'IN' with a shiney tie thrown over a shirt that had fashion critics raving about him. Even designer Nandita Mahtani & film maker Karan Johar complimented Viveik on his fashion statement, which is the look of the season. Increasingly Vivek has been making a fashion statement like SRK. This is a far cry from the days when Vivek was careless with his dressing style. Just like SRK in his earlier avtar, even Vivek did not pay heed to dressing up fashionably. But right now, not only is he up in the fashion quotient, he has also been working out on his physique. Vivek's Girl 02-04-2007, 04:39 AM Vivek, Salman to attend Ash wedding Rohit Khilnani CNN-IBN Posted Sunday , April 01, 2007 at 08:35 Updated Sunday , April 01, 2007 at 15:19 http://www.ibnlive.com/news/showbiz/04_200...ding-37460.html (http://www.ibnlive.com/news/showbiz/04_2007/vivek-salman-to-attend-ash-wedding-37460.html) Mumbai: It’s being touted as Bollywood’s biggest wedding, but with just 20 days to go, the guest list for Aishwarya-Abhishek wedding still remains a mystery. Who have Abhi and Ash invited for their wedding and what are the ceremonies gong to be like? CNN-IBN went undercover and found details that sound straight out of Ripley’s Believe it or Not! A little birdie has it that Ash’s previous suitors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi have patched up and have been cordially invited for the big wedding. While Vivek has been chosen the best man for the wedding, Salman will be leading the baraat to Aishwarya’s Bandra residence. We are told that while Vivek is preparing his speech as the best man, Salman is practicing some filmy moves for a baraati jig or two. If that’ snot shocking enough, sample this. Amitabh Bachchan along with good friend Amar Singh personally visited Shah Rukh Khan’s residence to invite him for the ceremony on April 20. We also hear that SRK gifted both Bachchan and Amar singh a Tag Heuer watch as a return gift, putting an end to all the speculation about Bachchan-SRK-Amar Singh feud. There's more - Rani Mukherji, who once was a strong contender for the Bachchan bahu position, will also attend the wedding at Jalsa. Among the other surprises – director Ram Gopal Varma may not see eye to eye with him, but will come face to face with colleague Karan Johar for what could be a picture-perfect moment. The gifted actor has signed on 3 big projects and will make an announcement post the release of 'Shoot Out at Lokhandwala'. Says a source, "Vivek is extremely selective. He has already rejected 20 offers in a month, a record of sorts like SRK and Hrithik. Though he has been keeping a low profile, he has been quietly working on his project by researching on his character, something that reminds of his work from the COMPANY days." The source adds ' Just because Vivek has kept a low profile, its very amusing to find any director or starlet claiming in the media that Vivek is working with them in any random project. Vivek just laughs it off. But there seems to be a 'Chinese whisper' campaign working against him. He has just rejected 20 offers in one month and it takes guts. Apparently there seems to be a lobby working against Vivek Oberoi since he has been maintaining a low profile. When Akshay Kumar got to know about it recently, he was hopping mad at the rumors being floated around. Apparently, Akshay was not aware of the reports earlier since he was in grief over the demise of his secretary Baliji, who was like family to him. But when it was brought to his notice he told people off in no uncertain terms that he was disgusted with the whole issue of dragging Vivek into the NAMASTEY LONDON controversy. 'I m absolutely shocked that people can actually write or even go to such extent without verifying actual facts. Vivek is like a younger brother to me, he is close to my heart,' said Akshay. He adds, 'In fact I wanted Vivek to work in the film and suggested to Vipul, I can't believe why people are saying otherwise. I have great regard about Vivek and his potential. In fact sources close to Akshay confirm that Vipul Shah asked Vivek to meet him at his office to go through the script and Vivek went to meet Vipul Shah out of respect. But when Vivek heard the script, he felt that role would fit a newcomer & politely told Vipul that he would not be able to do the role. When Vivek explained to Vipul Shah about it, Vipul agreed to it. The role was eventually played by Upen Patel, Which proved to be a blessing in disguise for him since it was a great vehicle for him to act in a good set up and in spite of being a new comer; Upen was highly appreciated for his performance in the film. But now she is returning once again, this time in a film by Sanjay Gupta. We are talking about SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA, a thriller based on 'true rumors' [as the film's punch line suggests]. This Approva Lakhia directed film stars Viveik Oberoi in a pivotal role of Maya Dolas. Amrita Singh has an interesting part to play as Viveik's on-screen mother fondly called 'Aai'. In addition to SOAL, Amrita Singh would also be seen in Sanjay Gupta's other production DUS KAHANIYAAN which is expected to arrive in the month of July. Boasting of an ensemble starcast comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan and Rohit Roy, the film is definitely huge with promise of a well etched out character for each of them. In addition to the impressive teasers on air, the promotion also sees an item song that features Viveik Oberoi and Tusshar Kapoor. SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA is produced by Sanjay Gupta, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor while Apoorva Lakhia has directed the thriller. However, actor Akshay Kumar , who is the movie’s main hero, has rubbished such reports as baseless. Expressing his disgust on dragging Oberoi into a needless controversy, Akshay told reporters: “I am absolutely shocked that people can actually write or even go to such extent without verifying actual facts.” Akshay added: “Vivek is like a younger brother to me, he is close to my heart. In fact, I wanted Vivek to work in the film and suggested to Vipul, I can't believe why people are saying otherwise. But when Vivek heard the script, he felt that role would fit a newcomer and politely told Vipul that he would not be able to do the role. The role was eventually played by Upen Patel . Vivek, it appears, is keeping the second fiddle roles at bay after his rather forgettable role in Vishal Bharadwaj’s movie Omkara . Director Apoorva Lakhia had invited Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to release the audio album of Shootout At Lokhandwala and they had verbally committed to him that they would attend the music launch. Instead they did not show up, they called up to inform that they wouldn't be attending, citing time constraints due to the wedding preparations as an excuse. That's when Sanjay Gupta called on Jeetendra and Rakesh Roshan, who were also present, to do the honours and rescue them in place of the missing Bachchans. Incidentally, the Bachchans had asked for the programme schedule, which stated who would be speaking on stage, at what time. Perhaps they thought Vivek might say something to attract media attention and decided it would be best to avoid the event altogether. The Oberoi family has not been invited to the wedding for obvious reasons. The Bachchan disapproval of Vivek became all the more apparent on Karan Johar's show last Sunday. When he asked Jaya Bachchan to name a 'man on a mission', she promptly answered, "Vivek Oberoi." Just a few weeks back, a bar song was being picturized on Vivek Oberoi , Tusshar Kapoor and Rohit Roy at Kamalistan Studio in the suburban Mumbai. The song shows Vivek trying to flirt with Aarti Chabria . It was during this shoot, Tusshar and Rohit decided to pull a fast one on Vivek. And they took the director Apoorva Lakhia into confidence before playing the prank. Tusshar and Rohit told Vivek that there is a dance sequence in the song, which only three of them have to do. The steps in the sequence were apparently a bit raunchy (with pelvic thrusts et al). Sporty by nature, Vivek was all game for the sequence. He was dancing in the front. Tusshar and Rohit were behind him. Apoorva Lakhia was on the camera. Once ‘action’ was called, Vivek got into full spirit and did the raunchy jig with utmost conviction. Behind him, Tusshar and Rohit simply walked away after just a few steps. But Vivek was unstoppable. He continued with his gyrations and pelvic thrusts. It took him a few minutes to realize that he was the only one dancing. That was when he realized that his co-stars had pulled a prank on him. The entire crew had a hearty laugh at Vivek’s dance. However, Vivek took the incident in a very sporty manner. He paid obeisance during the 'first prayers' and is scheduled to return to Mumbai in the afternoon. After a hiatus, Viveik Oberoi would be seeing not one but two of his films releasing soon. This is not all as the two would literally be coming on back to back weeks. The good part though for Viveik is the fact that his films, SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA and FOOL F FINAL, belong to diverse genres and hence won't really be eating into each other's business. While SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA is a realistic action thriller, FOOL N FINAL is a pure fantasy/comedy/action show that is characteristic of a Firoz Nadiadwala film. In each of the films, Viveik has an interesting character to portray. While in SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA he plays a gangster by the name of Maya Dolas who is the master mind behind all the extortions in the city of Mumbai, in FOOL N FINAL he works along with Sunny Deol in a chase behind multi-crore worth diamonds. SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA arrives at theaters on May 25th while a week later i.e. June 01 it is time for FOOL N FINAL to finally arrive. Insiders who have seen the rushes rave about the realistic portrayal and the integrity & authenticity he has brought to his character. It has also been lately reported lately that Vivek refused to dance to the song 'Ganpat' from the film that had the name 'Aishwarya' in the lyrics. According to sources he was very dignified and tactfully told the director to give the lyrics which went like 'Bipasha, Mallika, Priyanka ya ho Aishwarya Rai' to some other actor. Eventually the gangsta influenced song, sung by the irrepressible Mika, had Tusshar mouthing the lines. According to the reports, though Vivek could have done the lines to get even with Ash, he was dignified enough to let go off the opportunity to embarrass her. Seems like Vivek Oberoi has left his past behind, and like his 'Company' days is concentrating to bring integrity to his craft in 'Shoot Out at Lokhandwala'. The film has been in news ever since its first teaser hit the small screen. Expected to arrive on May 25th, the film is a multi starrer that brings together a galaxy of star performers on a single stage. The film also sees Amrita Singh making yet another comeback on the silver screen after 'Kalyug'. In 'Shoot Out at Lokhandwala', she plays Vivek's mother who is fondly called 'Aai'. Interestingly Amrita's ex-husband Saif Ali Khan had a film to his name just lask week, TA RA RUM PUM, where he himself played a father of two children. Incidentally, his on-screen children were not as old as Vivek and were less than 10 years of age. Bade bhaiyya Salman Khan was slightly upset with bhai Arbaaz recently. Apparently, Arbaaz's friendship with Vivek Oberoi didn't go down too well with Salman who doesn't exactly love Vivek. Arbaaz and Vivek got rather friendly with each other while shooting for Firoz Nadiadwala's Fool And Final and Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Lokhandwala. According to our source, "Arbaaz and Vivek were working together for the first time and they had to shoot a couple of scenes together. Arbaaz was extremely cordial with Vivek and they both interacted often. Salman got to know about the comfort level between Arbaaz and Vivek. He was surprised because the Khan brothers are very close and Salman knows that neither Sohail nor Arbaaz would do anything to hurt his sentiments." "Arbaaz and Vivek are professional actors and they would never bring their personal issues into a professional project. In fact, if there were an issue then they wouldn't have worked together," adds our source. However, Salman was not too happy about this bonding between the two and he questioned Arbaaz about his 'friendship' with Vivek. All this while, the focus of promotion of FOOL N FINAL was either on song and dance sequences of Shahid Kapoor/Ayesha Takia or the comic track of Paresh Rawal/Johney Lever. Now a twist in the story has come with Vivek Oberoi becoming most prominent in the film's promotion. He has a song all to himself in the film, which is titled 'Ek Kalsa'. Though the lyrics of the song may not make much sense, what has worked in the song's favour is the vision of producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Ahmed Khan that has elevated 'Ek Kalsa' to a different level altogether. A tune by Himesh Reshammiya, it now boasts of superb visuals with the song's setting on the desert dunes of Dubai amongst many other outdoor locations. Bearing an up market look throughout, what also stands out in the song is Vivik's new look that takes his dude image forward with the casual dance moves suiting his personality. Firoz Nadiadwala has always been known for making 'item films' and with this latest 'item song' being choreographed on Vivek Oberoi, one only expects further elevation to film's box office prospects. The film is based on an actual incident that took place in the bustling Lokhandwala Complex, where five Dawood aides were shot dead in a police encounter in 1991. One of the criminals was the dreaded gangster, Maya Dolas, played by Vivek in the film. Here, he talks about standing out in the mega-starrer, working with the Bachchans and yes, even Aishwarya Rai. Tell me about playing Maya Dolas. Creating Maya’s character was really interesting. Shoot Out came to me at a point in life where I was working 24×7, and there were lots of movies, money and material things. But somewhere, a sense of satisfaction, a process of sinking my teeth in a role was lost. So in a way, in finding Maya I found myself. How do you see Maya? When I started researching for Maya’s role, it excited me a great deal. It brought me back to the basics. It brought me to a point when I went to interview criminals, cops, convicts and murderers. Did you meet anyone from his family? I spoke to a few people. I cannot disclose names, but yes, I met a lot of people. I even met the people who killed him. Inspector Javed Sheikh is still in the ATS; I even met Mr A A Khan and Mr Kaleem at a physiotherapy session at Nanavati Hospital. For us, 1991 is such a distant memory, but for Mr Kaleem, it’s not. He has to go to Nanavati for physiotherapy every single day, as he is still suffering from the bullet wound in his arm. Mr Shaikh told me that the film is long overdue. Let’s talk about your research… I went through several police files and there’s also documentary footage on the incident. I went through newspaper clippings, articles, pictures, books. Mr A A Khan has written a book called Surrender and it has some very interesting details. The book said that Maya was from Ratnagiri, and I went there and discovered that it’s in the Konkan and people from there don’t have much body hair. So I got that cleaned out. Most people won’t notice little things like that on screen but it worked for me to portray the character better. Isn’t your look as Maya similar to that of Chandu from Company? No, I think they are extremely different. For Chandu’s character, I remember working on the look and paying attention to little things like the colours Chandu wore. For me, they were representative of his vulnerability. Sure, he kills people, but in a weird way, there is some degree of innocence to him too. On the other hand, what was really challenging about Maya was his fearlessness. He was really dark and never justified what he did. He got high on conflict. I have tried to bring that across in the film. Does the film say that the police masterminded the Lokhandwala incident? All I will say is that I like (director) Apoorva Lakhia’s take on the film. He isn’t spoon-feeding the audience and telling them, ‘Look, this is what happened. ’ He’s presented the film in a very journalistic fashion. He’s given them all the facts, the information, the rumours and the actual footage to make what they want of it. Of course, he has taken some creative liberties, but that’s because he’s making a film at the end of the day. How confident are you about holding your own in a film packed with big names? The way I look at it, this is a film with opportunity and a great role. I played it to the best of my potential. I’ve gone back to my old ways and will be doing only one film at a time. So while doing Shoot Out, I took a complete break from everything else and really focussed on the part. I hope the audience will be able to appreciate that. Tell me, is it true that you’ve refused 25 films recently? You know, that sounds like a really large number if you take it at face value. But when you take into consideration that I haven’t signed a single film in the last one-and-a-half-year, it’s really not that big a number! Do you think it makes people perceive you as being difficult? I don’t care about people’s perceptions. I care about my own perceptions. So what films do you have after Shoot Out? None. That doesn’t worry you? Worrying is a waste of time. You were offered a small part in Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om, which you turned down. It wasn’t a small part and I was extremely honoured that Farah Khan (director) and Shah Rukh (producer) wanted me to be a part of their film, but sometimes you make certain choices and stand by them. I’ve been known to be crazy that way… making irrational choices. Ever regretted an irrational choice later? You know, when you step back and look at it, you sometimes go, ‘Damn. This was good.’ But at the time of making a choice, it seemed like the right thing to do so I went with that. Are you in Ajay Devgan’s home production? Ajay is a really dear friend and he has been there for me. We are constantly chatting about projects that he is putting together, but I’ve been taking my time to accept anything. It’s a conscious decision. I want to take one film through before taking on another one. It’s rumoured that Amitabh and Abhishek skipped the Lokhandwala launch because of you. I don’t know about that. Was it difficult working with them in Shoot Out? Firstly, we didn’t share any scenes in the film. Secondly, I had a fantastic experience working with the Bachchans. Mr Bachchan is a brilliant actor and I’ve worked with him before. Abhishek and I got along really well during the making of Yuva and I still don’t see a problem. What do you think Jaya Bachchan meant when she said you were ‘a man on a mission’ on Koffee With Karan? To be honest, I haven’t been able to understand that comment, but I’m sure she meant it as a compliment. I’m sure Jaya aunty would only wish the best for me. So what’s going on with Kim Sharma? (Laughs) What… is that the only name you have on your list? I’ve been linked to a few more ladies than just Kim! Those rumours aren’t true. We were on the same flight and I was sitting 20 rows ahead of her. I don’t even deny link-ups anymore. It’s just that sometimes it makes things awkward in relationships. Like with the Manayata (Sanjay Dutt’s gal) story? Yes. It upset me but hats off to Sanju Sir for his maturity. He called me and said, ‘Bro, it’s cool. Don’t worry about it.’ A lot of people chose to side with Salman in your fight with him because he was the bigger star. Ever regret the decision of taking him on? For the purpose of growth, you should own up to your responsibilities, not withstanding circumstances, influences or any catalysts in the event. You should own up because at the end of the day an incident happened and you did what you did. Rather than regret it, you do something about it so that it doesn’t become a regret anymore. Ramu says he won’t work with you again. What went wrong there? I have no idea. As far we’re concerned, we’re very good with each other. He’s always reached out to me every time he has seen a promo of my film. Recently, he sent me a message about my look in Shoot Out and I really appreciate that. He is one of the greatest filmmakers we have and I can’t thank him enough for the films he gave me. You were edged out of Guru because Ash and Abhi were not comfortable working with you. Let’s not talk about history. All I will say is that I saw the film and, as usual, Mani (Ratnam) Sir has made a brilliant film. Abhishek was fantastic in it. Did you expect an invite to the AbhiAsh wedding? I have no expectations and no complaints. You haven’t remained friends with your exes, Gurpreet and Ash. Is that deliberate? It’s never been my decision to cut all contact. Do you think they blame you for the break-up? I truly believe I have never given anyone a reason to blame me. How do you describe your current love life? Very colourful! (Pause.. silence.. suddenly an attendant is told to serve Papoo-Malloo thanda-garam.. aur snacks bhi poochh lena) Nandita Mahtani.. true or false? This is so funny. I know her.. I walked the ramp for her fashion show. Otherwise, I’m happy and single. I was at Prive, she was there too.. I like clubbing on weekends. I’m a thank-God-it’s-Friday sort of a guy. If I was at Prive with Nandy, I was there with X, Y and Z too. I go out with my male friends and even my sister.. still stories crop up. Guess I can’t do much about that. I get female attention, I enjoy it.. (laughs).. after all I’m on the right side of 30. How many women have there been in your life? Girls.. quite a few. Women.. not many. How many times have you been in love.. twice? Thrice actually.. Mamta was 12, I was 13.. we were in school.. then she passed away, she had leukaemia. Then there was this lady nicknamed Blue. (Pause.. attendant told to insist that Papoo-Malloo should have thanda) You know Papoo-Malloo, they’re sweethearts.. they’re going to choreograph me for some concerts abroad.. you should come. Thanks.. but no chhuti. So what about Blue? Yes, she was there..(laughs) that was a time when my life was full of colours. Guess who I want to know about next? I have no idea. Aishwarya Rai. Today it would be inappropriate of me to speak about the lady in question. She was the third woman you loved. Khaaalid.. you’re going to get me into trouble. There was no other third woman? No. Vivek's Girl 11-05-2007, 09:20 PM here is part 2 Do you feel that this interview is going strangely? Absolutely, you’re such a serious person.. you’re asking me nightmarish questions.. have you got the new Paulo Coelho? Desist, I’m in a May mood. Do you love Salman Khan or not? (Papooji.. Mallooji..just give me five more minutes..) I’ve grown up, when I look back on some of the things I did publicly, I dignify them to myself.. I’ve learnt by my mistakes. Whatever my equation may be with Salman today, I’d like to keep it on a one-to-one basis. Hmm. Okay what if you were offered a film with Abhishek Bahchan? I’d do it. Why not? We did Yuva.. and I think he was fantastic in Guru.. I couldn’t have done as much justice to the role. Weren’t you offered Madhavan’s role? Yes but that’s history. Do you feel you were kind of sidelined in Omkara.. no one talked about your performance. I was extremely fortunate to be a part of Omkara. Whether his role was author-backed or not, Saif Ali Khan was phenomenal. I liked that scene in which you played a song.. on the guitar. Yeah..that was I just called to say I love you from the bottom…of my heart. Would you do that in real life to a girl? That would be a bit cheesy, no? I’d sing her Can’t buy me love.. that would be so apt. I’ve grown up. I’ve learnt by my mistakes. Whatever my equation may be with Salman today, I’d like to keep it on a one-to-one basis. Now, I’m getting extremely serious.. you’re playing Maya Dolas in Shootout in Lokhandwala.. but wasn’t he much taller and didn’t look like you in any which way? He was 5’ 9”, I’m a little over six. His character is nowhere near the Chandu of Company. Maya Dolas was a heady cocktail. Besides the material given to me by the producer and director. I met up with police officers to understand Maya’s rise and fall from 1986 to ’91. Isn’t there the danger of glorifying him? That’s not my intention. My performance has to catch the essence of the man.. and it’s up to the audience to hate him.. or to understand why he turned out the way he did. In the posters, you’re smoking a cigarette.. after all the campaigning you did against the weed. See, at the very outset, I’d told the Cancer Patient’s Aid Association that as an actor I would have to smoke if a role called for that. And if I’m smoking it’s just for the role.. to play the part of an assassin, I don’t have to assassinate someone.. do I? How are Papoo Malloo doing? Fine.. any other questions? (Papooji Mallooji, Khalid saab is inquiring about you…hello, hello) What do you think of the image created of you by the media? There are two contradictory images — one, a guy who’s chasing girls madly and two, the puppy-eyed lost lover. Come on, there must be some consistency in my inconsistencies. Have you been eating any mithai lately? Baap re, what are you asking? Got to go…SWEET dreams. see_ya 12-05-2007, 03:20 PM Take a closer look at this !!! How cool is that? Vivek Oberoi says it is strange that he refused all the gangster roles that came his way after ‘Company’ and now five years down the line, he is most excited about playing yet another gangster role—that of Maya Dolas in ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial represents a real-life encounter. Maya Dolas Soon after he read the script, Vivek decided to do his own research about the dreaded gangster. He says, “As I learnt more and more about Maya, I wanted to know more. I went to places like Agripada and Dongri, which he frequented and spoke to people who knew him.” He adds, “I even spoken to murderers to understand their psyche. I spoke to the cops who finally killed him. Strangely, if someone commits one or two murders, it’s looked at with disgust. But if they commit 30-40 murders, they gain respect. It is very weird.” Describing Maya, Vivek says, “He was exciting. He had an air of arrogance. But he loved the boys who worked under him and he loved his mother. He was an extremely courageous man. It was a huge challenge to get that kind of fearlessness in my body language,” he says with an obvious glint in his eye. Right focus Ask him why he’s been lying low for such a long time and he’s quick to reply, “But you must know that I have always lived with my head held high! When ‘Shootout…’ came along, I wanted to sink my teeth into the role. I concentrated totally on the role. So I moved away from things, which didn’t really matter so much.” Singularly happy If he was so busy researching for the role, how come he managed to get a ‘lady killer’ image in the meanwhile? Is it the case of working hard and partying harder? “I have no idea,” Vivek says with a guffaw. “I am such a simple, laidback guy. I am actually shy. I find it difficult to react when a girl hits on me. I really feel awkward at times. Maybe women come to me because I am single and eligible. I do like women but I am single and very happy at the moment.” Vivek's Girl 14-05-2007, 08:16 AM When Vivek Oberoi visited a church and a dance bar 13th May 2007 15.49 IST By Nikhil Kumar http://www.apunkachoice.com/scoop/bollywood/20070513-0.html http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/6052/200705130nv0.gif Vivek Oberoi did extensive research for his role in Apoorva Lakhia’s forthcoming movie Shootout At Lokhandwala , in which he plays a real gangster who was gunned down in an encounter in Lokhandwala in 1992. He began his acting career with the role of a fictional gangster Chandu in Ram Gopal Varma’s Company . Since then Vivek Oberoi’s acting career has been through many rough patches. Now it comes full circle with another gangster role: that of Dawood Ibrahim’s henchman Maya Dolas. Vivek took deep interest in researching about Maya Dolas. He scoured for information on Maya in police files, he talked with criminals who had known Maya and he met the cops who trapped and shot him in Lokhandwala encounter. But the most interesting part of Vivek’s research was his visit to a church and a dance bar. Maya Dolas was a converted Christian. To understand Maya’s character, Vivek went to Mahim Church to observe young Maharastrian Christians. And the visit did him well because he noticed that the Christians there had the cross tattooed on their knuckles. Vivek also got an erasable tattoo on his thumb knuckle. On different occasion, Vivek also went to a dance bar in Dubai. He went there to observe the ambience of a dance bar and how people behave in there. Maya Dolas and his friends had spent Rs 10 lakh in a dance bar a day before the encounter in Lokhandwala. There is a sequence in the film that shows this jamboree of gangsters. crazy_83 14-05-2007, 06:03 PM http://movies.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/VivekMansion/photos/view/e377?b=17 http://movies.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/VivekMansion/photos/view/e377?b=20 http://movies.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/VivekMansion/photos/view/e377?b=19 Vivek's Girl 14-05-2007, 07:55 PM We are back to the old spelling By Our Correspondent ©2007 Bollyvista.com http://www.bollyvista.com/article/a/32/7624 Article Updated 14 May, 2007 09:56:53 PM IST http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/8791/picture76241pc7.jpg With lady luck not smiling much even after altering their names, Sonu Nigam and Vivek Oberoi have opted to revert back to the original spelling of their names. Salman Khan, who is usually spotted riding his bicycle on Bandstand for leisure, is now using it as a vehicle to go to work. The star feels that it’s like killing two birds with one stone as firstly, he makes it on time and it’s a good workout for him as well. Vivek Oberoi rides his Suzuki Boulevard M 50 to get to the shoots on time. You can often spot the superstar spinning on his bike on the busy Mumbai roads. Mumbaikars are pleasantly surprised to find Salman or Vivek parked next to them on a traffic signal quite often and yes, fans sure aren’t complaining about the long traffic signals as they are busy taking autographs or are capturing the stars using their cell phone cameras. Vivek's Girl 18-05-2007, 07:34 PM Vivek Oberoi plans to go slow and steady in Bollywood Mumbai, May 17 http://www.newkerala.com/news5.php?action=fullnews&id=30374 Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi who has remained in news more for his off-screen controversies than performances in movies since his debut five years ago says that he does not believe in assessing his career. ''I am what I am today because of the collective sum of my experiences. Highs and lows in my personal and professional life have made me what I am today,'' Vivek told UNI in an interview. When asked to rate his career so far, he said he had just begun. ''I want to do good work and concentrate on one film at a time. I am going slow as I do not believe in rat race and competition. I have not signed a single film in the last 15 months,'' Vivek said. Over the last one year, Vivek said he had concentrated only on Apoorva Lakhia's ''Shootout at Lokhandwala'' in which he plays gangster Maya Dolas. After an impressive debut in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company' as gangster Chandu, Vivek displayed his acting prowess in films like 'Sathiya' and 'Yuva'. What followed later was a relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai and Vivek calling a press conference at his home and alleging how Rai's ex-beau Salman Khan called him 40 times and threatened him. Vivek and Rai worked in a film which bombed at the box office and later she called off the relationship. But, Vivek says he has put all controversies behind and does not want to dwell in the past. ''I do not want to look back. I want to move ahead and do good work,'' he said. Speaking about his role of Mayabhai in 'Shootout...', Vivek says the character Chandu in his debut film 'Company' five years ago was in complete contrast to Mayabhai. ''Chandu was brave but a vulnerable man. But, Maya is absolutely fearless. He instils fear in others. Fear is his weapon and conflict excites him. Maya is an edgy, larger than life character,'' Vivek said. The actor said he researched on Maya Dolas for three months before beginning the shooting for the film. ''I met cops, convicts and criminals to understand the mindset of people on the wrong side of the law. I also went through police records to understand Maya's reign of terror from 1986 to 1991 in Mumbai. I met people who knew Maya. The film is not a documentary, cinematic liberties have been taken,'' he added. --- UNI Vivek's Girl 18-05-2007, 07:40 PM Vivek Still In Love With Aishwarya? http://www.indiafm.com/broadband/video/Special-Features/Vq5flz37/1/Vivek-Still-In-Love-With-Aishwarya.html Vivek's Girl 19-05-2007, 09:19 PM 'I don't have the capacity to juggle work' - Vivek Oberoi By Rohini Bhandari 19 May 2007, 10:31 AM http://www.businessofcinema.com/?file=story&id=3538 http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/849/vivek3yc2.jpg In the recent past, Vivek Oberoi has been written about less for his work and more for his link ups (which are yet to be proven) and an affair (which ended years ago). Irrespective of all that, he still manages to be in the news (for many a reason) reinforcing the fact that this actor cannot be ignored. As one begins to talk to him, one ends up realising that there is so much more to speak of than his notorious past. For Vivek, life is forward now. After the release of Shootout At Lokhandwala, wherein he portrays the character of Maya Dolas, he wants to go for a holiday, indulge into many adventurous sports before he turns 30 and work on just one film at a time. Excerpts: Is Shootout At Lokhandwala a comeback vehicle of sorts? Comeback vehicle? Had I gone anywhere? I had not gone anywhere, so I am not coming back. It's a film; it's not a comeback vehicle or a go away vehicle. Omkara was followed with Naksha, which was not noticeable enough.Exactly! This is why people do not remember it, and this is why I do not want to do any more work that people do not remember. Last year, after I wrapped up shooting Naksha and Fool and Final, I was shooting Omkara and I really enjoyed the experience so much. I felt fortunate to be a part of it. It made me make a conscious decision that I wanted to take a break from everything and do a film only if I felt really truly excited. So is this a comeback of your passion? When I was four years old, I just wanted to act, nothing else mattered. Money, fame, glory, publicity, covers, awards… nothing mattered. I wanted to go back to that state of mind where my means was my end. I don't want to act in a movie to buy an expensive car and a house. The joy was that if I act in a movie, I act in a movie. Somewhere I had lost that, so in finding Maya Dolas, I found myself as an actor again. Our industry is a fascinating place. It is a mayanagri, (pun intended!), where you tend to get carried away and sucked in by a lot of other things. It takes a little bit of tempering down to realise what you want from it. Some people want to work for money, for fame or power, some people want to work for just the work. I am one of them. So after I decided this, I took a break until Shootout At Lokhandwala came along. It took me two to three weeks to take a decision on this film, after which I swore to myself that I am not going to do another film. I am not going to be shooting this film and calling somebody on the sets and discussing another script which I am going to be shooting six months later. I, as an actor, as an individual and as a human being, don't think I have the capacity to juggle work. Which is why I haven't signed a single film, which is why I have nothing on the floors right now, which is why I am going to take a big well deserved holiday after the release of Shootout At Lokhandwala and then come back and think. You sound like you are planning your moves wisely. Does that mean your motivations to work earlier were mistakes? I acted for many different reasons. I love my mistakes because if I did not make those mistakes, I wouldn't learn, and if I didn't learn, I wouldn't have this experience that is going to help me further. I believe that God is my best friend. I have believed that since I was a kid. My belief just gets stronger with every failure, because I realise that every time I fail, he is being kind enough to teach me a lesson. He is preparing me for all that I aspire to. Every film has a certain intent. Sometimes the intent works and translates till the end, and sometimes it is lost somewhere midway. You might sign a film thinking that it is going to be ground breaking, but all you realise during the shooting is that it is head breaking! Your role in Shootout At Lokhandwala required you to do a lot of research, including meeting some murderers. Please share your experience. Yes, I went and even did side profiles with murderers to understand what gets them kicked about killing people. Even after killing people and serving time, some of them do not regret it. They think it is a matter of pride. In a very dark way, it was fascinating to meet them. There is this weird sense of draw that they have. As an actor I tend to observe, look through and understand, so when I went specifically with this intention, it was fascinating to see how some of them are really repentant, though that percentage is very small. How is Maya going to face up to so many other characters in the film? Maya had this tremendous sense of self belief, almost a sense of immortality, he was flirting with destiny all the time, playing hide and seek with destiny all the time. While signing Shootout At Lokhandwala, how much did you think of your role in Company? That the two characters may be perceived as similar ones by critics or audiences for which then you may have to work towards portraying it differently? Maya worked for me because it was a dark character. Chandu was brave, but vulnerable and emotional. What really got me kicked about Maya is that he is alluring in a dark way. He is fearless and he uses it as a weapon to leverage his power. He gets high on conflict. It's almost like if you point a gun at him…he chuckles. It is that intense trip of the character that excited me. It is so edgy…it's on the edge of being crazy, larger than life, being mad, too smart, too sharp, he is an enigma and that is what excited me about him. Company was very special because it was my first film. I have a certain sense of respect for Chandu, he is like someone I have known. After Company, I was flooded with offers to do bad boy roles. People thought I was mad to do Saathiya. The reason I did not do another gangster film for five years was because I wanted to be challenged enough to feel that the role demanded enough of me as an actor, to try and transcend that or rather do something diametrically opposite. Is that why you did romantic films?I made a conscious effort to do different genres. I did not want to be in a box and be called a romantic hero or an action hero. I wanted to be an actor. That is why I have played slapstick comic characters, dignified characters and romantic characters as well as intense characters. Do you think you have lost a lot of your female fan following? What has amazed me in my five years here is the amount of love and adulation I have received from my fans. When I have had some flops in a row and was feeling really low, people would just come up to me and give me so much love and respect for my work, for films I have done before, for films that I think did not do well, even films I did not like myself in, my fans came and said 'but I loved you in it'. Box office does not determine what a fan decides. When I started my career, the faceless fan was just a statistic but today, it's a more emotional connection. Today I really value all my fans. Fans for me are my ultimate support system I would like to thank all my fans for having really been there and stuck by me. What are your plans now? No plans. Sometimes, I have had four releases in a year, sometimes just two. At times, I have been shooting for four or five films at a time and going crazy, and at times, I have just shot one film at a time. Now I just want to look at nice scripts; finish that, then go for a holiday and chill out, see the world. I have a list of things to do before I turn 30, so I have to achieve that this year. I want to go deep sea diving off the Great Barrier Reef, I want to go shark feeding, I want to go to the Himalayas and attempt to scale Everest at least once in my lifetime, I want to get my official pilot's license. Do you have any plans to start your own production house considering that your brother Anand has his own advertising agency and your father himself is such an established actor? It is a good idea when you talk of it, but we have never had anything concrete on that front. I am a very laid back guy, I like to work and go for holidays. On a parting note, can you share how you feel when the media still questions you on what had happened so many years ago? I don't feel. I just yawn and move on. It is really boring. They should be bored by now; people who are reading about it should be bored by now too. Let's move on, life is forward. The film which has been in the works since late 1990's is to be produced by Corsan Productions, Belgium in partnership with Neelmudra Entertainment, India on a budget of $35 million. According to Asiaonline, the story of the film spans two continents and time periods and revolves around a British officer in colonial India in love with an Indian girl (Ash), and an American marine biologist struggling to save his research partner who is trapped in the wreckage of a colonial Brit merchant ship. The film, to be directed by Roland Joffé, was earlier named "The Invaders." Along with the title, the script of the film was also revised earlier this year, though the basic story line remains the same. It is likely the star cast of the film has changed too. Hollywood star Brendan Fraser and Bollywood star Viveik Oberoi were earlier part of the cast. While Brendan Fraser's participation in the project is yet to be confirmed it is likely that Viveik Oberoi will be dropped from the cast due to his past romantic association with Aishwarya who is now married to Abhishek Bachchan. Vivek's Girl 22-05-2007, 05:58 PM Vivek hates smoking but did! http://www.santabanta.com/cinema.asp?pid=14914 Everyone knows that Vivek Oberoi doesn’t like to smoke, either in personal life or on screen. But, finally director Apoorva Lakhiya has convinced Vivek to smoke on screen for their upcoming release "Shootout At Lokhandwala". Vivek, who plays the gangster Maya Dolas in the film, was initially quite apprehensive about doing smoking scenes because he hates smoking. However, he obliged Apoorva keeping in view the requirement of the script and the character, which is based on the life of a real gangster. Being an anti-smoking ambassador, Vivek was initially hesitating to do smoking scenes on screen but he has taken this chance for the role. He is actively involved with a number of NGOs and has been working for them. Everybody on the sets was aware of his anti-smoking nature and nobody has ever found him taking one cigarettes during the break. Though Vivek has done smoking scenes in this film, he does not endorse smoking, as he hates smoking. Good boy, Vivek! Vivek's Girl 22-05-2007, 06:03 PM 'Now, I want an imperfect woman' 22 May, 2007 l 0400 hrs ISTlMANDVI SHARMA/TIMES NEWS NETWORK http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/...how/2065449.cms (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/City_Supplements/Ahmedabad_Times/Now_I_want_an_imperfect_woman/articleshow/2065449.cms) Perfection is something that Vivek Oberoi wants to achieve only in his professional life. In his personal world, give him the imperfect any day! Vivek Oberoi seems to be answering questions only about his link-ups these days. May be that's why the first thing he wants you to understand is his relationship status - "I am single." And then he goes on to explain, "This whole lady-killer bit is too much. If I go by what is being reported about me, it would seem I am dating everything that walks on two legs. See, I do flirt a bit, but I am a hopeless romantic at the end of the day. I am the kind of guy who believes in a glass of wine, poetry and some music... the perfect sense of romance." So, is he waiting for the perfect woman? "No!" he smiles, "I am looking for an imperfect woman now. A perfect woman is too plastic. I want to fall in love with each and every flaw of hers. I may sound too mushy, but these are the little things that matter more to me than just external beauty." Perfect beauty... is he hinting at a certain Aishwarya Bachchan? He refuses to answer. What he would rather discuss is how he has matured. "Growth in life brings growth in love. Each experience is a different learning process and is very individual. Every relationship teaches you how to live better and love more. In fact, when someone asks me what I really want from life, I say, 'life itself!' Life is really very beautiful," he says. From personal to professional... he hasn't had too many hits in the recent past. "I was very naive when I joined the industry. I was just 23 going on 24 and the industry was too mature for me. Somewhere down the line, I lost the purity of thought that made me passionate about acting. But now, I have rediscovered it," Vivek says. And his next on-screen avatar as gangster Maya Dolas in a forthcoming film has him all excited. "I wanted to understand what makes a man kill others to enact Maya's character. I did a lot of research for this - I met police officers, people who used to work with Maya, people from other gangs and people he lived with. But I would like to warn my female fans that the character is very aggressive in parts and they should not hate me for it." No boring questions. I am only talking about the film. That's it,” said Vivek Oberoi with a determined glint in his eyes. Alright. So, all you guys who are keen on getting the latest dope on this unconventional hero's much-discussed 'personal' life you'd be disappointed. But don't worry, this dude (looking smoking-hot in the publicity cutouts of Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout at Lokhandwala) has a lot of interesting things to say about the character of dreaded criminal Maya Dolas and the film that he is hoping shall usher in a revival of what was once a budding-career with films like Company, Saathiya and Masti doing well at the Box Office. First up we ask, why the tag line Shootout At Lokhandwala - 'Based on True Rumours'? “It's important. There's Meaning to it. It's just not a line that is trying to stir or cause effect. When I was researching this character for Maya, I had the facts, the police files, all the details which are documented evidences. I met people from the underworld, people who had worked with Maya, people who were in the opposing gangs, so I got a lot of information from them. It's been sixteen years since that incident and there was a five year long career when Maya really shot to fame and power. There are several conspiracy theories. We believe there's no smoke without fire. There must be some truth in those rumours,” Vivek said. Your scruffy hard look is being compared to Company. “It's a big compliment. I shot Companyfive years ago. And 18 films later if people still remember Company and still speak highly of it, it feels damn nice. Though there's a conscious decision that I made that both the films are totally different. Chandu in Company was a really brave, vulnerable, humble but a soft emotional kind of guy. What I like about Maya is that he has no boss. He is the master of his own destiny. He doesn't believe in anything beyond himself. He plays hide and seek with death. He is not scared of anything. And that's what I love about him. He is fearless. He has not been introduced to fear. And that's what excited me about him. If someone threatens him, it excites him. If someone points a finger at him, he'll smile as it gives him an adrenaline rush. He wants to take people on.” Omkara was a big film. But everyone felt, Vivek Oberoi was wasted or sidelined. But when you see big hoardings of Oberoi heading his gang opposite to Sanjay Dutt, there's an element of dominance. “Feels really good. It's a pivotal role. What's really special is that in a film like this I have this amazing takkar with the man himself…Sanjay Dutt…who for me is the ultimate man's man,” Vivek said. Hope all those rumours about Vivek hitting on Manyata and Sanjay getting furious were all rumours. Anyway…did someone just say there's no smoke without fire…oops…let's move on… Dhanda hai par ganda hai yeh… a cult gangsta song. It's time for Ganpat-giri…Mumbai ishtyle….Ae Ganpat…chal daroo la. “I love this song (Ganpat). It's my favourite song. In fact my caller tune is that song. Mika has sung it and he is fantastically talented. I love all the songs of the film. I love Unke Nashe Mein and Mere Yaar. Ganpat has become so cool. We have this habit of saying what's up dude. Now in my group we say what's up Ganpat. It's become a colloquial term,” Vivek said. It's obvious he enjoys this song as much as all of us do. Well, a lot of male bonding seems to be happening in the film. “There was a fantastic camaraderie between everyone. We still meet regularly.” And what about the director Apoorva Lakhia? “He was the man at the helm. Our skipper. He has done an outstanding job in the film as a director. He also kept this very cool vibes on the sets. It felt like a really long boy's night out.” Amrita Singh is playing your Aai in the film. Foul mouthed Aai if we may say so. “I loved the character of Aai in the film. And Amrita Singh is brilliant. What an actress. The scenes I have with her, the chemistry she brings to those scenes is amazing. And it is such an amazing relationship. Such an amazingly strong woman. You wouldn't have watched such a strong woman in Hindi cinema in a long time.” Chota Rajan has recently said that police had killed Maya Dolas even though he had agreed to surrender. “There are many versions to the story. Like when I was researching, the cops had a certain version, there were other people who had another version, the bystanders had another version. I went through a lot of versions. We had to choose one version. You can't shoot with seven versions. You can't have seven endings in the film. At the end of the day it's a film and not a documentary. You can't make a 20 crore documentary. You have to be true to facts I agree but sometimes you have to be true to the legend. If the climax and the end are not larger than life then it won't be fun. It won't be a fulfilling experience,” Vivek said thinking hard and trying to be precisely correct as per his thought process. There are reports that Dawood Ibrahim gang had tipped off the police as Maya was close to Chota Rajan. Would you call Maya Dolas a victim of circumstances in a way? “You should see the film. A lot of your questions will be answered. It's a very gutsy film. On a human level I understand Maya, his family, his circumstances, his reasons, his background. I don't endorse what he did. I don't say what he did was right. But I understand him. I understand the human in him. I feel our film will pose an important question to the society. Are there criminals because there is crime or there is crime because there are criminals. If you kill 10, then 10 more are born. Why? Something is wrong with our society,” Vivek said animatedly. Obviously the guy works hard on his characters. And one has never doubted his gifted acting talent. Hmmm….quite absorbing so far. What are you doing next? “Nothing. I'm doing nothing. It's an important conscious decision for my career and my own respect for my passion for cinema. Once this film is done, I will go for a well deserved holiday, come back and do one film at a time.” Will we see the same Vivek Oberoi who showed a lot of promise in the beginning of his career and somewhere lost the way for whatever reasons? “Your question should be answered in the next 24 hours,” Oberoi junior said with a smile. He said he liked the interview. And we must say we liked him (in spite of the cautions at the beginning of the interview). For in spite of his quirks, he seems to be a much more focused actor, determined to live up to the promises he made. We hope he does. For having suffered so many brickbats, the fall guy deserves a good chance. Wouldn't you agree! Vivek's Girl 25-05-2007, 12:04 AM I guess I know how to act: Viviek Archita Kashyap CNN-IBN Posted Thursday , May 24, 2007 at 13:17 Updated Thursday , May 24, 2007 at 13:28 http://www.ibnlive.com/news/i-guess-i-know-how-to-act-viviek/41221-8.html http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6/viveikoberoishootout248ek1.jpg New Delhi: In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN Viviek Oberoi speaks on his new movie, Shootout at Lokhandwala. The film is based on a real life encounter that took place in the Mumbai suburb in 1991. In the movie, Vivek Oberoi plays the role of Maya Dolas - a gangster who worked for real-life underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and was killed in an encounter. The film traces the eventful day of the shootout and the controversial court case that followed. CNN-IBN: The character Maya Dolas has been making the buzz in a very big way. How difficult was it to take on the role of a real life gangster? Viviek Oberoi: It was difficult, but challenging. The challenge always makes it more interesting and exciting. I’ve been very fortunate to get a role so early in my career which is inspired from a true-life character. It’s just something fascinating a totally different ball game all together. CNN-IBN: What also fascinates me is that you’re a very gentle and kind person in real life. You come across as a gentlemanly character and then you end up playing all these gangster roles so well? Viviek Oberoi: (laughs) Guess that means I might know how to act a little then. CNN-IBN: It’s almost like your first character in Company, and now Maya Dolas. There are so many actors in that film but your character stands out. Is this something you connect very well to? Viviek Oberoi: No, I think I'm playing a gangster after 18 films and 5 years. It’s been five years since I played Chandu in Company and now I am doing Maya. I think its just an opportunity. I think its just the kind of the film that Shootout At Lokhandwala is. It's fascinating and it's interesting. CNN-IBN: Sanjay Dutt and Apoorv Lakher trusted you with the movie. What was it like working with them?” Viviek Oberoi: Sanjay Dutt has been my teen idol. I have been crazy about Sanjay Dutt. In fact when I was in Class 8, Sanjay drove all the way from Delhi to Ajmer. As he was leaving I said I have one more request, just don’t tell dad, but could you please come to the girl’s school with me? He obliged and said 'yes'. Thanks to him, I was a hero there for the next six months. CNN-IBN Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand talks to Vivek Oberoi about films, which are what he says make his world go around. Rajeev Masand: I remember you said that you always like to go well prepared to a set. For you first film Company, didn’t you spend a lot of time in trains, on make-up, your hair and your look before you landed up on the set to play Chandu? Is that something you have been consistent in? Vivek Oberoi: No, that’s one of the interesting things about me. I am consistently inconsistent. So there have been roles where I’ve been inspired by roles to go to the root of it and there have been times when I’ve felt I can just walkthrough characters. Not that I didn’t want to work hard on it but there was just nothing to work hard on. So I have tried everything. Rajeev Masand: What were the roles that did not require back preparation? Vivek Oberoi: For Saathiya, I didn’t learn any dialogues, I didn’t use make-up. I landed up on the set, read the dialogues once and just let it flow because I wanted to keep it as real as possible and I felt the character was not too far away from who I was. But I couldn’t do that for something like Shootout At Lokhandwala. For someone like Maya, I had to understand him. I took time off, went back to my old pattern of doing only one film at a time with the right amount of preparation, especially since I was portraying for the first time, a real character. Rajeev Masand: You play Maya, the gangster. So what was the preparation? I know you have been spending time with cops and people on the other side of the law. What does it entail? Vivek Oberoi: I have done a lot of interviews. I spoke to a lot of people who are in jail right now, convicts and those who have served time. What’s interesting is that a small number of them feel guilty. A lot of them brag, like ‘I’ve killed 10, I’ve killed 12.’ Rajeev Masand: Do you relate to that? Vivek Oberoi: I understand there’s a pattern to it. If you kill one person or two people, you are a murderer. If you kill 10 or 20, people are scared of you, you are a legend and people are in awe of you. That’s the difference. It’s strange and we, as a society we should look into it. We make that happen. Rajeev Masand: Are you expecting the same kind of criticism like the way Company did, for almost glorifying and sexifying violence? Vivek Oberoi: I love that word ‘sexifying’. Is that really a word? Rajeev Masand: Probably not. Vivek Oberoi: I love that you coined it. Congratulations. Can I borrow it? Rajeev Masand: Yes, you can. Vivek Oberoi: It’s actually not about glorifying violence as much as it is about showing the state of mind the person is in. Let me explain. You see kids driving on a bandstand. They are in a fast car. There are four of them flying at 150 km per hour. If you can understand what’s going on in his head at that moment, with the girl sitting next to him screaming ‘wow’, he steps on to the accelerator, he feels immortal, like he’s God, like he’s flying. He feels there is nothing between him and the road. And there’s just one instant when something comes in front of him, he crashes and it’s all over. He dies. But in the moment before that he feels he’s larger than life. So we have tried to capture that essence. Vivek's Girl 27-05-2007, 07:21 PM Rajeev Masand: So as an actor do you feel responsible for how these films can influence youngsters? Vivek Oberoi: Never as an actor, as a human being. I partition my life very clearly. Tomorrow if I want to play an actor that blows up the city, something I would never do or advise anyone to do, or I want to play a smuggler, or someone who talks down to women, I would like to play them because I’m an actor. There would be no story without the negative side. There would be no fun. But I don’t subscribe to them or would prescribe them to anyone. Rajeev Masand: With Company and Saathiya, there was a lot of potential of the next big thing but then there were a string of failures. Who do you blame for failures? Vivek Oberoi: I’d like to believe that I am a man and a man blames no one but himself. One of the perks of being a man is to be able to swallow responsibility. It’s got a high of it’s own. You stand by, you say ‘I did it, it’s all mine’. It’s very easy to blame circumstances, lobbies, and conspiracy theories. Rajeev Masand: Directors, bad scripts … Vivek Oberoi: Yes. Why? I had a say in every single one of those films when I committed to it. Rajeev Masand: So you put it down to bad judgment? Vivek Oberoi: No, I put it down to a process of growth. I’m thankful for all my failures for I have grown. Rajeev Masand: What’s the worst piece of career advice you have ever been given? Vivek Oberoi: I can’t think of it. Rajeev Masand: What’s the worst rumour you have heard about yourself? Vivek Oberoi: The worst rumour is yet to come. It is growing in creativity. Rajeev Masand: So what was the last rumour you heard about yourself? Vivek Oberoi: Something about mid-air antics. It was quite amusing. Rajeev Masand: If you were on a deserted island, what would be the three films you would take with yourself for company? Vivek Oberoi: Company, The Godfather and Roman Holiday Rajeev Masand: You could watch Company again and again? Vivek Oberoi: Yes. But not from a narcissist point of view. Ram Gopal Varma is one of favourite filmmakers and I think it’s one best. Rajeev Masand: Which recent movie you saw made you want to be in it? Vivek Oberoi: Guru. It was a fantastic film and Abhishek was brilliant in it. Rajeev Masand: Which real-life person would you like to play on-screen? Vivek Oberoi: I’m playing a very interesting real-life person right now. So it’s very exciting. Rajeev Masand: Is there a person from history you would like to play? Vivek Oberoi: There are many. Actually I would not like to play someone who was very big. I would rather bring to light a character not obscure but somewhere there. Vivek's Girl 27-05-2007, 07:24 PM Rajeev Masand: What’s the most over-rated film you have seen recently? Vivek Oberoi: Can’t think of one. Anyway, I don’t go by ratings. Rajeev Masand: When was the last time you borrowed money from someone? Vivek Oberoi: That’s something I never do as a rule. I never borrow money. I do lend it though. Rajeev Masand: When was the last time you lent money to someone and who? Did you ever get it back? Vivek Oberoi: No, when I lend money to someone I don’t look at getting it back. Rajeev Masand: So do you lend small amounts? Vivek Oberoi: No, it depends on how you feel that day. Rajeev Masand: When was the last time you had your heart broken? Vivek Oberoi: When someone scratched my bike. Rajeev Masand: Oh is that your baby? Vivek Oberoi: Oh, yes. Rajeev Masand: When was the last time you did something illegal? Vivek Oberoi: I’m not telling. It was very recent. Rajeev Masand: It could get you into trouble? Vivek Oberoi: Yes, lots. Rajeev Masand: What is the one thing you cannot live without? Vivek Oberoi: My family, I’m addicted to them. Rajeev Masand: Who’s the first person you call when you get up? Vivek Oberoi: I’m not much of a phone person so I don’t call anybody when I get up. But I talk to Duke and Ivy, my boxers, first thing in the morning. They are the greatest good morning you can get. We go for a run to the beach every morning and they look at you like you are God. The joy on their faces is unbelievable. Vivek's Girl 27-05-2007, 07:27 PM Rajeev Masand: What’s your favourite swear word? Vivek Oberoi: Can’t use it on television. Rajeev Masand: You have a few? Vivek Oberoi: Very colourful ones. Rajeev Masand: What are the films you grew up on? Vivek Oberoi: As a child I have watched different films at different times of my life. Like early on, I saw the Shammi Kapoor hits like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. Like films from the black and white era all the way to the recent ones. I even went on a diet of Mithun films at one point, which I enjoyed at that time. Movie were like milestones on my life. I grew into international cinema and trying to understand what foreign films were about. It was a whole growth. Rajeev Masand: Is there any one film that made you want to be an actor Vivek Oberoi: No, I wanted to be an actor way before. No film really changed my life as such. Rajeev Masand: Who did you grow up mimicking in the mirror? Vivek Oberoi: The funny thing is, I didn’t mimic anyone. I just like to create characters. It was very weird because from an early age I liked to create characters from people I saw in my everyday life. So I used to observe my uncles and cousins and act like them rather than movie heroes. Rajeev Masand: Was there a Bollywood actress you wanted to work with? Vivek Oberoi: Recently, I met Madhuri (Dixit), Mrs Nene. I was working at Yashraj and I saw her there and I just couldn’t speak. I have worked with stalwarts and very big actors and I have never been so tongue-tied in my life. I think I am very articulate. So I made up my mind to go and talk. Then someone knocked on my door and it was someone from her staff saying she’d like to say hello. I said I would love to and I went to her room to say hello and I was tongue-tied all over again. Rajeev Masand: Why, was it the dazzling beauty? Vivek Oberoi: That was one woman who captivated me all my childhood and my teenage years till I was a man. And no one in my generation matches her: that beauty, the dazzling smile, the expressive eyes, the performances that she ripped out one after the other. Rajeev Masand: Which films of hers did you like? Vivek Oberoi: Every single film. I have loved Beta, Raja, Tezaab, even Ram Lakhan in which she doesn’t have too much of a role but I used to go to see it just to watch her. I loved her. Vivek's Girl 27-05-2007, 07:31 PM Rajeev Masand: Was she flattered to know she had a fan there? Vivek Oberoi: Yes, she must have as I was stuttering. She was very sweet and understanding. I think she was flattered. I told her it was a dream to work with her. I’m really looking forward to her new film. You’ll find me as one of the first people at the theatre to watch it. Rajeev Masand: Did you ever think if you weren’t an actor, what you would be? Did you ever wonder where you were going or was it all planned in the direction of being an actor? Vivek Oberoi: I think it was so integrated from childhood that I think if I wouldn’t be an actor, I wouldn’t be. Rajeev Masand: What’s the most extravagant thing you have brought yourself with your own money? Vivek Oberoi: Pride. Rajeev Masand: You had that always, didn’t you? Vivek Oberoi: Sometimes it’s difficult to afford it. I think I can afford pride now. Rajeev Masand: They say ‘Vivek Oberoi’s a misunderstood fellow.’ Is that correct? Vivek Oberoi: I love that. If you are so easily understood means you are so basic. I love being layered and complicated. Rajeev Masand: Those are exciting words but how do you react to being called arrogant? Vivek Oberoi: I love that. I think that’s a compliment. The people who know me, know me. All those who don’t, don’t deserve to. Rajeev Masand: What’s the last thing you do before going to bed? Vivek Oberoi: Watch a movie. I can’t sleep without a movie. It’s like a bedtime story for me. Rajeev Masand: A good film? Vivek Oberoi: Not necessarily good, a film. I don’t know till I have seen it whether it’s good. But I need to watch a film every night. Rajeev Masand: So it is true. Films make your world go around. Vivek Oberoi: Absolutely. Rajeev Masand: Let’s hope we always see exciting films and roles from you. We hope you always keep us entertained. Thank you so much for joining us. Vivek Oberoi: Thanks so much. Vivek's Girl 28-05-2007, 07:45 AM ^ ur soo right :D Vivek's Girl 28-05-2007, 07:46 AM Mira Nair, Asha Parekh honoured at Bollywood awards in New York IANS Monday, May 28, 2007 10:22 IST http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1099538 NEW YORK: About 10,000 fans from across the United States, Canada and even the Caribbean packed the Nassau Coliseum at Long Island for the Bollywood Movie Awards 2007 where Hollywood actor Danny Glover, director Mira Nair and former actress Asha Parekh were among those honoured. Bollywood stars who performed at the Saturday night event included Vivek Oberoi, Arjun Rampal, Bipasha Basu, Urmila Matondkar, Neha Dhupia and Soha Ali Khan. Mona Singh of 'Jassi' fame was the MC. Glover, whose film credits include 'Lethal Weapon' franchise and whose performance in the title role of the film 'Mandela' earned him an Emmy nomination, was given the award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Entertainment. Nair, the maker of crossover films like 'The Namesake' and 'Monsoon Wedding', was given the Pride of India Award. Parekh, who served as the chairperson of the Indian censor board after retiring as an actress, was given Lifetime Achievement Award. Other awards included, Best film, 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Best Director, Rajkumar Hirani for 'Lage Raho...', Best Actor, Hrithik Roshan for 'Dhoom 2', Best Actress, Bipasha Basu for 'Corporate', Best Actor in Supporting Role, Vivek Oberoi for 'Omkara', Best Actress in Supporting Role, Kirron Kher for 'Rang De Basanti'. The audience that packed the Nassau Coliseum had, however, come to be entertained and they were not disappointed. Macho man Arjun Rampal had them on their feet with his chartbusters. Vivek Oberoi had the women swooning with his romantic numbers. An international touch to the event was provided by Canada-born pop star Raghav, who performed his hits 'Angel Eyes' and 'Can't Get Enough', Pakistani singer-actress Shahida Mini and Caribbean crooner Rick Ramdehal. Bollywood Group, an entertainment company headed by Kamal Dandona, organizes the annual awards ceremony. "NRIs carry and promote our culture, values and tradition in the most meaningful manner. Their love for India's culture is visible by the success of today's event," Dandona said after the event. Vivek's Girl 28-05-2007, 06:53 PM Article Updated 28 May, 2007 09:32:28 PM IST By Our Correspondent ©2007 Bollyvista.com http://www.bollyvista.com/article/a/34/7672 http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6551/picture76721uu4.jpg It has been a roller-coaster ride for Vivek Oberoi so far. Though some of his films were well-made, and he had delivered his part efficiently, mainstream success seemed to evade him. After OMKARA, things have been different for Vivek and now he is being increasingly sought after by some of the biggest banners. But the reserved actor is in no tearing hurry. Having undergone personal and professional trauma, he is bent on structuring his future meticulously. On the eve of the release of the much talked-about SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA produced by Sanjay Gupta, in which he is pitted against veteran stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty Vivek Oberoi opens up to BOLLYVISTA in an informal conversation. Here we go for a shootout with Vivek… Well, all eyes are now on SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA... There's reason to be excited since this is a role that any actor would give his right arm for. It is a one-man army against a whole gamut of celebrities. I play the negative lead opposite such formidable actors as Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arbaaz Khan et al. On my side there are somewhat nondescript actors like Tusshar Kapoor (who is also playing a negative role for the first time), Shabbir Ahluwalia, and Rohit Roy. Was it tough playing Maya Dolas? The character has different shades and it is only a fictional account of the real-life character Maya Dolas. Sanjay Gupta, who is also one of the writers of the film, and director Apoorva Lakhia have given several interesting twists to the role. In that sense, it is part fiction and part realistic. It is indeed a complex character and it has been a challenge to perform the role. Vivek's Girl 28-05-2007, 06:53 PM http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/1710/picture76722ub4.jpg Did you undertake any research while portraying the character of Maya Dolas? No. I have contributed in my own way, keeping in mind the real life character. That's also the case with Sanjay Dutt, who portrays a similar character that of Aftab Ahmed Khan, who was the then Anti-Terrorist Squad chief. Was there any kind of interference from producer Sanjay Gupta during the filming since this is one of his pet projects? In fact, he never visited the sets during the filming and he left it to director Apoorva Lakhia to give his own flavour to the subject. Only during the song picturisations, would Sanjay Gupta visit the sets, since he is adept at and very particular about the song-dance sequences. There's been a spurt in gangster movies of late. In what way do you think SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA is different from the other films of similar theme? This is an entirely different tale. Without glorifying the criminals, it is majorly their story. Sanjay Gupta has sourced various facts from First Information Reports of the police, reports of Human Rights Commission, media reports etc. This is as far as what happened outside the Swati apartment at Lokhandwala, where the criminals were holed up. But what happened inside and how the five criminals vacillated between life and death, nobody knows. This is where fiction comes into play and it is Sanjay Gupta's sharp story-telling skill that takes the audience's goat. Vivek's Girl 28-05-2007, 06:54 PM http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/4348/picture76723cr8.jpg There have been last-minute controversies centering around Maya Dolas' mother, who has filed a writ plea in the court... Sanjay Gupta's legal department will take care of that issue. I have nothing to comment on the matter. In a way, the characterisation is akin to that of Sholay, where there are just two principal characters of the Thakur and Gabbar Singh. Here too, there are two major characters - Sanjay Dutt who plays A.A. Khan and myself, who is Maya Dolas, the dreaded criminal. How would you describe SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA from your point of view? I would say it is a shocking, hypnotic look at a real-life disaster, the infamous Lokhandwala shootout of 1991. The shootout explores the personal obsessions and sacrifices of the two principal protagonists, Additional Commissioner and ATS chief A.A. Khan and Maya and the lives of people connected with them, with absorbing insight. The film promises some of the most riveting action sequences to be ever filmed. Considering the hype that SAL is carrying with it, and the critical appreciation that your last film OMKARA received, you must be flooded with numerous offers. Are you inclined to bite the bait? Not at all. I am in no hurry to exploit the situation. Money is not everything for me. There are offers from corporate biggies too, but I have preferred to be choosey. Now is the time for me to be very careful while agreeing to do any film. The role has to be meaty. What's next on the cards? There's FOOL N FINAL, which is quite contrary to the action films that I have been doing. He had no time to savor the success and applause for his critically acclaimed performance as Maya Dolas. The performance in New York was aptly titled 'Shootout in New York' For the first time he performed on stage in the Big Apple with the medley of his all films including the forthcoming "Fool And Final" which is yet to release and got a overwhelmed response from the audience. The auditorium was packed up and everybody was overjoyed to see their favorite star on stage. The songs were choreographed by the choreographer duo Pappu-Mallu and the whole dance sequence was for 15minutes. For this award ceremony designer Punit Singh designed his outfit in which Vivek was looking stunning. Shootout At Lokhandwala got the great response from everywhere. At the premier show people were gone crazy to see Vivek and cheered for him when they saw him entering the hall. Shootout got 85% opening, the highest opening all over India for this year and already created a magic through the people of India. It shows that how much popularity Vivek has in his fans and this film proves again his capacity as a matured actor. After Omkara this is his third movie where he played a gangster and proved his mettle in a realistic gangster role. Vivek's Girl 02-06-2007, 11:09 PM Vivek Oberoi excels in realistic roles!! http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/article/31533.htmlIndiaGltz [Saturday, June 02, 2007] http://image1.indiaglitz.com/hindi/news/vivek0206_1.jpg Vivek Oberoi portrayal as the dreaded gangster Maya Dolas has been critically appreciated by the critics as well as the audience. SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA took the best opening of the year so far (85%) and is already being declared as a hit in the trade circles. With the success of SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA, looks like Vivek's hard work and talent to understand the psychological traits and get into the skin of the character has paid off handsomely. Especially since he was playing the antagonist against the main protagonist Sanjay Dutt in the film. Whenever Vivek has played a realistic character, the talented actor pulls it off effortlessly, be it his debut ground breaking performance in COMPANY, or SATHIYA, YUVA, OMKARA. Though Vivek missed the deserved applause, since he had to leave for the US, post the premiere, to perform at the Bollywood Award in New York, his thematic performance 'Shootout in New York' was a big hit too… Vivek is back in town just before the release of a very special appearance in 'Fool N Final' . According to sources , Vivek considers Feroze Nadiadwala to be very close and readily obliged him when he was approached to do the special appearance in the film. Though Vivek has been offered many films, he is taking his time to sign the right film, since he wants to be very selective in doing roles he believes in. .As he had rightly said " In finding Maya, I have found myself" Well the success of SHOOTOUT IN LOKHANDWALA only proves to trust his instincts and true calling!!!!! Jha, June 5, 2007 - 12:52 IST Confirming that Apoorva Lakhia has indeed been paid Rs 1.25 crores to direct the espionage thriller Mission Istanbul for his production house Popcorn Entertainment, Suniel Shetty says, "Why not? Why is the figure so eye-popping? Apoorva Lakhia deserves it especially after Shootout At Lokhandwala." Cutting down the rumour that Lakhia hiked his fee from Rs 60 lakhs to 1.25 crores after success, Suniel says, "No, when I signed Apu we didn't discuss the price at all. I had that much faith in his abilities. And what I'm paying him is just the base price….In return I get his full commitment for the project. Apu won't just come on the sets call the shots and leave. He's full-on into Mission Istanbul. He won't direct any other film during the shooting of my film. In fact I've made him my partner. We share the profits on Mission Istanbul. …more incentive for the director. And tell me, if I want to hire a good director how can I get one without incentive? All the super-directors from Aditya Chopra to Karan Johar are working inhouse. Rakeysh Mehra has tied up with UTV. And look at how productive their team is! " This isn't just the way Suniel's company intends to work with directors, but also the stars. "Bobby Deol and Viveik Oberoi are more or less on for Mission Istanbul. The stars who work for my company will be paid their base prince. In principle they won't work in any other project until my film is over." Is this a sign of Bollywood's increasing corporatization. "Oh, absolutely. Directors are the real stars of any film. About time they got what they deserve." crazy_83 10-06-2007, 04:29 AM Vivek Oberoi is back 10 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlMADHU DAITHOTA Times News Network After going through a break-up with Ash and surviving a series of flops, Vivek Oberoi has found himself and his passion. I've done a lot of growing up in the past one and a half years... I've introspected a lot and realised that I made some wrong choices in the past. I've been influenced and distracted and made certain bad decisions , which affected my career. But now, I know the key to success - it's doing good work. If I received brickbats, it's because I deserved them. With Shootout At Lokhandwala , I've found myself... The film has brought me a lot of accolades and I'm very grateful to all my fans who stood by me when the rest of the world had written me off. I've realised people can be very forgiving even if you repeatedly disappoint them. I take full responsibility for the lull in my career and am aware that I hadn't been giving my audience what they expected of me. But my character, Maya, in Shootout... has helped me regain my lost passion and in living him, I found myself. I really enjoyed the process of coming into my own. Apurva Lakhia is a very energetic, fun guy to be with... The whole experience of working on Shootout... was like a holiday. Apurva is also a very hardworking and creative director and brings the best out of you. I did a lot of research for my role since Maya was a real life gangster who died in an encounter 16 years ago. He was a larger-than-life guy and I was really awed by him! I spent three months researching on Maya and met murderers, underworld dons and even the cops who shot him. My journey from Company to Shootout has been eventful... I've been in the industry for five years now and have done 18 films. Some of them good, some forgettable and some average . But it was with Omkara that I truly began enjoying the discipline the profession demands of you. And it was Vishal Bharadwaj who influenced me - he changed the way I had been looking at my career. With Omkara I began taking myself seriously. I started being totally devoted to my career. The rat race is only for rats and I'm not one... The industry teaches you a lot and I have to say that it's quite a mayanagari . You get distracted by things that actually shouldn't matter, but it's okay because it's human to err. I've fallen down, stood up, held my head high and moved on. Today, my career has just about begun and I've rediscovered the passion I had as a four-year-old who first went on stage. And I'd also like to say that I never believed in competition , so don't count me in for the race. I'm in complete control of my life and career now... I want to do all kinds of cinema. I also want to work for the right reasons. So in spite of the huge success of Shootout, I haven't signed a single film after that. And yes, I do believe in true love... And that's because I'm a hopeless romantic. rajeshkd 10-06-2007, 07:10 AM Viveik Oberoi was touted as one of the most talented actors to have entered Bollywood and with the back-to-back success of 'Company' and 'Saathiya', he confirmed it further. He also impressed with his performance in 'Road'. Unfortunately, he soon hit a bad patch, which had more to do with his personal life and relationships rather than any flaw in his acting. The industry and a particular section of the media were quick to pounce on him, specially after his break up with Aishwarya. In fact, there were doomsday predictions about his career being over and done with. However, Viveik concentrated on his career and even maintained a dignified silence during and after the Abhi-Ash marriage. It now seems that good times are here again for the talented actor, as within two weeks, he has silenced his detractors with the solid 18.50 crore opening week of 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' ('SOAL') and the good start of last Friday's 'Fool N Final'. While both are multistarrers, Viveik's performance has come in for special praise, more so as 'Maya Dolas' in 'Shootout At Lokhandwala', where he is pitted against the mighty Sanjay Dutt. Here is hoping that Viveik's bright patch continues. crazy_83 11-06-2007, 01:43 PM Shooting Star Viveik Oberoi gets candid on the success of Shootout At Lokhandwala, his career and Kolkata in a chat with HT City. Excerpts of an interview: Isn’t Viveik Oberoi on cloud nine after Shootout At Lokhandwala? Yes, but I expected it to do well, though not to this extent. People outside Mumbai didn’t even know what Lokhandwala is all about. Now the film has put the place on the map. It has worked all over… I went to see the film in a theatre that was reminiscent of the old era. I saw people clapping, throwing money, whistling and even crying. It was quite an amazing experience. Your rugged look (Company, Road, Omkara and now Shootout…) works magic… Do I look like a goonda? (laughs). My clean-shaven looks have worked in Saathiya, Yuva and Masti. I have been in this industry for five years and done everything — long hair, short hair, different looks. I like to get into the skin of the character and then try out looks for that. For Shootout.., it took me three months to fix what I wanted to do and how to go about it. There were small things that I tried to incorporate into my character, like the masks that people were wearing while I was buying candles in Mumbai or the crepe bandage on the hand. I have seen goondas wearing crepe bandage and learnt that it is worn on the punching arm to protect the wrist. Isn’t it a challenge to do multi-starrers? It does feel good when people appreciate your work, especially in a multi-starrer, where there is a risk of getting lost. You are satisfied that you have done a good job. Your fans keep complaining that Viveik Oberoi doesn’t do too many films… I have done 18 films in five years. It is a conscious decision to focus on one film at a time. So, Viveik Oberoi is not in the rat race… Na na!! The rat race is meant for rats! What next? Nothing. I have no films in hand now. On the one hand, you get so much of love but on the other there are expectations and you want to live up to it. After Shootout… there is a flow of scripts coming in and good filmmakers are meeting me. I am still taking my time and haven’t signed any film. I want to be sure about what I want to do. When do we see Viveik Oberoi in Kolkata? Kolkata is a place that I haven’t visited enough. People ask why the place should be special as I had an accident there. But I have only good memories of my stay in the city, right from the pretty nurses with whom I flirted at the hospital to the guys who sold me mishti. hazzy 11-06-2007, 05:01 PM ummm so long rite now i m extremely lazy.... may be i can read later on... First it was model Gurpreet Gill, then came Aishwarya Rai. Now he was recently spotted playing host to Miss Sri Lanka, Jacqueline Fernandes (Jackie), currently in India. Vivek and Jackie were spotted together on three different occasions on Saturday. The two attended a food guide launch at a hotel after which they went to a popular nightclub to hang around before attending a private party at a producer’s house. However, the moment Vivek saw a reporter at the party, he simply turned around and ran to his car and disappeared from the scene. Onlookers swear that it was the fastest escape that Vivek could have ever made! Jackie says, “Vivek and I were at the same function earlier in the day. We sat next to each other and that’s where we had a great conversation. We also went to a nightclub with friends after the event. It was sweet of Vivek to accompany me to this private party at a producer’s place that I was supposed to attend.” So why did he leave so quickly? “Maybe he had some other party to attend,” she says with a smile. When questioned about her friendship with Vivek, she merely giggles and says, “I’m sure he’s a sweet guy. Let’s see, we’ll just go with the flow.” Vivek's Girl 12-06-2007, 05:00 PM A new girl in Vivek Oberoi's life? 12th June 2007 20.03 IST By ApunKaChoice http://www.apunkachoice.com/scoop/bollywood/20070612-3.html http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9574/200706123pg8.gif Vivek Oberoi went on an impromptu date with Miss Sri Lanka last weekend in Mumbai. Miss Sri Lanka, Jacqueline Fernandes, a truly gorgeous lady, is in India. On Saturday, she attended a food guide launch at a hotel where she met Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi. Vivek and Jacqueline sat side-by-side and chatted casually throughout the event. The two got along so pretty well that after the function they went to a nightclub with their friends. The two had a blast there. But the impromptu date did not end there. Jacqueline then asked Vivek to accompany her to a private party thrown by a producer. Vivek happily went along with her to the party but left mid-way because there were reporters at the party. Jacqueline has told a Mumbai tabloid that she thinks Vivek is a “sweet guy”. Vivek had said in a television interview a couple of weeks back that he is looking for love again. May be he is about to find it. rajeshkd 14-06-2007, 01:33 AM Vivek is sleepless in New York! 12 Jun, 2007 07:58 pm ISTlINDIATIMES MOVIES When your schedule is packed, it is difficult to find time for friends and family. But there are some, who go out of their way to make sure that they don't miss out on the most important things in life. Take Vivek Oberoi for instance. The actor attended the premiere of Shootout At Lokhandwala , and had to immediately fly off to New York for a show. Even in the midst of all this, when he decided to catch a wink at his hotel, all his friends from New York decided to give him a surprise. Apparently, Vivek has studied in the US and hasn't met up with his old buddies in a long time. When the guys learnt that the actor was performing at the event, they decided to pay him a long delayed visit. Obviously, Vivek was simply delighted to see them and spent quite some time with them. With the result that he didn't catch even a wink of sleep for a whole five days! Phew, we thought only Shah Rukh could manage to go for days on end without sleep. In fact, Suresh Oberoi has booked tickets – an entire show, if rumour is to be believed - for close friends and family so that they can watch Vivek on screen for the umpteenth time. "I wanted to take my family out for the entire day, but I thought this was an ideal way to celebrate Father's Day. I am truly a proud father today," an emotional Suresh Oberoi was heard confiding in a friend. "It is laudable how Vivek has proved his point after all the media bashing and everything that went wrong. He has had his say at last. I think his portrayal of Maya Dolas is excellent. The way he has incorporated certain nuances of the gangster, right down to the handkerchief on his hand and mannerisms is amazing. Never once has he come to me for advise on how to do a role – he is a self-made man. I am truly proud of my son." We think Vivek should take a bow. He has truly gifted his father the perfect gift on Father's Day! Vivek's Girl 30-06-2007, 04:22 AM Abhishek Bachchan turns down film with Viveik Oberoi Posted on Friday, June 29, 2007 (EST) http://news.sawf.org/Bollywood/39336.aspx (Sawf News) - Apoorva Lakhia's attempts to sign up Abhishek Bachchan and Viveik Oberoi for his next film titled Mission to Istanbul have come a cropper because Abhishek will have none of it. Apoorva just cannot make a film without one of the Bachchan's being in it. So Abhishek Bachchan, a dear friend, was an automatic choice for the film that features four heroes. After two successive flops, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost (2003) and Ek Ajnabee (2005) Apoorva hit pay dirt with Shootout at Lokhandwala. He attributes the success of the film to Viveik Oberoi, whom he now considers as his lucky mascot. Consequently, Viveik too was an automatic choice for a lead role. However, Viveik and Abhishek have a history named Aishwarya. For his last film Guru Mani Ratnam wanted Viveik in the role eventually essayed by R Madhavan but failed to make any headway, despite having earlier worked with the two actors in the highly successful Yuva. Apoorva must have hoped the wounds had healed now following the Abhishek-Aiswharya wedding. We are guessing he just didn’t realize how deep the wounds were. Vivek's Girl 02-07-2007, 04:50 PM 'I am not marrying Vivek' 2 Jul, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/City_Supplements/Lucknow_Times/I_am_not_marrying_Vivek_/articleshow/2165474.cms She comes from the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka. Lately though, this gem of a beauty has been in news for her link-up with Vivek Oberoi. Jacqueline exudes oomph, confidence, sophistication and style to the hilt. This sassy model, who was born and brought up in Bahrain pursued a specialisation in media and communication in Australia and was crowned Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006. Now, rumours are rife that the Lankan beauty is dating Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi. When asked if we'll hear the wedding bells soon, Jackie (as she is fondly called) literally jumped out of her seat and said, "Marrying Vivek Oberoi? Oh God, no! At 21, I have no marriage plans. I met Vivek at an awards function two weeks ago, but it was hardly for a few minutes. The media in India loves to blow things out of proportion. I want to say this loud and clear, I'm not marrying Vivek." What she plans to do instead is make a career in the Indian glam industry. She explains, "I have anchored programmes for TV shows in Sri Lanka, but making a career in India's glamour industry is my desire. The industry is making its presence felt in the international scenario in more ways than one. Sri Lanka, in contrast, has a long way to go." Did she always want to be a part of the glamour world? "Well, not really. Otherwise I would not have opted for a degree in media and communication. However, while doing the course, I realised I was comfortable being in front of the camera and that's when I decided to step into the glamour world. Moreover , the course did help me hone my communication skills, which helped me during the pageant," she says. Apart from meeting people and making friends, Jackie is busy learning Hindi and Kathak. An entry into Bollywood looks imminent as she is already reading a few scripts. "However, I will only sign on the dotted line if I am convinced about the role," she says. As for beauty, Jackie's mantra for such a beautiful and graceful body is her respect for herself and the ability to see the bright side of life. "Always wear a cheerful smile on your face and half the world is conquered. Also, one needs to sport the right apparel, eat the right stuff and sleep for a good eight hours," she adds. That is because of the junior Bachchan’s refusal to do the film. Lakhia just cannot make a film without one of the Bachchans being in it. So Abhishek, a dear friend, was an automatic choice for the film that features four heroes. How does it work? “That’s what acting is all about, na? But also, not many know that I have been actively involved in student politics during my education days. I was heading the student union while in college, so yes, I know exactly how it all works.” So while your gangster roles work, Vivek is not too successful as the lover-boy. On screen, we mean. “Off-screen I am a hopeless romantic. I don’t believe more in anything else than love. And I am awaiting that script that tells an intense love story. Also, Saathiya , I personally believe, was a good film. And Yuva , too.” With Shootout spelling success at the box office, is Vivek breathing at last? “I was always breathing! My failures are extremely dear to me, as an actor and a human being. I wouldn’t be who I am or what I am without them. Yes, with the success of Shootout, I’ve begun a new phase of life. I’m in no hurry to sign films. I’m taking my time.” How would you describe the taste of failure? “Bitter-sweet. There is ladder we climb in our personal and professional lives. I don’t want to ever forget the lower rungs of that ladder. Failure is the root cause of success, I say.” Did success go to your head during your ‘up’ phase? “Most definitely! I was 24 years when I got adulation, success, money. Our film world is a Maya-nagri , literally speaking. There are so many people who begin to fill your head. It tends to get to you. You get lost in a maze. It was bound to happen.” But what exactly went wrong and how? “It was the case of friends who’ve been enemies, enemies who’ve posed as friends. But today I forgive myself for the mistakes I’ve made; at the same time I forgive them all. I want to move forward. There’s just not enough hatred to tie me down to my past.” During your ‘rough patch’ anything you said or did – be it even with good intentions - went against you. Upsetting? “It was difficult, very difficult, not only for me, but also for my family.” So was it worth speaking your mind out honestly considering the price you seem to have paid for it? “I’d rather be myself and say the things I feel than portray myself to be someone I am not. If being myself brings me pain and hurt, so be it. I only act on screen” People said a lot of things about you. Why no retaliation or clarification? “I am an actor, not a reactor. I have always believed in the universal law of supreme justice. There is an entity up there, who is keeping the scores. I didn’t find the need to retaliate or clarify simply because all those who thought they knew me wouldn’t believe me, and all those who didn’t know me, didn’t deserve to know anything in the first place.” So who was your ‘real friend’ who stood with you through it all? “My family. Their support and confidence in you remains unparalleled. And the best thing is that they love you as much or more at every stage – be it ‘up’ or ‘down’. It has been three long years that I went through a bad time – accidents, failures, unfair attacks in the media. But nothing changed when I came back home. Also, my fans stuck by me. And today, I know they are the most important people in my life. I’d like to thank them profusely.” Is ‘Vivek’ more cautious about what he says and does today than the ‘Viveik’ then? Mom’s responsible for all the name changes. She believed then that if I added an extra ‘i’ to my name, it’d be good for me. She now believes that I am better off without that extra ‘i’, so it’s back to ‘Vivek’. I wouldn’t say I am more cautious now, but yes. I’m wiser!” People say you don’t have many friends in the industry? “They probably aren’t my friends, so don’t know well. I do have a lot of friends. And most importantly I have a friend up there. I know I’m never alone, and whenever in a fight, He’ll always be in my corner.” We have patch-up stories doing the rounds. Is it true that you are on a patch-up spree and wish to make up with many around you? “I am willing to take responsibility for every action of mine. And I am willing to face its consequences. I may be taking the initiative to correct every wrong. I wish to clear my karma , even if it means going up to the person and saying let’s start anew. This is a new life for me, it’s a new beginning.” No ego? “Vivek has left his ego behind in his past life, along with the extra ‘i’.” < Previous|1|2| Vivek's Girl 05-07-2007, 02:44 AM Abhishek to work alongside wife Ash’s ex-flame Vivek Oberoi http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/1622_abhishek-to-work-alongside-wife-ashs-exflame-vivek-oberoi.html Abhishek Bachchan is back from his extended honeymoon with wife Aishwarya Rai and he seems to have gotten back to work. Abhishek’s recent film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom did not do well at the box-office; however he refuses to be disheartened and has already moved on. Amongst his forthcoming projects, Abhishek will soon be seen in director Apoorva Lakhia’s next film Mission Istanbul. Abhishek will be working alongside his wife Aishwarya’s ex-flame Vivek Oberoi in this film. Abhishek and Vivek were seen in Shootout at Lokhandwala; however the two did not have any scenes together in that film. But in Mission Istanbul, Abhi and Vivek will have quite a few scenes together but sources claim that both Vivek and Abhi are professionals and hence have no qualms about working together. Mission Istanbul will be produced by Suniel Shetty’s production company and will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia. It is a multi starrer and will star Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Bobby Deol, Shabbir Ahluwalia etc. The cast almost sounds similar to Lakhia’s recent hit film ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’. Sources claim that all of Lakhia’s films are known to have the Bachchan men as he considers them his lucky mascots. Recently after the success of Shootout at Lokhandwala, Lakhia also wanted to rope in Vivek who was responsible in a big way for the success of the film and hence he was a natural choice for this film too. Suniel Shetty confirms that Abhishek and Vivek will be working together and he also states that there are no problems between the two; Suniel adds “Why should they have a problem? Abhishek is a thorough professional and he has no problem with anybody. Abhishek and Vivek do have scenes together. But neither of the actors has expressed any misgivings about working together.” Mission Istanbul will have a big budget and will have international standard special effects. In fact Suniel has roped in an international special VFX company to do the special effects for the film. The film will be shot in Turkey and other actors and actresses will soon be finalized for the film. Suniel claims “The theme for Mission Istanbul requires an international vision and hence top of the line technicians from abroad will be doing the special effects. The film’s budget will be around 25-30 crore.” Vivek's Girl 05-07-2007, 02:45 AM Vivek’s got the moves After Hours Correspondent Wednesday, July 04, 2007 20:45 IST http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1108184 Taking lessons on burning up the dance floor and wooing the ladies with his sexy moves is the new Vivek Oberoi. But in all promo interviews, the man is hounded with the boringly monotonous question about a certain marriage that took place in April. Admirably, Viveik, who is enjoying appreciation for his work in this film, is cool about his past ladylove Aishwarya Bachchan. He said on Zoom TV that media reports about his good wishes to the Bachchan couple are auspicious and they should stay that way. Referring to his past link up with Aishwarya in a roundabout way, Viveik told Bombay Times, "I am single! I am looking for an imperfect woman. A perfect woman is too plastic. I want to fall in love with every flaw of my woman. I may sound mushy but these are the little things that matter more than just external beauty." Viveik Oberoi in a still from Shootout at Lokhandwala. Viveik's portrayal of Maya Dolas, the notorious gangster in Shootout At Lokhandwala is presently the talk of the town. "The character is very aggressive in parts and my female fans should not hate me for this," he laughs. On NDTV Viveik was asked if the isolation that followed his very public breakup felt like a darknight. He cheerily responded, "As far as darknights are concerned, there is no joy of the early morning...there is no joy of the dawn without the dark night." NDTV: "So is this dawn...have you reached dawn?" Viveik: "I don't know, it sure feels like a dawn." Viveik has truly moved on and looks as if a new phase of interesting work is opening up for him. Incidentally, both Big B and Abhishek are his co-stars in Shootout At Lokhandwala, one of the year's most eagerly awaited films! Viveik Oberoi as Maya Dolas and Amrita Singh as his mother in a still from Shootout at Lokhandwala. It is reported that underworld don Chhota Rajan has objected to the film on grounds that it 'distorts' the facts, says the TOI. Rajan told the TOI, "I was in Dubai when Dawood Ibrahim planned the operation as part of his campaign to cut me down to size. He had eliminated several of my boys and Maya Dolas, who was gunned down in the shootout, was one of them." However, A.A. Khan, the brave cop who led the team at the shootout, rubbishes this claim. "The operation was videographed accidentally by a team of cameramen who were by chance in the area to do a shoot with Poona Bedi (who lives in the area) and everything was recorded in public view. A public interest litigation saying that the encounter was faked, was earlier rejected by the High Court calling it 'vexatious litigation.' Maya Dolas's mother, say media reports, is also objecting to the film. With all these controversies, the film is sure to hit the bull's eye! Vivek's Girl 05-07-2007, 04:46 PM thanks u guys!!! And neither has any problem doing so. Producer Suniel Shetty says, "Why should they have a problem? Abhishek is a thorough professional. He has no problems with anybody. Yes, they do have scenes together in Mission Istanbul . And I'm sure they'll do them splendidly.” “It's very unfair to bring in personal matters to question their professionalism. The script is still being worked out. Neither Abhishek nor Vivek have expressed any misgivings about working together. There's unnecessary speculation," he adds Suniel confirms the vast cast. "We've already confirmed Bobby Deol, Vivek, Abhishek, Shabbir Ahluwalia . But, Tusshar Kapoor has problems with the combined dates required with the other actors, so the problem is now being worked out." The leading ladies are also being finalised. "They're integral to the action. I need ladies who can kick-ass as effectively as the boys," says Suniel. Mission Istanbul is being made on an international scale. "The theme requires an international vision. My director is browsing for an F-X team from the outside. It will be top-of the-line technicians from abroad. They're a step ahead not because they're more talented, but because they're more professional. The guys who do car stunts do just that. The other stunts are performed by other specialists." The film will be shot in Turkey. Adds Suniel, "We can no longer get away with sub-standard work. Today, the guys who shot Dhoom or the forthcoming Cash have brought an unparalleled expertise to our cinema.” He further says, “In both my forthcoming projects , Mission Istanbul and Raaste, which have Abhishek, Aishwarya, John, Sikandar Kher, I'm getting top-notch technicians associated with the best of Hollywood cinema. We're spending Rs 25-30 crore on Mission Istanbul . I'm ready to spend more. I trust my director Apoorva Lakhia completely. It tends to distract you from your focus,” says the 31-year-old, with a newfound enlightenment about the reel deal. Oberoi, who was in the Capital for the screening of his film Omkara at Osian’s Cinefan, claims to be going through an “unlearning” process. One wouldn’t know if a particular heroine is the raison d’etre of this cynicism, but the hero is determined to start afresh — and with a bang. Oberoi will be seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul, where he will share screen space with Abhishek Bachchan. “Bobby Deol will also be starring in the movie,” he announces. As you quiz him on Bachchan, Oberoi reminds you that they had earlier done a movie, Yuva, and are professionals. Though Oberoi chooses to be tightlipped about the storyline, he lets on that it is an action extravaganza: “It is a total masala film and I’m very excited about it. I play a crazy, wacky hero.” By doing action films, isn’t he limiting himself? “I’ll do anything that’s exciting. I’m an adrenalin junkie,” he says. He may also star in Shootout at Parliament, a film based on the December 13 attack, which will be a sequel to Lakhia’s Shootout at Lokhandwala. Oberoi is rumored to be playing Mohammad Afzal, who was sentenced to death three years ago but is still awaiting his fate after his family filed a mercy plea to the president. Ask Oberoi to confirm and he grins and says: “I’m not at a liberty to disclose anything.” What he does disclose is that he was inspired by Vishal Bhardwaj during the shooting of Omkara. “Vishal focuses only on the film at hand and he does it with passion,” says Oberoi, and adds that he has now decided to do one film at a time and doesn’t need four-five assignments to prove a point. “I want to go back to the time when I was a four-year-old. I used to participate in plays and I did it for the sheer pleasure of acting. I didn’t know anything about money or popularity then,” he says. Oberoi, who has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, now does an about-turn and claims: “I prefer arc lights to limelight.” crazy_83 27-07-2007, 05:00 PM Vivek Oberoi does not want to be a 'hero'! By Monika Rawal His versatility, a penchant for doing different roles and his aversion to being typecast as a ‘hero’ has helped him deliver some wonderful performances in films like Saathiya, Yuva, Omkara, Company and Shootout at Lokhandwala. Meet Vivek Oberoi, whose chocolate boy looks and endearing smile have gained him a huge female fan following. In a candid chat, the actor talks about Omkara, his roles, and his love for Delhi… 'I am re-inventing with each role' "I am an actor and not a hero, so please accept me doing different roles. Why do you want to typecast me as a hero?" begins Vivek on a fiery note. 'Chandu' in Company, 'Kesu Firangi' in Omkara or 'Maya Dolas' in Shootout at Lokhandwala, Vivek has played each character with elan. He's wooed his fans with his performance as a lover and husband in Saathiya and he's made audiences laugh with his comic performances in Masti and Pyare Mohan. And he is apparently enjoying each role that his giving him the opportunity to reinvent himself. "I have done varied roles in my earlier films and I always think that as an actor I should have to ability to touch people's sensibilities and let them see me in different shades to judge my acting skills. Thus, I can keep re-inventing myself as an actor and an individual." ‘Omkara was made for Oscars’ Vivek’s role as ‘Kesu Firangi’ in Omkara, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello, won critical acclaim and the actor firmly believes that the film showcased people’s emotions and sentiments in the best possible way. “A film like Omkara had the ability to alter perspectives of people. It could have very well taken us to the Oscars but I don’t know what went wrong,” he says. Quite impressed with the character of ‘Langda Tyagi’ played by co-star Saif Ali Khan, Vivek adds, “I think that was the toughest and most challenging role to play and nobody can deny that Saif did it wonderfully. It was fascinating to watch him on screen and it seemed like a character made for him.” ‘I love to be in Delhi’ With a host of stars paying frequent visits to ‘saddi Dilli’, celeb spotting in the Capital is no longer a novelty. Be it the street side food, wide and green roads, large hearted Dilliwalahs or Punjabi opulence, they seem to be in love with all city has to offer. Actor Vivek Oberoi is no exception here, and he just loves the warmth and love that Delhiites seem to emanate. “The tremendous North Indian Punjabi touch that you get to see here in Delhi cannot be seen anywhere else. While in Mumbai only a couple of people would come up to you and compliment you on your film, in Delhi you’ll find every second ‘sardaar ji’ come up, hug and say ‘Oh paaji kamala kar ditta tusi te’ (Oh man, you did a wonderful job in your film),” says the actor. “Another reason I love Delhi is for its fantastic food. I still remember when I came to Siri Fort auditorium 10 years ago, they use to sell kebabs here and they were so delicious,” he adds 'Cinema is changing at festivals' With Vishal Bhardawaj’s Omkara being selected for Osian’s Cinefan film festival, Vivek feels that cinematic sensibilities are changing. Festivals are no longer the dominion of art films. "Omkara is a critically acclaimed and a commercially well made film. So in that sense, it was a perfect package and that it has been brought to a festival like Osian’s is a matter of great pride for us. Also, you tend to feel special when a film comes to such a platform because of the respect associated with these festivals,” he asserts. Speaking on the shifting trends in the film industry, he maintains, “A lot of people today want to see off-beat films. I think the film industry is making more of docu-dramas. They pick up a true incident and then build a story around that adding some fictitious elements. People like that.” ‘I’ve already got the real awards’ It’s often said that an actor is a puppet in the director’s hand. Is Vivek also one? “For me I see it like this. The director is an artist and an actor is a paintbrush. He needs to use an actor as a tool. The easier you let yourself flow in his hands, the more beautiful the picture will be,” shares Vivek adding that as an actor “you can often surprise a director. And those are the times you can do a director proud. For me, these are the real awards.” Vivek recalls the time when director Mani Ratnam hugged him during Yuva as the actor did a scene far better than how it was written in the script. He also relates an incident on the sets of Omkara, “Vishal Bhai came up to me and threw me a challenge during the coronation scene where I was just supposed to stand and express myself without any dialogues. The gratitude and grace that I showed in those few seconds of screen space impressed him so much that he hugged me and said ‘what a shot’!” crazy_83 27-07-2007, 05:03 PM Vivek is chilling out 28 Jul 2007, 0000 hrs IST,Mandvi Sharma,TNN Happy with the success of Shootout at Lokhandwala, Vivek Oberoi is chilling out. Faced with a slew of flops, Vivek Oberoi’s career got a new lease of life with Shootout at Lokhandwala . But, I take my time to commit to something, because once I do, I give it my 100 per cent.” There has been news that Vivek may be part of another Shootout. When is it happening? “I know that Sanjay Gupta is going to make a movie called Shootout at Parliament. However, I am not supposed to talk about it much,” he says diplomatically. And, has his new-found success increased his ‘hot’ quotient? “Girls do hit on me and I take it as a compliment. But, I am a shy person. I am single and I like it that way. For the past two years, I have had some fans making crazy proposals. Their parents have written to me. They have sent me their bio-datas and their pictures. Even my mom read them and started laughing.” Does he plan to take up any of these proposals? “No,” he says emphatically, adding, “I like it this way. I don’t feel that there is anything missing in my life.” Vivek's Girl 27-07-2007, 07:45 PM Osian's Cinefan 2007: Vivek Oberoi or Superstar? July 27, 2007 Tony Tharakan http://desicritics.org/2007/07/27/001419.php Vivek Oberoi is no Shahrukh Khan, but judging by the media attention he got at the Osian's-Cinefan film festival in New Delhi, this Bollywood actor has reason to be happy. Not so the media. Reporters and cameramen, waiting patiently in the VIP Lounge Room to interview Vivek (yes, he's back to spelling his name this way) got a rude shock when the actor waltzed in an hour late and then slipped out through the back door. Apparently, he had used the stage entrance to go directly to the auditorium where his film Omkara was being screened on Wednesday night. One television reporter had been pushed in the melee and she blew her top. Even the other mediapersons were having none of it. One irate correspondent remarked that this had also happened on Day One when Manisha Koirala escaped the paparazzi. The PR team avoided a fracas by getting Vivek to meet the press in the foyer following his Omkara introduction. The poor guy was quickly surrounded by the press and over the next 20 minutes, complained frequently of "feeling claustrophobic". That's still a small price to pay for being courted by the media, right? Overheard: If a nobody like Vivek Oberoi shows such nakhras, what will we do if Amitabh Bachchan or Shahrukh turn up at Osian's-Cinefan film festival? Vivek Oberoi. And he's being trained by Suniel Shetty, Bollywood's latest fitness guru. Vivek Oberoi has apparently taken his role in Mission Istanbul very seriously, a role which requires him to have a well-toned body. Needless to say, Suniel Shetty, the newest fitness guru in town, is helping him achieve his aim. Apparently, Vivek sought help from Suniel to get his body right. When contacted Suniel confirmed the news, saying, "Vivek did contact me. He wanted to know what he could do to get fitter." Adds Suniel, "Vivek is in good shape already, all he needs to do is tone up his body and he has been at it sincerely ever since he has met me. He's been discussing details about how many calories he needs to burn, and the amount of carbs and proteins he needs to consume. He's dedicated and has been working towards a good body. He has travelled down here several times all the way from Mumbai. It's a threehour journey, and has spent a lot of time training." Was he surprised by Vivek approaching him? "No. By now I can definitely say that I am a guru when it comes to fitness and health," laughs Suniel. The shooting for Mission Istanbul will start in October this year. So Vivek has about a couple of months to make audiences sit up and notice his body. Besides the fun part, he is also using this time to get over things he has faced in the past. “Holidays are the perfect time to know who you are and what’s important to you. Otherwise you are so caught up in work that you tend to forget what life means to you. A sabbatical helps fill in the blanks,” he says. But when Vivek is not doing any of this, he is babysitting. “I have started enjoying babysitting. I am the official family babysitter. Between my cousins, there are about nine kids in the house and I am the one who baby-sits all of them. I guess emotionally and mentally, I am still seven and spiritually I am 700,” he laughs. The film (Omkara) should have been our entry to the Oscars. It represents India better than the other movie," he said during the 9th Osian's-Cinefan film festival being held in New Delhi. Vishal Bharadwaj's film narrates the story of a successful chieftain Omkara, who is turned against his wife by a trusted member of his cohort after Omkara does not make him his successor. The movie has a powerful script backed by charismatic performances by Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek. Although the film got rave reviews from critics, it failed to strike gold at the box office and was elbowed out of the Oscars race by Rakeysh Mehra's "Rang De Basanti", which was selected as India's entry for the Academy Awards. Mehra's hit movie about a group of self-absorbed youths who try to break away from a modern consumerist existence, however, was not short-listed by the Oscars jury for the Best Foreign Film category. "'Omkara' is a film that bridges the divide between commercial cinema and serious cinema," Vivek said. "It cannot be said that the film was a serious film because no serious cinema would have an item number and again 'Omkara' cannot be called a purely commercial film because it a docu-drama which is simply commercially packaged," he added. The "Shootout at Lokhandwala" star, who has acted in around 20 films, said he loved the character of Langda Tyagi from "Omkara" played by Saif Ali Khan, who received rave reviews for his villainous act in the movie. "Nobody could have played that role better than Saif. He was phenomenal," Vivek added. khushi*grl* 28-07-2007, 11:01 AM he sooooooooooooooooooooo HOT!!! crazy_83 28-07-2007, 11:47 AM Vivek Oberoi wants kids I am a very simple guy at heart and would love to have a family of little badmaash bachchas of my own someday It all happened when actor Vivek Oberoi was chatting with his fans online and he mentioned that he loves kids. It can give you the basic training you need and mostly technicians from our industry might give u a break as an assistant if you do a course. Suhas> Hi Vivek! What goes into enhancing the performance from the one that is given in the script? Vivek Oberoi> I guess an actor's biggest contribution is to bring a character to life with little nuances. A way of perceiving and presenting a role. Making it come alive. Homework and research can be very helpful at times. Sudeep12> I loved Shootout... You rock in the film as Maya . You say you love children. So when are you going to have your own children :)? Vivek Oberoi> Ha ha ha!!! I am still a big baby myself! They’re fun to play and give you a sense of immortality. Shouvikrulzz> Hi Vivek, when are you coming to Delhi? Vivek Oberoi> This month actually, round the 13 th . The buzz it that director Apurva Lakhia is finding it very difficult to get the two actors together to do his film Mission Istanbul, especially so soon after the Abhishek-Aishwarya marriage. “With Vivek acting in Apurva Lakhia’s recent release Shootout at Lokhandwala, the actor and director have become quite close,” informs a source, who has been watching the behind the scenes goings-on on the film. “Earlier there was a rumour that Vivek will not be doing the film, but on the contrary, it could be Abhishek Bachchan who is not doing the film any more for obvious reasons.” The source goes on to inform that Abhishek allegedly asked for the script and apparently wanted to know more details about Vivek’s role as well, although this is hard to believe of an actor who is flying high after the success of films such as Sarkar and Dhoom 2. What few people know is that the film was to earlier star Bobby Deol and Abhishek Bachchan, but after the fate of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, distributors are said to be wary of this particular jodi, and hence the idea of casting Vivek and Abhishek together cropped up. Now, with Shootout doing well, “Vivek has become Apurva Lakhia’s lucky mascot,” informs the source. Abhishek too has worked with Apurva Lakhia earlier in Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, however, the film didn’t do well. crazy_83 28-07-2007, 01:40 PM VIVEK MAKES ABHISHEK INSECURE? I only act on screen People said a lot of things about you. “Vivek has left his ego behind in his past life, along with the extra ‘i’.” Vivek's Girl 28-07-2007, 08:14 PM wow....thanks! crazy_83 29-07-2007, 04:49 PM Of praise and Vivek! You have crossed every last one of my expectations as an actor. You are brilliant’. I was taken aback. This was the best compliment I have ever got. Vivek Oberoi has received quite a few compliments for his performances, but there are some that are close to his heart. When he was in town recently, Vivek told us about one of them. “My compliment for Shootout at Lokhandwala came before the premiere,” he said, recounting the incident. “At about three in the morning one day, I got a call from Apoorva Lakhia. I got a bit worried – I mean, if you get a call from your director at 3 am, you’d think that either the shot wasn’t good or the dubbing did not go well. But he said, ‘You have crossed every last one of my expectations as an actor. You are brilliant’. I was taken aback. This was the best compliment I have ever got. The funniest thing about Maya (his character) in Shootout was that when he died in the movie, I saw a girl crying for him. I was amazed.” It seems there’s no dearth of compliments for Vivek, and no end to how good they can make him feel! After a successful Shootout At Lokhandwala , Lakhia has moved out of Sanjay Gupta’s camp. Now, he is all set to direct a thriller for Sunil Shetty and Ekta Kapoor. The movie, ‘Mission Istanbul’, stars Vivek Oberoi, Bobby Deol and a few other actors who are yet to be finalized. Since Vivek has a hard-hitting role in the film, he has been asked to develop a good physique for his role. And who better to ask for tips in bodybuilding than Sunil Shetty, who seems to have become an authority on health and fitness after his Biggest Loser Jeetega show. Vivek has reportedly asked Sunil for physical training regimens and detailed diet charts. Sunil has got Vivek introduced to his physiotherapist, nutritionist and even chef. In fact, Vivek has hit the gym with vengeance and is working out arduously to develop a brawny look for his role in ‘Mission Istanbul’. He is also following the diet regimen prescribed by experts. Vivek still has two more months to tone up his body as the shooting of the film starts from the first week of October. Vivek's Girl 30-07-2007, 09:00 PM Vivek is chilling out 28 Jul 2007, 0000 hrs IST,Mandvi Sharma,TNN http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Pune_Times/Vivek_is_chilling_out_/articleshow/2239077.cms Happy with the success of Shootout at Lokhandwala, Vivek Oberoi is chilling out. Faced with a slew of flops, Vivek Oberoi’s career got a new lease of life with Shootout at Lokhandwala . But, ask him about it, and he professes to have moved on. “I have had my share of compliments for the movie and, now, it is time to concentrate on the next subject,” he says. And what is this ‘next subject’? “I am preparing for Mission Istanbul . Besides, I have been taking my family on fun holidays to places where I always wanted to go. I have been in a completely chilled-out mood. I have tried a lot of adventure sports also. You think of an adventure sport, and I have done it - whether it is land, sea or sky - I have left nothing for later,” says Vivek. On the professional front, have things changed for Vivek? “All the directors whom I wanted to work with have been approaching me. I have been reading some very good scripts. Relationships have their own destiny, so when it’s meant to be, it will happen. For now, I am happy being single and I am going to be like this for a while. I don’t feel that there is anything missing in my life.” crazy_83 31-07-2007, 04:59 AM Viveik Oberoi jacks up his price After his much acclaimed performance in Shootout At Lokhandwala, Viveik Oberoi has jacked up his price. He is learnt to have asked for RS 4 crore for Mission Istanbul from Popcorn Entertainment. There has been a huge hike in remunerations across all the segments in the film business. Actors like Viveik are also part of the success brigade. see_ya 31-07-2007, 06:52 PM @ Crazy_83: Thanks for posting regularly. I love to read your posts. :D Vivek's Girl 01-08-2007, 07:45 AM Back with Bang Richa Gupta http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=248348 Kolkata, July 29: Vivek Oberoi is no longer the angry man who called one of the most infamous press conferences in Bollywood. “Our film industry is mayanagri. Oberoi, who has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, now does an about-turn and claims: “I prefer arc lights to limelight.” crazy_83 01-08-2007, 03:17 PM Silence please Vivek Oberoi would like his work to do the talking With “Shootout at Lokhandwala” a hit, Vivek Oberoi is back in business and has turned didactic these days. “I have been acting since I was four. When I joined the industry, fame and adulation were the last things on my mind… I just wanted to act. But along the way, in the last five years, I lost my way and the industry proved why it is called the ‘mayanagari’.” He pauses, only to add: “A lot has happened and you can put it in inverted commas, making me realise that it is important to stop and introspect. I cut down on my assignments and now I have just one film in my hand. But no, I am not free… I am busier than ever before. I am a mast maula… today I have time for myself, my hobbies, and am preparing for roles better. “Shootout”… is an example.” Is the glee on his face for real? “Absolutely!” But isn’t he a good actor? “Both ways it is a compliment.” We know Vivek has never been short of wisecracks and many feel that it is this habit of sharing everything with the media that spoiled his professional and personal relationships. He feels the media laps up everything when the winds are blowing your way and when things change for the worse, the same stories are turned against you. Hara-kiri? But doesn’t refusing offers like “Hum Tum” or “Munnabhai MBBS” amount to hara-kiri? “What I did was equally good. A solo-hero film with Subhash Ghai (“Kisna”), a film with national award winning director E. Niwas (“Dum”). In hindsight, I can say I didn’t make a mistake, but I have learnt a lot.” Again he has a point to make. “None of my films have done average business. Either they are big hits or super flops. I love such extreme reaction to my work.” The latest reaction is that his hairstyle suits only gangster films. “Company”, “Omkara” and “Shootout”. “Really, but I am not going to change it.” On a serious note, he shares how hard he worked to get into the character of Maya Dolas. “I spent time with some hardened criminals. One of them who started early made me understand how, when a 17-year-old commits murder he is full of fear. He tells everything to his colleagues. But once he kills two more, he takes it as an act of bravura. Later the exact description changes into dialogues, and gradually crime becomes a way of life.” These days one of his hobbies is to work on his body, for his character in his next film, Apoorva Lakhia’s “Mission Istanbul”, requires it. “It’s almost the same team that worked in “Shootout”…” Rumours are rife that a project by the same production house on the Parliament attack is afoot as well. “It’s true but in very early stages.” Another change in Vivek is that he no longer likes to talk about his NGO workin tsunami-hit areas or his spiritual side which takes him to Rishikesh quite often. “Over the years, I have realised that it is for people to judge your work rather than you talking about it. As for spiritual, I see Him in everyone. To me He is the greatest script writer.” Vivek's Girl 02-08-2007, 05:16 AM thanks hun! He got his first break in the Ram Gopal Verma's Company. The film's success led onto Vivek becoming a superstar overnight. Later he starred in action flicks Dum and Road. Vivek's roles speak of variety, his originality and own way of working. He follows his heart in whatever he does. "I have been told I am a quiet rebel, I do have rebellion streak. I tend to do things my way. I just believe do what your heart says. Follow your heart. Don't do what everybody is doing. We are here to find our own path, our own tendency and the best way is to follow your own heart, and there is no other way," the actor said. Vivek's portrayal of the gangster Kesu Firangi in Omkara gave a new turn to his career after the down he saw when his relationship with Aishwarys Rai went awry. However, Vivek still wants to be associated with love stories, if not in real then in reel life. "I have done romantic roles. I did Saathiya, which was big success, and I have been accepted in love stories, comic films and stuff like that. But as an actor we always look for a different challenge. Right now I am very excited about doing a love story. I am waiting for a really good script. I am feeling like doing a nice, romantic love story but if a good script comes my way." Vivek is now waiting for its next film Mission Istanbul directed by Apoorva Lakia which is having a big star cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol and Tusshar Kapoor. And she is considering casting either Abhishek Bachchan or Vivek Oberoi for the lead role. Bollywood has been inspired by Mumbai’s famous but now defunct textile mills before. And now at a time when the city’s skyline is changing, and swanky shopping malls are pulling down the huge and sprawling mills with their chimneys reaching into the sky, it is heartening to note a film being made on the textile workers’ story. Taking this aspect rather seriously, Sangeeta is determined to convert a real life story into a commercial and political thriller. “It will be based on the mill workers’ lives. And I want either Abhishek or Vivek to play the lead,” she revealed. “The hero will be an honest and hardworking mill worker and the story will show Mumbai before and after the great mill strike. Even Sanjay Dutt was originally signed to play an important character in this film.” Shooting is about to get underway at the empty Khatau Mills in south-central Mumbai. “The brass ghanti, the broken windows and the haunting sounds of the wind are nerve-cracking. This is going to be a real thriller,” said Sangeeta. Arun Gawli had played a very active role in the mill workers’ movement by spearheading many trade union strikes. And Sangeeta’s husband Sachin Ahir, Gawli’s nephew, is himself a trade union leader. So will Sangeeta base a character on these men in her film? “I will reveal that later,” she replied, building up the suspense already. Though his film career took off with a bang, it was the release of critically-acclaimed and commercial successes, Saathiya, Omkara, Shootout in Lokhandwala, which established his merit as an actor. But, if one goes by the word of the performer himself, Vivek swears by his character of Kesu Firangi which he played in Omkara and proclaims it to be his best film yet. Expressindia.com meets the actor during his recent Delhi trip. What types of roles do you love to do? Are you still to perform in your dream role? Each role comes up with its unique challenges, which excites me, and I try to give my best to it. Every role, which I have to perform, is like a dream role. How do you react to different types of roles? Like for any other actor, every role is like a challenge for me. I don’t like a role until I feel butterflies in my stomach. There is that anxiety, which comes with each character we play and makes us perform better each time. How do you rate your movies and where does Omkara stand for you? Omkara is my best performance yet. Though as an actor I strive to keep improving on myself but so far, this movie is outstanding for me. Omkara is a milestone for me. Personally speaking, are your satisfied with whatever Omkara has achieved? Yeah, to a great extent, I am happy with the way Omkara was received by the people and the enthusiastic response it got. It did very good at the box office and was widely critically-acclaimed. I, personally feel it should have been our entry for Oscars. It represents the Indian sentiments better than any other movie produced in the same year. Omkara is that genre of the movie, which seems to bridge the divide between the commercial and the serious cinema. Apart from yours, which character you like the most in Omkara? I loved the ‘villainous character’ of Langda Tyagi in Omkara played by Saif Ali Khan. He played it absolutely well. Nobody could have played that role better than Saif. His performance as Langda Tyagi was phenomenal. How far can Omkara be called a commercial film? Omkara cannot be called a serious film in the real sense of the word because it had an item number, but again it cannot be called a commercial film because it is a docu-drama, which is simply packaged to suit the commercial cinema. Do you like sports based movies? Do you intend to do a sports-based movie? Personally speaking, I love sports. Though, I am myself not involved in any sports based film at present. A couple of movies based on sports are in the offing and I hope people will like them. In Shootout at Lokhandwala, you play the role of a dreaded gangster Maya? How far was this character you played in the movie was in conformity with the real life gangster? It was again a very challenging role for me. But as far as the real life gangster (on whose life my character was based) is concerned, I have only heard about him. While shooting for this movie (Shootout at Lokhandwala), I collected data about this character. I tried to learn the minutes of my role in all possible ways to do justice to my character, but still there are certain things about the character, which remain untouched. What are your upcoming projects? I am working for Mission Istanbul directed by Apoorva Lakia. It is being made by Balaji Motion Pictures (in co-production with Popcorn Motion Pictures). Most of the cast in this film is the same from Shootout at Lokhandwala. How do you rate your performance in Bollywood so far? As an actor, I need to polish myself more. I am still in the learning process. What were missing were the 2 important stars, Anupam Kher and Mahesh Manjrekar who will be shot over the weekend to complete this ensemble cast picture that is destined to become the biggest star studded poster in the history of Indian Cinema. What is interesting is that the upcoming stars of great potential like Minissha Lamba, Neha Dhupia & Masumeh have been positioned equally with veterans like Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty, Nana Patekar, Shabana Azmi, Amrita Singh and Anupam Kher. Accoring to latest buzz the budding friendship between Vivek Saif Ali Khan’s ex has come as a surprise to many as they aren’t exactly like-minded people. They were introduced through mutual friends and since then have become inseparable. They’ve been going out often and appear to get on like a house on fire. Maybe Rozza’s maturity is just what Vivek needs to balance out his bubbly youthfulness.” However, when we ask Rozza about it, she curtly says, “Vivek? I haven’t even had a conversation with him.” Vivek's Girl 10-08-2007, 07:55 PM Salman-Vivek may clash at the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards event http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/1671_salman...ards-event.html (http://www.bollywoodmantra.com/1671_salmanvivek-may-clash-at-the-10th-rajiv-gandhi-awards-event.html) Everyone is well aware of the past animosity between actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi due to a certain Miss World. Although the clash between the two has happened many years back, it seems Salman Khan is not really willing to forgive and forget even though Vivek has tried his best to break the ice. And now both Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan may come face to face in front of a public audience at the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards. While Salman will be receiving an award in the Best Actor Category, Vivek will be performing on stage at the event. Unfortunately the organizers have placed Vivek’s performance which is the final act just a few minutes prior to Salman receiving his award. However now everyone seems to be holding their breath as Salman and Vivek may actually come face to face and fireworks may erupt. But since the organizers have already made an error they are taking likely steps to ensure damage control. The creative director of the event, Aarti Matoo says “Salman will be seated right in front of the stage and will enter and exit the stage from the front, while Vivek will be backstage and will leave the stage from there itself.” She also further adds “I think the problems between Salman and Vivek are now over and done with. They both are sensible and mature human beings and we are sincerely hoping there is no clash between them.” Although the organizers of the event would like to believe that the hatchet between the two actors has been buried, it is well known that Salman Khan even today refuses to acknowledge Vivek and recently he even belittled the actor when he was asked if he would ever work with him. On working with Vivek, Salman said “Oh Vivek that little idiot, of course I would not.” Salman is known to be extremely unforgiving when he dislikes someone. John, Bips and many others have often been at the receiving end of his unforgiving nature . So if the two actors come face to face, what will Vivek do? Congratulate Salman of course on winning the award, however it’s unlikely that Salman will accept the congratulations and may just leave Vivek with an outstretched hand looking like a fool all over again. Organisers are trying their best to prevent both of them from coming face-to-face The probability of Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi coming face-to-face during the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards is quite high. However, the show organisers are doing all that they can to ensure that they don’t do so. A source says, “It was very obvious that among performers like Tanushree Dutta, Koena Mitra and Aftab Shivdasani, Vivek is the biggest. The organisers have accordingly given him the end slot for performing. However, Salman’s award will also be announced at that time. The time gap between Vivek’s exit from the stage and Salman’s entry is barely 5 minutes.” Well, the organisers have come up with a solution to the problem. Our source reveals, “After Vivek exits the stage after his performance, he will remain backstage until the award is announced. Meanwhile, Salman will come on to the stage from the front, so that there’s no chance of him bumping into Vivek. Vivek will come out, from the back, while Salman is still on stage. This will give him enough time to get to his seat, while Salman is still on stage.” Aarti Matoo, creative director of the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards, says, “It is very obvious that Vivek is our star performer and he will come on stage only in the end. I think the problems between Salman and Vivek are now over and done with. They both are sensible and mature human beings and we are sincerely hoping that there is no clash between them.” She further adds, “Salman will be seated right in front of the stage and will enter and exit the stage from the front, while Vivek will be backstage and will leave the stage from there itself.” Vivek's Girl 11-08-2007, 04:49 AM http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3954/2lxo1xhr4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4039/2lxo2aah8.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4214/2lxo2czm5.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/4381/2lxo2ldg4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Vivek's Girl 11-08-2007, 04:49 AM http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4470/2lxo2mxf6.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/2142/2lxo2rpq0.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/4007/2lxo2vgr5.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6996/2lxo3fsz7.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Vivek's Girl 11-08-2007, 04:49 AM http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/8119/2lxo23dn6.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/2685/2lxo25wh9.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/121/2lxo30lo0.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/3458/2lxo31ss3.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Vivek's Girl 11-08-2007, 04:49 AM http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/7466/2lxo38vo7.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6867/2lxo39sz4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) crazy_83 11-08-2007, 05:45 AM Organ Donation Walkathon: Vivek Oberoi’s Yet Another Generous Act A volunteer social worker, Vivek Oberoi has always taken time out from his busy schedule and been supportive to social causes. His act of sponsoring a village after the Indian Ocean Tsunami speaks well of his generous work. This time the ‘Company’ star has stood to spread the awareness about organ donation. For the same, he participated in a rally that was organized by The National Network for Organ Sharing and the National Deceased Donor Transplantation Network as he feels that this Walkathon would help many and prevent illegal organ donations. The walkathon with theme ‘Gift of Life after Your Life is Divine’ began its march from Marina Beach (the second longest beach in the world) in Chennai, on August 4, and was flagged off by Sandeep Rai Rathore, the Joint Commissioner of Police. Currently the actor is dating Bollywood actress Tabu. He will begin shooting for Apoorva Lakia’s Mission ‘Istanbul’ in October. We reproduce it here, with kind permission from Mid-Day. Salman Khan can neither forget nor forgive people, who he believes have wronged him in the past. And that's specially true for Vivek Oberoi. At the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards function held at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, last night, Vivek was on stage, and had just finished performing to Beedi Jalaile with Koena Mitra [Images], when on his way out, he stopped before Salman (seated on the front row) and suddenly, without warning, put his hands together and bowed before him. Says Vijay Kalantri, chairman of the reception committee of the awards, seated next to Salman, "Vivek grabbed his (own) ears and bowed and mouthed 'bhai'. But Salman just shook his head." When MiD-DAY called Salman and narrated the incident, the actor refused to acknowldege Vivek's identity. "Who are you talking about?" When we said Vivek, he said, "Vivek who?" Naturally, we said, Vivek Oberoi. And he shot back, "Vivek Oberoi, who?" Irritated, he added, "Please don't call me for such things. I thought you had called me for the Salman Khan Foundation." The actor then abruptly hung up. A friend close to Vivek confirmed the incident had occurred. "It was a spur of the moment thing. Vivek suddenly decided to bow in front of Salman and smile at him. But Salman smiled back." When asked whether the gesture was indicative of an apology, the friend added, "Vivek is all-heart. He is also impulsive and spontaneous. The gesture was not premeditated. It was a cute, let's-forget-the-past gesture. Vivek has always been gracious about the whole incident." Earlier too, the Oberois had gone to meet Salman's mother, Salma Khan at Leelavati, when she was ill. Vivek also allegedly patched up with his co-star Arbaaz during the shooting of Shootout At Lokahandwala. In fact, two years ago, Suresh Oberoi had met Salman on the sets of a film and asked him to let bygones be bygones. But Salman has refused to let matters die. Says a source, "The organisers of the Rajiv Gandhi awards function had kept Vivek's performance as the last one. Thereafter, the award ceremony began. So naturally Salman was present. I think the organisers were expecting some tamasha and wanted something to happen so that their show becomes exciting. And it did." Adds Kalantri, "Shilpa Shetty [Images], who was seated next to Salman, requested him to acknowledge the apology and forgive him, but Salman shook his head and ignored Vivek." Both Salman and Shilpa were awarded for excellence in cinema and entertainment. The Vivek-Salman story Things have been sour between Salman and Vivek since long. On April 1, 2003, Vivek had called a press conference claiming that on the night of March 29 that year, a drunk Salman had called him up on the phone 41 times to abuse him. Salman, he had said, also threatened to come over to his house and kill him. He said Aishwarya Rai [Images] (Vivek's then girlfriend, who was earlier involved with Salman) had also received a number of abusive text messages on her cell phone. While Vivek is eager to let bygones be bygones, Sallu, who is normally large hearted, probably was in no mood to forgive and forget. And while the drama unfolded at the awards ceremony, one man got to see the action up close and personal -- Industrialist Vijay Kalantri, who was seated right next to Salman. Commenting on the incident, Kalantri said:“In the last phase of the performance, Viveik folded his hands and bowed to Salman, so I told Salman see, he is asking for your forgiveness. Then Shilpa and I said let bygones be bygones. But Salman just smiled and he did not want to forgive him." The four-year animosity between Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi started when Oberoi started seeing Ms Rai, and in a bid to come across as a protective boy friend, broke the cardinal rule governing the industry i.e. instead of sorting out his differences with Salman one-on-one, he chose to wash Salman’s dirty linen in public. Though, not one of the smartest move ever made, Vivek is trying hard to be in Salman’s good books. After his performance at the awards ceremony, Vivek said:" I am thankful and I congratulate him for winning the award tonight. I am sure he deserves it and so does Shipla. If they like my performance, it’s a very big compliment to me.” However, Sallu is not biting the bait and is probably a tough nut to crack, and let us face it, he has nothing to gain from kissing and making up with Vivek. Salman has made it clear in the recent past that he has no intention of working with Vivek Oberoi ever again. Meanwhile, Vivek seems to have learnt the lesson the hard way that in Bollywood its better to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Especially after going through a career slump, which was just recently revived with ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala.’ But will this filmy apology result in favourable results for Vivek? Or has Vivek's rather public apology simply fallen on deaf ears. Sippy, who was keen on making the remake of Satte Pe Satta with Sanjay Dutt in the lead, has now put the project on hold. Says Sippy, "I had planned to remake Satte Pe Satta with Sanjay Dutt but the project has taken a back seat after Dutt's arrest. Now, I want to remake Inkaar and I'm looking for the right face to fit into the shoes of Vinod Khanna." The director is keen on casting Vivek Oberoi for the lead role. He adds, "I feel Vivek Oberoi is a great actor and he is my first choice for the role. The discussions about the film are underway and I hope to make an announcement soon." Sippy is also working on Hamilton Palace, which stars Mimoh Chakravorty. It seems he has been entrusted with the responsibility of making Mimoh the next superstar. Adds Sippy, "My relationship with Mithun dates back to two decades and my film Boxer with him in the lead is still one of my dearest scripts, though it isn't my most popular film. I'm sure that Jimmy will strike a popular chord with the audiences." Meanwhile Sippy's other project, Mr. Khujli, with Rajpal Yadav in the lead, has an undecided fate even though the film is complete and ready for release. see_ya 24-08-2007, 11:16 AM I´m so glad, you´re finally back again. :-) crazy_83 24-08-2007, 05:59 PM Vivek Oberoi Releases Kannamoochi Yaenada Audio [Friday, August 24, 2007] http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/gallery/events/13039.html Vivek Oberoi has been something of a Chennai boy (he spent his formative years here). So it was no surprise to see Vivek Oberoi come all the way to attend the audio release of Kanamoochi Enada in Chennai on Thursday. The movie produced by Radaan Media and UTV features Sathyaraj, Radhika, Sri Priya, Prithviraj and Sandhya playing the lead roles. Music is by Yuvanshankar Raja and V Priya directs it. The first copy of the audio was released by Vivek Oberoi and was received by Suriya. Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Oberoi expressed his admiration for south Indian film technicians. He heaped laurels on the film personalities of south India and said that he admired their dedication towards work. On his part, Sathyaraj, said, “I am delighted to be part of such an interesting film and the movie has come out good”. He said,” With lot of Multinational Companies and corporate firms entering film production, the time has come for him to learn English”. On the on screen chemistry with co-stars, Sathyaraj, said, “I still wonder what the on screen chemistry is all about. When I was urged to act in Sivaji, they said I share a good on screen vibes with Rajnikanth. Similarly, Priya narrated the story of Kannmoochi Enada and said my on screen chemistry with Prithviraj will be good. I admit honestly that I don't know what the on screen chemistry is all about”. Earlier Radhika welcomed the gathering and prominent film personalities including Sarath Kumar, Rama Narayanan graced the occasion. crazy_83 24-08-2007, 06:03 PM Turkish Mission!! Vivek Oberoi, who excelled in the role of Maya Dolas in Apoorva Lakhia’s Shootout at Lokhandwala, is all set to learn Turkish language to impart a realistic touch to his another dream role of Rizwan in Lakhia’s forthcoming directorial venture ‘ Mission Istanbul.’ In fact, the plot of the film requires that the character of Rizwan converses with his colleagues in Turkish, so there is no other way out for the actor. The shooting for this ambitious project of Apoorva is set to start with a seventy day spell in Turkey from October 1. As a source close to production house says, ‘ Apu wanted Vivek to speak Turkish in the film, but then realized that the Indian audience would not be able to relate to it. Hence, he decided to make Vivek’s character speak a mix of Hindi and Turkish to lend authenticity to the character’s Turkish origins.’ Though Vivek Oberoi loves to do different things for different characters and is prepared to go to any length for that purpose, but he too is finding it hard to learn Turkish, as the language has no resemblance to any of the Indian languages. The problem is more compounded by the fact that the film has to be shot in sync sound and hence his accents should be perfect. Hollywood’s stunt director George Aguilar of ‘ The Departed and Gangs of New York fame will direct the action sequences for the film and for giving a perfect toned body look, Vivek has been training with fitness guru Sunil Shetty for a while now. Abhishek Bachchan is also expected to play a cameo role in the film. The long list of stars turning spoilsports didn't end with our Salman. There are others who at times display juvenile behaviour . Like for instance, Vivek Oberoi who hasn't lost any single opportunity in his attempt to win over Sallu bhai. The latest on his front is that after his recent failed attempt to win over Sallu bhai, he has been trying to win over Sallu bhai's bhais Arbaaz and Sohail. Chalo Sallu bhai, ab maaf bhi kar do na! Once you enter the Tamil film world, you will receive great support from the Tamil public. For that Vivek Oberoi is taking his first step by acting in a film directed by Selvaraghavan. But this is not a Tamil film. It is the Hindi re-make of '7G Rainbow Colony' and will be directed by Selvaraghavan himself. This film will be produced by Radhika's Radaan TV. With this, it steps into Bollywood too. Speaking about this, Vivek Oberoi said, "Selvaraghavan is a director of the new generation to have won the hearts of the young. I have seen the films 'Pudupettai' and '7G Rainbow Colony' directed by him. I liked them both. I am very happy to act under his direction." After Selva completes 'Aayirathil Oruvan' with Karthi, he will start work on the film with Vivek Oberoi. see_ya 27-08-2007, 12:10 PM So many Vivek news...what more can I ask for...lol. The film, as its title suggests, is set in Turkey and deals with the burning issue of international terrorism. Vivek Oberoi plays a Turkish character named Rizwan. Reports have it that the actor may have to learn Turkish to lend authenticity to his character in the film. Although most of his dialogues will be in Hindi and Urdu, Vivek will still speak some Turkish lines in between. Knowing Vivek’s habit of working hard on his roles, the actor is going to be game for learning Turkish. Apart from this, Vivek is also taking tips from Sunil Shetty , the film’s producer, to build a brawny physique for his role. ‘Mission Istanbul’ will be shot in Turkey from October onward. The shooting will be completed in approximately two-and-a-half months. The movie will be an action packed thriller with stunts by Hollywood expert George Aguilar, who was the stunt director for ‘The Departed’. see_ya 29-08-2007, 04:46 PM Here is a pic of the Turkish singer "Petek Dincoz" who will do an item number in "Mission Istanbul". http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5814/6petekdincoz1rn9.jpg Vivek's Girl 30-08-2007, 04:52 PM tfs... see_ya 31-08-2007, 10:59 AM Hey, take a look at this very cool signature: http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/2346/vivek7cm6id2.jpg SOURCE: www.vivek-oberoi.tk Vivek's Girl 01-09-2007, 07:21 AM very hot!! thanks! bijalicious 02-09-2007, 05:25 PM vivek's interview from the cineblitz september edition, credit:joie de vivre @ india-forums.com ---------------------------------------------- TO HELL AND BACK Vivek Oberoi may not have been the most admired person in the industry but he has been through his trails and has come out wiser..But what disarms Nishi Prem is the actor's willingness to look square at his own failings and make right of his wrongs.Preserve it boy, says Prem,it's a rare quality to find... This interview has been overdue for almost two years but we let it pass each time because the actor had more serious issues on his mind.Vivek was unavailable to almost anything or anybody in those days.Perhaps not even to himself.Caught in the mesh of a chameleonic love affair, the actor was,in his own words,"in a spin".But all that's under the bridge and the Bachchans. The sun's up and shining in Vivek's courtyard, like the smile on his face The clouds have passed....You look more at peace. I am...It's like coming home after a long long time. Shootout at Lokhandwala pulled you out of your exile. Professionally, yes, you can say that. It's like a bright sunrise at the end of a very long, very dark night. It feels great to see the smile back on my family's face. The last few years haven't been easy on them either.I wasn't going through a good time and it was tough on them to see me struggle emotionally.Ofcourse,it feels good to be out there again and the people yelling "Maya Maya" or singing "Aye Ganpat"...but first and foremost,I'm happy to see the relief on my family's face They were tough years both professionally and personally. It was my fault.I strayed.I digressed from the reasons that I had come here for and got involved with other things.I forgot I had wanted to be an actor for the love of it,for the joy of acting.I was 24,a kid, when I first tasted success, and the film industry is like Maya Nagri,a mesmerising wonderland. It is so easy to get carried away,to get lured and distracted. It can take you way from the core of what you are and why you are here.I started lusting for and desiring all the wrong things and I did things that I am not proud of at all.I guess that's why they call it the trappings of success. It traps you in all the wrong things. This time around, your experience with success is different. It's alot calmer,it's not chaotic. Also this time, success is so much sweeter because, like I said,I am seeing success through the eyes of my parents. There was Omkara inbetween, which you strangely failed to lay claim on or cash into. Maybe I didn't cash in,in the materialistic sense of the term but I cashed in on Omkara in a way that nobody else can imagine.Omkara changed my life.I was not in the right frame of mind when I got Omkara. My personal life was in a mess,my professional life was gasping,my sense of self was at its lowest ebb.Omkara came as my saviour.Out there on the sets of Omkara, watching Vishal Bharadwaj put together his film with so much love and care,so much passion,it brought me back in touch with my reasons for being in this industry. It brought me back in touch with the power and magnificence of cinema..I had the good fortune of spending four and a half months with Vishal Bharadwaj. If you think he is a brilliant director,he is an even more brilliant person. There was so much to learn by just watching him direct, interact, speak..just being in his company was inspiring I remember going to the sets even on days when I was not shooting just to watch him..and the passion with which he works...Vishal made me go back to thinking about the four year old kid that I was.I distinctly remember the first time I went on stage and how I completely forgot that there was an audience when I started to perform, and I remember there was a kid with me who forgot his lines and started to cry and panic and I looked at him, waited for him to remember, and when he didn't,I started speaking his lines.I wanted to become an actor because nothing else gave me that kind if high. But somewhere down the line, that connection had snapped,it went amiss.Omkara gave that connection back to me.Vishal Bharadwaj worked with so much integrity. He let nothing interfere with the fibre of his film.he's a courageous filmmaker and has the guts to take tough decisions. I was cut off from the world during Omkara, when I got back, the first thing I did was return all my signing amounts....I mean,at that time I was not riding on some high success or anything, money was not pouring in like it was at one time but I asked my daddy...can you back me on this? He told me as long as you believe in yourself, I'll believe in you...So I called these few producers and returned the money. It felt gret, digging in my heels and saying that I was not going to do a film I didn't believe in.It felt like I had done away with all my excess baggage, and after a long, long time in my life,I felt free ....Then Shootout at Lokhandwala came..and I said okay, till I finish Shootout at Lokhandwala I'm not going to think of what I have to do next...I have just signed a filmr ecently after 20 odd months. You also struck a special friendship with Ajay Devagan on the sets of Omkara I was not in a regular state of mind when I went to shoot for Omkara.Ajay was like an elder brother,a great support..I was happy I had a friend, something that I really needed and missed in those days. Must have been terrible to be the last to know that your girlfriend was seeing someone else...you must have felt like a fool to get to know about it from the papers. I'm okay with that.I would always want to give my partner the benefit of the doubt.I have never cared about what people have to say,I have always expected my people to come upto me and speak if there's a problem. It is too degrading to throw papers at a person's face and wait for explanations...I'd rather not pay heed to what the world is saying and wait for the person concerned to tell me.That's just the way I am. That's a tall order to maintain when everything else is pointing to a different direction. You know, people break up everyday, relationships change hands, people outgrow each other, get bored, find somebody else...it happens everyday. It's not a big deal. You can't hang somebody for changing their mind. It's a matter of an entire lifetime, after all.But there has to be some dignity in parting. If the relationship has deserved your love, attention and care at any stage,it also deserved a respectful closure. It had to be given a decent burial. If that doesn't happen,it can mess you up completely.I continued to stand by my relationship but towards the end,I didn't know if I was coming or going.I pretended all was good but my brains were being tossed around,I was reeling so much that I couldn't comprehend what was happening..I couldn't tell right from wrong, true from false, fake from real..It was not what she did,it was how she did it She never really acknowledged the relationship with you.She always kept the escape door open. The same happened with Salman And for an actor it unwittingly becomes a huge spectacle, right in the view of the entire world, compounded by the horrible feeling that, that the entire world is discussing and talking about what a big fool you have been. I'd still, after all that, pick the fool from the two parts. Even the industry at larg has often alienated you....there was almost a hate campaign against you at one time.. I must agree I did feel alienated at times, but in retrospect maybe I did things to put people off,i was too engrossed in my own doing,in my own stupid things. But things are getting better.I mean, there have been so many of my colleagues Ajay,Akshay,Sunny, they have all been there and this is not post Shootout..Hrithik came and hugged me and told me "Just concenterate on your work, that's the best antidote".He also gave me a book. All these guys..Ajay,Akshay,Hrithik,Sunny,they have a permanent big place in my heart Abhishek and you hit off well during Yuva and kept in touch even after that. Yes,we had a wonderful equation. He was very gracious. He did a guest appearance for me in Home Delivery...He did another for Shootout at Lokhandwala But that was for Appu(Apoorva Lakhia) Have you come face to face offlate with Abhishek Bachchan. No Not even at the Shootout at Lokhandwala..premiere. He arrived late after I left.I had to leave early.I had to catch a flight to NewYork.I had a show. But if you had met him. If I did meet him,I would have gone up to him and congratulated him for his wedding. Why would I be awkward of anything? The two of you met at Shaad Ali's wedding. He was exceptionally nice with me Were you aware at that time that he and Ash were seeing each other? The papers were full of it.But he was in a very supportive mood,in an advising mood, you could say..he sat me down and gave me a chat on senseless rumour-mongering Did you see Guru.Seeing that Ash-Abhishek affair blossomed on those sets? I think Guru was a great film. You cannot expect anything less than brilliant from a filmmaker as great as Mani Ratman What did you think of Abhishek in the film? I think he's a brilliant actor You and Abhishek are supposed to be doing Lakhia's Mission Istanbul together, you said he has a special appearance in that You will have to check that through, this is from what I have heard of that script You don't have any scenes together? We are working together. There is no problem at either end.We are both thorough professionals and will do the film with the same sincerity.Even if we do have scenes together,I would treat it like any other with any other co-star.I have noting to run away from.--maybe he could have a problem.Maine toh hamesha sach hi bola hai..Whenever I have meet him,I have been honest. Look, where I know I goofed,I'm prepared to make amends, and make right what i did wrong.I have made mistakes and I'm ready to accept that.I want to start afresh on a clean slate.I just want to do good work with good people.I just want to act and I don't want any external factor to be my reason to do or not to do a movie. Like you missed out on your pairing with Rani Mukherjee. You made a great pair..It was unfortunate that you had a fall-out with her. I really, really regret that.Rani is one of the most wonderful persons in the industry. You know, the best thing about her is that yo get what you see.She is what she is..We shared a great rapport...She was the first big actress I worked with.I hope a good script comes along and we can work together again. We met recently at a function and she was so nice and warm to me. You have gone and made peace with Aditya Chopra too. I went and apologised to Adi.Adi is one person who can leave differences aside very graciously. He congratulated me for Omkara, and said lets do some good work.He was very nice,I mean,I was to do HumTum,but then things didn't work out but now things are fine,In a way,it's like starting afresh. But I don;t want to rush into signing films.I don't want tog et entangled in a web again.Money has never been the motivating factor in my life.I have returned signing amounts even when my finances were low. This time,I want to be sure that my reasons are right for whatever I do. Source..CineBlitz..September edition Vivek's Girl 02-09-2007, 08:28 PM thanks! Vivek's Girl 02-09-2007, 08:29 PM Vivek begins again 3 Sep 2007, 0000 hrs IST,AFSANA AHMAD ,TNN http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/Vivek_begins_again/articleshow/2331505.cms http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/1520/photoeb8.jpg (http://imageshack.us) But he has also apologised to one and all and is trying to make up for the past wrong doings. Vivek Oberoi has a birthday message for himself today: It’s not important whether you succeed or fail in life, what’s important is that you did your best. The beleaguered actor is determined to live by this belief from now on. Yes, he agrees that he has made several mistakes in his short stint in Bollywood. He has stepped on many toes. Taken too many pangas with people. Earned considerable ill will. But he has also apologised to one and all and is trying to make up for the past wrong doings. He talked about Salman Khan. Ever since Vivek went public with their disagreement over Aishwarya (Rai), Salman has treated him like dirt. Vivek, since then, has made several attempts to patch up, but the usually large-hearted Salman hasn’t been able to forgive him. Recently, at an awards function, Vivek appealed to Salman from the stage with folded hands. Salman looked away. Many considered this as an act of desperation, but Vivek claims he is now able to go to sleep with a clear conscience. He said of the incident, I did what my heart felt was right at that time. I am driven by my heart. I had publicly hurt Salman’s sentiments once, and now I’ve made up publicly. There was no act behind this. I have done my bit. I am not looking for anything more or less from all this. I know people are entitled to their views, but I am sick and tired of their views on me. I need a little respite. I am looking forward to a new life. He is truly looking forward to life from now on. The success of Shootout At Lokhanwala after a slew of flops has brightened his horizon. It’s been a landmark year. I have learned from my mistakes. Today, I have no strings attached, no guilt to bog me down, I am a new man who is raring to go, he said, stretching his arms as if to embrace the horizon for his shoot for BT. I feel like a seven-year-old kid, fascinated by everything around, Vivek added as some schoolgirls came up to him for autographs. In Bollywood it is being said that for an actor who was looked upon as a talent to reckon with since his first film, Vivek evidently has lost focus on his work. He laughed, Who cares what happened in the past? The magic lies in the present. The power to be remembered fondly or otherwise remains within us. We are genies with magic lamps. Trust me, wish for good things, and you see it works. I have discovered this little secret. It is true, things are looking positive for Vivek at last. He’s in Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul and also in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout at Parliament , but is reluctant to talk about either project. On the personal front, the actor is enjoying his single status that has noticeably increased his hot quotient among female fans. Recently, though Vivek was linked with Kim Sharma, Saif Ali Khan’s ex Rozza, and even the lanky Tabu. He clarified, I met Rozza while shooting for Omkara when she was seeing Saif. Recently I bumped into her again a couple of times. That’s about it. Every morning at the breakfast table at home, it gets difficult to meet my parents’ eyes after they have read something embarrassing about me in the newspapers. I am a single guy, but that doesn’t mean I should be linked with anyone who I say hello to. Yes, I’ve been dating young, unattached girls on and off, but it’s nothing serious. Is he ready to fall in love again after Aishwarya? Love understands no rules. Relationships have their own destiny. I believe, someone special is waiting for me somewhere, said Vivek. bijalicious 02-09-2007, 08:33 PM ur welcome and thanx for that article! awww vivek's so cute....i luv reading his interviews Vivek's Girl 02-09-2007, 08:55 PM ur welcome and yeah..vivek is cute! A new era has started for me and I am looking forward to it, says Vivek, who turns 30 today. Only he has a birthday wish. From next year, I want to go back in reverse, he laughs. And how is that? I want to turn 29 next year, after turning 30 this year. Let reverse counting start, he laughs. But that apart, how will he rate the year gone by? Fantastic, he says. A year that saw his former girlfriend getting married in the first family of Bollywood and him becoming almost a pariah in the industry? I have no complaints from the year gone by and I have no specific agenda for the year to come, says a very diplomatic Vivek, adding, I wake up everyday and ask God, ‘So what do you have in store for me today?’ And eventually I get to know what gift I get from Him. And how does he intend to celebrate the day? I am a home bird. So I guess I will spend my day with my family and close friends. I don’t have birthday bashes. The whole idea of a quiet birthday is what appeals to me. The actor is currently busy with preparation for Mission Istanbul . Acting is a very serious profession. Somewhere down the line, putting in effort to make the acting look effortless is what defines a good actor and I am working toward that, he says. | |
