Many people (in fact almost everyone) associate the Religion and God together. It's automatically assumed that if a person doesn't believe in organized religion, he is an atheist. And if a person is an atheist, he's B-A-D. (that logic is beyond me actually. I've seen and met countless "believers" who simply go to the temple and carry out rituals because that's the social norm but barely ever apply the principles in their actual life. In contrast, I've met atheists who I respect immensely for their principles and morals in life and who've done more commendable actions than the believers. Point is: religion doesn't define a person)
Anyway, back to my MAIN point: Why do people consider it necessary to believe in religion to believe in God? Religion is about God but is God really confined to religion? Religion is man-made: all the holy books and scriptures were written by men. As I read somewhere: The Bible (as the other holy books) weren't faxed by God. Is it justified to say that if a person refuses to take other men's opinions on God and accept them as their religion, they are shunning the very concept of God?
For some reason, when I think of religion, I think of conformity. The majority of people believe in it simply because that's how they've been brought up; that's what the society around them has influenced them with. Society says religion is necessary, hence it is. Society says if you "sin", you go to hell, hence you do. Society plays a pretty major role in religion. It's pretty ironic and even sad that many people simply pray/believe out of fear that if they don't, they will end up in hell or have to experience God's wrath. I've seen and observed that many people don't even understand what they believe in; many follow blind faith simply because that's what their parents have taught them ever since they were born. Obviously, if you've lived with an idea your entire life, it's going to sound like the truth. But should it be that way? Should you utter mantras when you don't even know what they mean? Should you be believing simply because that's what society says you should do or because you genuinely know and understand what and who you're believing in? Is organized religion simply a way of keeping society together and creating some morals laws or is it genuinely a "way" that leads to God?
