Shahrukh Khan and Ram Gopal Varma to do a film
By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 17, 2006 - 03:33 IST

It has finally happened! Shahrukh Khan and Ram Gopal Varma will soon be doing a film together. However, it isn’t the remake of Sholay, in which Varma wanted him to play Gabbar. Varma recently visited the actor on the sets Karan Johar’s film. It is too early to reveal the subject of the film. However, the duo will definitely work together.

'I wouldn't go on a film set, where there's no SRK'

Friday, February 17, 2006

Mumbai, February 17: Karan Johar, master of mushy romances and one of the most successful directors in Bollywood, says he is now trying to gather the courage to make films in other genres as well.

Karan, 33, already has more than a half dozen hits to his credit and is set to release his next, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, about marriage and other relationships.

"I make films I believe in. Today my strength is emotional drama. I know I lack courage to do a variety of films but I am getting better," Karan said in an interview.

"I am dealing with topics that I might have not thought of earlier." He started in the movie industry when he was 23, producing major hits that starred the biggest names in the industry, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

"I don't run down people who make so-called 'intellectual' films'... but I also know that I am not capable of making these kinds of films. So I choose not to even attempt them," he said.

"If that makes me limited, then maybe I am ... I've never claimed to be an all-round filmmaker." All of his films have featured Shah Rukh Khan. The two are close friends as well, and Karan said he couldn't imagine doing a film without SRK. "I would never want to go on a film set, where he's not there. Right now, I can't think about it and I hope I don't have to. He's a part of me and he gives me a lot of strength, emotionally and professionally."

The prospect of big shot director teaming up with an equally big time actor always succeeds in stirring hoopla of excitement. In some cases, the idea never takes off actually, ending up only being a sideshow. Getting a lot of publicity in the bargain is the only yield that surges out of the whole panorama. But there are a few instances that have resulted in a definite culmination and the outcome was just as resonant.

http://www.glamsham.com/download/picturegallery/events/vikram_chatwal_party/02.jpg

That is exactly what happened when Ramgopal Varma and Sanjay Leela Bhansali cast Amitabh Bachchan in SARKAR and BLACK respectively. Ashutosh coasted along with Shahrukh in SWADES amicably and it showed in the feel that the film exuded. Shahrukh is now doing the remake of DON with another young and talented director Farhan Akhtar who showed a lot of promise with DIL CHAHATA HAI and LAKHSYA. And a fresh example would be of RANG DE BASANTI that saw the coming together of the technically sound filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Aamir Khan.

With the speculation of Mani Ratnam to do a film with Aamir Khan, another cracker of news comes following close on its heels. Superstar Shahrukh Khan has agreed to cut a movie with Ram Gopal Varma. The details regarding the film are still in the closet but in all probabilities the deal could be pretty much on. While Mani’s film would be an interpretation of the grand epic Mahabharata that is being produced by Bobby Bedi, Ramu’s project is still in the negotiation stages.

Well, Shahrukh’ gonna be in a good ‘company’ with Ramu!

Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan is keen to see friend Karan Johar married. The 33-year old director-producer has recently turned 33 but hasn't married yet. As Karan often said about SRK that he is not only a friend but also a brother. So how can SRK ignore his responsibility? As per close sources, SRK already in negotiations with some of most beautiful lady's parents. However on asked Karan about it, he said marriage is in his mind, but he isn't in a hurry. Is he dating anybody now? Karan remained quiet for a while and later said his sex life is stable without any lady in his life. Strong guy, right!

For me Shah Rukh Khan is like a God. He is kind and will always take care about the problems of his friends. He is a person who is very easy to discuss and talk with.
He likes to help people. For me he is a very special human being

Amitabh Bachan
Who's He? Actor/Living Legend of Indian Cinema
Work with SRK: K3G, Mohabbatein
What does he say?
Shah Rukh Khan is the rage of the country he is a superstar and loved by millions of people....he's a very very hard working actor er doesn't take anything for granted

Preity Zinta
Who's She? Actress/Friend/Today's Superstar
Work with SRK: Costar in Kal Ho Naa Ho, DilSe
What does she say?
SRK is a one-take artiste. He's brilliant and he's really quick. Shahrukh is a powerhouse. Even though he has hurt his back, his energy level never dips on the sets, he's constantly hyper, and he wants you to do the shot fast. He's excellent with improvisation, a very fine actor to work with. He is not selfish. He will never try to take your line or your place, sure, he keeps you on your toes. His timing is really good and if you are not alert you drop the scene from your side. He's all there. And his energy spreads to the whole crew.

Yash Johar
Who's he? Producer
Work with SRK: K3G, KKHH
What does he say?
Is it only 10 years? May he continue for another 40 years. He has been a very big success and it is an achievement that he's worked with the biggest producers and in all kinds of films. And he shall continue to do so and we shall continue to work with him

Farah Khan
Who's She? Choregrapher/Director
Work with SRK: Choregraphed innumerable SRK songs and director of Main Hoon Na
What does she say?
He is my friend, brother, father... He means everything to me. I don't listen to anyone -- not to my parents, not to my brother [television anchor Sajid Khan], not to anybody. I don't give a damn about anyone's opinion. But I listen to Shah Rukh. I care about his opinion.I guess I do this because I feel he really cares for me -- he doesn't say it but his actions show it. I know he wants what is best for me. He has done things for me that even my family members wouldn't do.
He is much more than a friend to me . He is my guardian angel. Sometimes, I feel that he has been sent in place of Dad. Shah Rukh trusts me to the extent that he asked me to direct his Rs 25-crore Main Hoon Na.

Karan Johar
Who's He? Director/Best Friend
Work with SRK: Director of K3G & KKHH.
What does he say?
To me, Shah Rukh is a very spiritual person. If he honed that part of his personality he'd really be something. He is really God's good son. He knows the right things to say. He is very spiritual in a lot of ways. He has the right kind of spiritual path that he tells you about if he feels close enough to you.
I give him the respect I give my father. I can never have a casual conversation with him. He is more like a spiritual influence. He is like a senior in my life, but if I need a friend then he makes a brilliant friend.
In many ways, he is like therapy to me. He senses when I am down and out. He tells me this is bothering you even if I may appear completely normal. It makes you wonder how he sensed that. He has that kind of intuition. He is a wonderful human being

Juhi Chawla
Who's She? Actress/Best Friend
Work with SRK: Costar in PBDHH, Yes Boss etc & Co-owner Dreamz Unlimited.
What does she say?
I think I am really lucky to be a close friend of Shah Rukh Khan. In my opinion he is not only handsome but also very smart. And he has a sharp mind. He likes to read and this habit makes him a clever and respected person.
He has nothing conventional about himself. In fact, I feel he has the most unconventional face. But there is something really vulnerable about him when he is on screen. His dimpled smile is very endearing.
He is sharp and intelligent. He is full of beans, he has an unfair amount of energy. He packs it in a day what I would do in a week! And whatever he does, Shah Rukh gives his best fullest attention. He will not put off till tomorrow what he can do today. He is fond of playing more games and sports, but he doesn't know how to play a friendly game. He will always play to win, even it's a haramless game of Pictionary ---Shahrukh has to win it, everytime his energy sets him apart from the rest.

Sonali Bendre
Who's She? Actress
Work with SRK: Costar in Duplicate & English Babu Desi Mem
What does she say?
We first worked together in English Babu Desi Mem when he was just a newcomer. And then again in Duplicate when he was a superstar. The one thing that has remained constant is his energy. If I had even 50 per cent of Shah Rukh's energy level, I'd have gone places. Contrary to popular belief. Shah Rukh isn't indifferent to his female co-stars. He was extremely helpful during Duplicate. He realised I was uncomfortable playing the vampish character, especially because I'm not like that in real life. He went out of his way to put me at ease. People say that Juhi and he share a better personal rapport. But not once during the making of the film did either of them make me feel left out.

Kareena Kapoor
Who's She? Actress/Friend
Work with SRK: Costar in K3G & Asoka.
What does she say?
He's the most amazing actor we have. He looks like the boy next door and yet he's so attractive. I just love him. If only he wasn't married. Shahrukh is the only man on earth who makes me go weak in the knees. I have done two of my major films with him - Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Asoka. We share a wonderful working relationship. For me, he really is a living legend. There is no one better or bigger than Shah Rukh. I have really been a crazy fan of his and often during Asoka he had to tell me, "Concentrate on the shot and not on me." For me, working with him was a dream come true. I hope to do more work with him. This is an association that I want to continue.

Shahid Kapur
Who's He? Actor
Work with SRK: Pepsi commercial with SRK & Kajol
What does he say?
I think Shah Rukh is a completely self-made person. He started right from the beginning and has reached the top all through his own efforts. I wish him more success and the best of health.

SRK's not-to-do list

Shah Rukh Khan has made no bones about the fact that he is open to dancing at weddings just to rake in the moolah!
And we appreciate the honesty! But where would he draw the line? There are some things that even he would not do for money.

For the super star, on screen kisses are a complete no-no. He's okay with lovemaking scenes, as long as the scene
does not involve kissing. Kissing his co-stars makes him uncomfortable. Hard to believe, but the actor states that
he is way too shy to do very intimate scenes, on screen.

Coming a close second on this list is hitting women in his movies. Fans would find it quite ironic, because he has
been most appreciated in his obsessed-lover kind of roles in films like Anjaam, Darr and Devdas. In Baazigar too, he
had an out and out negative role. The story goes that during the shooting of Anjaam, he would feel so guilty after the
violent scenes with Madhuri, that he would go and hug her. And this happened after every take! That's chivalry at its best!

The last thing which he would never do onscreen is say dialogues with expletives! Gaalis are just not his cup of tea.
Though it might be recalled, that his dialogues had quite a generous dose of gaalis in Krishna Vamsi's Shakti.
But since its SRK, exceptions can always be made.

So Shah Rukh Khan certainly has his principles which he stands by. Maybe the current generation can pick up
a tip or two from the reigning superstar!

Shah Rukh Khan turned 40 on November 2, and when we asked readers if they had met SRK, the response was overwhelming.

Here are a few more words from the world's luckiest fans:

Tushna Master: One day, I went to Famous Studios, Mahalaxmi, (in Mumbai) with my uncle and aunt, to see the shooting of a Pepsi commercial starring SRK .

I reached there at about 10 am. SRK hadn't arrived yet. I was sitting in the common artists' room, when suddenly, one of the model coordinators came up to me and asked if I would like to be one of the extras in the shoot.

I immediately agreed! I was given a golden coloured sharara and lots of jewellery to wear. I enjoyed every moment that I wore it! I was supposed to be a bride in the ad. It really made me feel like one, for that day of the shoot!

After I was dressed, I was sitting patiently for SRK to arrive. He arrived in the evening, directly from the airport. The moment I got the news of his arrival, my heart started beating faster than normal. Then, my uncle took me to SRK's greenroom, to meet him before the shoot began.

I took my camera and autograph book and went in. The moment I saw him, I was speechless! I was on seventh heaven! He asked my name, and I told him. Seeing me in that costume, he asked me if I was in the ad too. I replied that I was. Then I requested him for his autograph and to have a photograph taken with him! He agreed to it. When he stood next to me for the picture, I almost blanked out! I just couldn't believe that this was actually happening!

When I returned home, I just couldn't sleep! I was so thrilled to have just stood next to SRK! But me story doesn't get over there.

Since I was part of the shoot, I was called the following day again. But, luckily for me, I wasn't in the picture on the second day. Since my previous day went so well, I thought I'd take a chance and carry a candle that I had made especially for SRK!

On that day, SRK arrived in the afternoon. I went to his greenroom with my gift. I was a bit scared, as I wasn't aware whether he would accept it from an unknown person. There were about five people sitting with him, and they gave me a 'What are you doing in here?' look. I excused myself and gave the gift to SRK.

To my surprise, he got up from his seat to take it! I told him that it's a birthday gift for him, since his birthday was just two days later. He actually smiled, and gave me a hug. He said, 'Thank you so much! So sweet of you! Can I open it?'

When he opened it, I told him that I had made it myself especially for him! That was the happiest moment of my life!

Rahul Sheldekar: This was sometime in 1989-90, when I was in Std 4 or 5. It was just after Shah Rukh had starred in the serial, Fauji. It was a Sunday morning, and he was acting in a play called Idiot. That time he had come to shoot at this place in Opera House, in the same lane as my home.

Seeing someone in real life who had appeared in front of the TV was a great experience. With my two brothers, I kept calling out 'Fauji, Fauji!' He looked up and waved. I saluted him and he returned my salute.

Further, I remember that it was the month of January and Mr Khan was flying kites from the house across the road. He used to smoke a lot, and I liked his style of smoking. Today, I feel happy when my friends say that I smoke the same way Mr Khan does.

I am also fond of his style of greeting people. He shakes hands, then kisses his fingers and touches his forehead. I tried to copy that style but unluckily, it does not suit me.

Anyway, Mr Khan if you read this and remember any of it, it would be a great pleasure for me.

Shamaila Khan: I interviewed Shah Rukh when he came to London to promote Devdas with Aishwarya Rai. He was very charming though he was chain-smoking. It was great to meet him. Happy 40th birthday, Shah Rukh!

Weda: It was August 21, 2004, during the Temptations Concert in Ahoy (Rotterdam). Like all his other fans, it was also my dream to see Shah Rukh in person.

My brother decided to get in touch with the concert organiser to arrange a meeting with SRK, for me.

The organiser guaranteed that I would get to meet Shah Rukh. But when we went to the concert, they pretended that they knew nothing about my meeting with Shah Rukh. When I heard that I couldn't meet Shah Rukh, I started crying.

The show started at 9 pm, and my family was attending the concert with me. I couldn't believe my eyes when Shah Rukh came on stage. Everybody was screaming with joy, except me: I was just crying. People were standing in front of me, and I couldn't see anything. So my brother took me to the front. I was so close to Shah Rukh! But I refused to leave the venue without meeting SRK.

We were standing close to the hall where the actors were changing costumes. I saw Shah Rukh running into the hall. We screamed his name but he couldn't hear us because of the noise. I had bought a gift for Shah Rukh, and my brother asked a security man to give the gift to Shah Rukh. He saw me crying and said, 'I'll make sure you can give it yourself.'

I waited to see this man again, but he was gone. Suddenly, I saw Shah Rukh's wife Gauri standing next to us. She saw me crying and ran into the hall to get Shah Rukh for me. I felt my heart thudding! After a few seconds, I saw him coming out of the hall. Gauri pointed me out to him, and he walked towards me.

But I just couldn't look at him! I was crying with my hand in front of my face. He kneeled down and took my hand away from my face. I couldn't say a word!

Then Shah Rukh hugged me! It was the most beautiful moment in my life!

He wanted to see me backstage after the show. We went, and I saw Shah Rukh with his son Aryan. He said, 'I will go and change, then I'll come back to you.'

We waited for about half an hour and then he came. I gave him my gift. He was so close; he looked straight into my eyes and thanked me. Then he kissed my hand!

Aryan was standing next to him. He is so sweet, just like his dad.

I didn't get the opportunity to thank Gauriji for what she did for me. I hope someday I will get a chance to thank her.

Dipti Khilnani: Yes, I have met SRK! It was in March, 1995, on a holiday.

I was in school. SRK's film Deewana had just released but he wasn't as famous yet.

But I was too excited about him! I was with my cousins, playing Holi at the Gateway Of India (in Mumbai), when I saw him entering the Taj hotel. I ran behind him.

The gatekeeper didn't let us go in at first, as we were in dirty clothes. SRK was sitting down for dinner with his wife, Gauri, and 10 female models.

I managed to grab a paper and pen from the waiter, and asked for his autograph. SRK asked me my name but I just kept staring at him. Finally, I told him my name. I still have that autograph framed in my room.

ok, my turn :D well i was about 7, when srk came to a concert here. since the guy who paid for it to be here was my dad's friend, we got to go back stage. but by the time we got there, the stars had already gone back behind da building to leave. so when we got back, i walked forward to da limo so i could see inside, and den all of a sudden i saw srk come out of da door!!! time froze for me den. he came down the steps and ppl started surronding him, buti couldn't move. all i could do is stand there, looking at his face, and just staring. and den at some point, he looked down at me and smiled. and w/o even trying a smile came on my face, and gve me the warmest feeling i'd ever felt.

most of u might being thinking, why didn't i go up there and try to talk to him, or anything. and well da reason is dat first, i was so in shock i could just stare, and second, i wanted to hve a memory of him, not just seeing him one day and forgetting da nxt, i wanted to remember every moment of seeing him, and dats why after all these years, i still remember everything clearly

See all those fellows in the photo, staring raptly at images on the screen? One of them could be me, if the snapshot had been taken in New York City, and if one of the men happened to be Caucasian. (No, I don't watch movies in the lotus position.) For I am that strange, nearly solitary creature: a non-Indian fan of Indian movies.

Indian popular movies, that is. The movies that sing. The movies that show beautiful people suffering glamorously, wrestling with dilemmas of family honor and filial loyalty and, when words can't express the ache or ardor in their hearts, dancing vigorously with a couple of hundred of their best friends. The movies that enthrall, enrage and obsess a billion Indians, on the subcontinent and around the world. The ones that almost no serious film critic west of Suez notices, let alone cherishes.

To critics and film lovers in the West, the phrase "Indian movies" has long had an entirely different meaning: the stately, languorous studies of Satyajit Ray and his art-house progeny. Most film-savvy Westerners don't know, or care, that India also possesses a huge national cinema that rivals Hollywood in quantity and quality.

This was not always the case. In the early 1950s the Cannes Film Festival, then as now the introducer and arbiter of international movie taste, showcased several mainstream Indian films. V. Shantaram's Amar Bhoopali, Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zamin (a prize-winner), Raj Kapoor's Awara, the Kapoor-produced Boot Polish (which won a special award for child actress Baby Naaz)—all played on the Cannes screen, announcing that the newly independent India, like post-war Japan, was making movies that deserved the world's respect. But in 1956 Cannes showed Ray's Panther Panchali. From then on, until Devdas played last year, popular Indian musical dramas vanished from Cannes. The "other" Indian cinema was now the one the worldwide film community recognized as "Indian."

That's the one I knew of too—until I saw a retrospective of Mani Rathnam's work at the Toronto Film Festival in 1994. Rathnam, a Tamil who made his movies in Madras, is not exactly Bollywood. But Nayakan (a gloss on The Godfather, retold and musicalized with the vigor of Singin' in the Rain) and Roja (one of the director's early I-love-a-terrorist dramas, boasting A.R. Rahman's first major movie score) were similar in form and style to the Bombay product. They were also, to me, revelations: thrilling proof that someone knew how to make serious films with a racing pulse. For decades a chasm had separated two genres: the churning, air-headed "movie" and the slow, austere, art-house "film." Rathnam reminded me that movie entertainment could also be—should be—film art.

I threw myself into Bollywood-style films, without reservation or condescension. Since they were not to be found even in specialty video stores in New York City, I ventured into Manhattan's Little India. There, the trove opened. The older tapes might be of execrable quality, and the films might not all be subtitled. But they showed me that India's movie splendor stretched back a half-century (the art industry's golden age was the '50s ) and forward, if more haphazardly, to the present.

A movie critic's trade secret: we want you to think we are scholarly types, exegetes of the director's art, but like any passionate moviegoer, we love to fall in love—with tender or terrible stories, with exotic locales, and especially with movie stars. Kapoor and Guru Dutt were gifted directors, but they were also charismatic actors: Kapoor, to me, is a swarthier Ronald Colman; Dutt, a softer Johnny Depp. They also had radiant co-stars: slim, intense Nargis for Kapoor and, for Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, so luminous she lights up the murkiest scene. I find Shabana Azmi a glorious and heroic figure—in her films and her public life. I'm in awe of Amitabh Bachchan's stature and Old Testament God voice; then I dissolve in admiring giggles as, in the Jumma Chumma number from Hum, he marches around a saloon carrying a hose that seems to spritz geysers of beer from his loins—a true Bachchan bacchanal. Of the younger stars, Shah Rukh Khan still beguiles me with his range, his pout, his dimples. And I'll see almost anything with Tabu or Urmila Matondkar.

I'll probably see them alone. When Devdas was shown at Cannes, I was the only critic still there at the end. But I really don't care if Indian popular cinema attracts other acolytes from among my critical colleagues in the West. I'm happy to be a solitary cultist whose true brethren are in that photo, entranced by the beatitudes of Bollywood.

Director Haroon Mirza seems to have become a hot SRK favorite where his ad films are concerned. After the recent Airtel ad, which showed SRK in an all new get-up of a Sardar, Mirza recently shot with the superstar for the Hyundai accent campaign. "It is about the new reduced prices of the Hyundai Accent post-budget and will have Shah Rukh in a different get-up once again," Haroon informs, adding that he's also been signed to direct a few ads by SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment.

Incidentally the Airtel ad was recently voted as the second most popular ad by viewers. The Hyundai ad is expected to be on air in the next few days.

Shah Rukh Khan may don Amitabh's cap, while Akshay Kumar might stand in for Shashi Kapoor

Ram Kamal Mukherjee

This is the season of remakes. While young filmmakers are busy remaking classics, Yash Chopra is planning to remake his own ’70s block-buster Kabhie Kabhie. Originally made with Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Rakhee, the new version is likely to have Shah Rukh Khan playing Amitabh and Akshay Kumar playing Shashi Kapoor. If the project falls into place, Yash Chopra will be working with Akshay Kumar for the first time.

“Yashji has been planning to remake Kabhie Kabhie with stars of today's generation for some time,” says an industry insider. “Of course, it won't be a frame-to-frame remake of the earlier film. The subject may be similar but the treatment and approach will be far more contemporary.”

Apparently when Yash Chopra mentioned the idea of the remake to his favorite hero, Shah Rukh Khan, the actor was pretty excited. Currently he is acting in another Bachchan remake, Don, but obviously Amitabh's role in Kabhie Kabhie is a dream role for any actor. “Shah Rukh was his first choice for Amitabh's role. He thought of casting Akshay Kumar for the second role because of his current box-office status. Shah Rukh and Akshay have never worked together, so it's a new combination which may just turn out well,” he adds. Allegedly Yash Chopra has already sent feelers to Akshay Kumar. Currently the actor is away in Cape Town and he will meet Chopra once he is back from his outdoor shoot. Yashraj Films had also approached Rani Mukherji for Rakhee's role. Apparently Rani doesn't have dates available, so now they are considering Preity Zinta.

Annoying Habits of SRK

His super star status would have you believe that Shah Rukh Khan is perfection personified. But ask his wife and she would tell you that he’s far from perfect!

Like all other normal couples, they too squabble over trivial issues. SRK has gone on record to say that he has the worst habits and his fans should not follow his example! His wife, Gauri could not agree more.

In this relationship, it’s not the wife, but the husband who spends way too much time in the bathroom! It is this very habit that drives Gauri Khan up the wall. In his defense, Shah Rukh Khan says that it is the only part of the house that is peaceful and not noisy. It’s his personal space. It is almost like his mini office where he does everything from reading to making important calls! That would mean a lot of time spent in the loo!

That’s not where it ends. Another one of SRK’s irritating habits is the fact that he sleeps too late. That’s something he has been doing all his life. The worst part is that his kids have followed suit and sleep late as well! Considering that he’s had these bad habits all his life, it doesn’t look like SRK has any scope for change, now. Remember, old habits die hard!

Holi is just around the corner and we wonder what our top stars would be doing. We caught up with Shahrukh Khan who immediately said that he has no plans for Holi this year for the fact that his family and friends will be going out of town so he is going to be baby sitting his kids and their friends. After that he plans to leave for a shooting schedule at about 4 pm.

On being asked why he has stopped his Holi parties, he is quick to answer that all the parties are always arranged by his wife and so we will have to quiz her about it.

By Harish C. Menon, IANS

Former diva Sridevi and reigning king Shah Rukh Khan are Bollywood's best-dressed personalities, says stars' designer Manish Malhotra.

The man, who has evolved from being a mere Bollywood dresser to full time fashion designer and now budding movie director, says the two stars can give quite a few lessons on how to dress.

"Sridevi is my favourite actress in terms of dressing sense. I started my work with her, learnt so much from her. Apart from being one of the finest actresses, I think she has a lot of knowledge about costumes," Malhotra told IANS on the sidelines of the ongoing Lakme fashion week.

Among men I think it is Shah Rukh Khan. He can carry out anything," said the designer who pulled a coup of sorts at the fashion week when he had Kajol and Preity Zinta walking the ramp on his show earlier this week.

It was a first for Preity and a feather in the cap for Malhotra, who rarely participates in big fashion events like the fashion week but stole all the attention with his autumn/winter collection titled "Freedom" which he describes as "luxe diffusion".

His new collection for both men and women is inspired from the soul liberating philosophy of Sufism.

Malhotra is of the view that Indian fashion is set to go places.

"Indian fashion is completely moving on. We are soon going to be up there. What we need is funding, a lot of manpower," he said.

"It all started with the kitsch look of Indian designs when the outside world stuck on to ganpatis, agarbattis, skirts and mirror work. India will be number one five years and if not at least in the top five."

Malhotra, who has also clothed pop star Michael Jackson, moved into mainstream designing only in 1998 and has marched forth with characteristic brilliance.

He is a proclaimed favourite of actresses like Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, Preity, Urmila Matondkar and Kajol as well as top actors like Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgan. The elite client list also includes the likes of Parmeshwar Godrej, Sheetal Mafatlal, Tina Ambani and Avanti Birla.

When asked whether his frequent shifting of careers was a sign of him easily getting bored, Malhotra said: "No. In fact if I was bored I would simply leave one and start off another."

"But here I am still doing everything that I did in the past. I am actually loving it," said the stylist who fashioned Urmila Matondkar's famous look in "Rangeela" as well as designed clothes for blockbusters like "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge" and "Main Hoon Na", besides of course all of Karan Johar's films, including "Kal Ho Na Ho" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham".

Up next is the yet to be released "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" starring Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Kiron Kher and Arjun Rampal.

Commenting on his attempt to venture into filmmaking, Malhotra said: "A designer is a creative person. I feel I can do more. So why should I not?

"The film was in the script stage when I had a little trouble as the whole cast was going haywire. So I thought I should do something totally different and in short think of a totally different script.

"I have not thought of anything including cast or plot. The script is still under construction so I had rather not talk about it."

MUMBAI, India (AP) - Bollywood leading man Shah Rukh Khan says Indian filmmakers should take some lessons from Hollywood and remake more Hindu movie classics.

Khan has begun shooting a remake of the 1978 Don, playing a man who looks just like a mafia lord and secretly takes his place after the kingpin is killed by police. The scam unravels when the gang finds out.

"In Hollywood people remake films and they are appreciated," Khan said in an interview in Thursday's Mumbai Mirror newspaper. "They don't have as many prejudices as we have about reworking old films."

He said if a remake came after 20-25 years, the next generation can have a chance to enjoy a classic. The timeless quality of the old classic Devdas prompted him to act in a 2002 remake of the film, he said.

Khan played a young aristocrat in Devdas, a movie about doomed love between childhood sweethearts. "I felt the story needs to be told time and again, such stories are immortal," he said.

Khan has acted in some 50 movies, including blockbusters like Main Hoon Na (I'm Here), Kal Ho Naa Ho (Tomorrow May Never Come) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (Some Happiness, Some Sorrow).

SRK to Play Bad Guy in Dhoom 3
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, October 17, 2006]
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/article/26151.html

Shahrukh makes ‘bad’ look ‘cool’. I’ve been saying it ever since ‘Don’ promos hit the air. Now, ‘Don’ is about to unveil his no-holds-barred villainous act soon but there’s more good news for SRK fans. According to a well placed source, King Khan will be essaying the bad-guy role in ‘Dhoom 3’. Bollywood is really getting confident when it comes to sequels it seems. For even before the release of ‘Dhoom 2’ the plans are already underway for ‘Dhoom 3’.

Another interesting bit of news is regarding Rishi and Neetu Kapoor’s hot looking son Ranbir Kapoor. He is currently wrapping up his debut venture in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ but his performance level has impressed the Yashraj banner so much that they’ve signed a three film contract with the Kapoor scion. And one of these films will be ‘Dhoom 3’. And no, Sanjay Gadhvi won’t be directing it.

It seems a lot of Dhoom is in store for all you guys out there….There’s always Vvvvrrrooooommm…For more excitement. Right!

SRK was abbreviation for screen idol Shah Rukh Khan but now it has new synonym under the name and style of "Still Reading Khan". This will be the biography on reigning Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan containing exclusive pictures and stories about his personal and professional life. The book will weigh four kilos (approximately) and will be priced at three thousand rupees (INR). Mushtaq Sheikh, the author, proclaims it to be a pictorial journey from SRK's struggling days in Delhi to his meteoric rise in Bollywood. This is the first occasion when SRK is felicitated with such enormous tribute from the literary world. So, if you are a big fan of Shah Rukh then you can relive the moments of his stardom and fame through this glorious book.

Don Turns 41…
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, November 02, 2006]
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/article/26554.html

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/8048/don0211062za7.jpg

Shahrukh ‘Don’ Khan turns 41 today. And he is basking in the glorious success of Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don’ that has been a runaway success all over the world. Alright the critics response has been a mixed one, but then Khan has an answer to that: ‘Don Ke Critic Ki Sabse Badi Galti Yeh Hai Ki Woh Don Ka Critic Hai…Public verdict…..Super Hit’.

Shahrukh Khan continues to thrive at the top. “I am amazingly competitive,” he had said in a television interview recently. Salman Khan also said recently that SRK’s streak for being the best emanates from the fact that he is the only earning member of the family and he must stay afloat which is very praiseworthy for he puts in a hell lot of work as well.

This year has been a mixed one for Shahrukh Khan. Firstly there were reports of the cold war between him and Big B. It was substantiated by the fact that he ended up promoting several brands which were earlier endorsed by Mr Bachchan. There were also reports of his alleged differences with Karan Johar and Yash Chopra camp. King Khan refuted all of them and in the midst of the storm and retained his sense of humour. I personally witnessed it during the music launch of ‘Don’ at a suburban mall in Mumbai where he regaled the young crowd by interacting with them in a jovial manner. The manner in which his fans were eager to break all cordons was unprecedented and I haven’t seen something of this sort ever.

On the professional front, friend Karan Johar’s ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ didn’t earn him too many good marks from the critics. And although it was a huge hit abroad, its fate within the country was average. With ‘Don’ he has cemented his position as a solo hero of great promise yet again. And he is eagerly looking forward to Yashraj’s ‘Chak De India’ and Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ which is being helmed by himself as a producer. It has also been learnt from reliable sources that SRK wants to make a sequel to ‘Don’. He is also listening to lots of film scripts and is excited about signing a few of them on the dotted lines soon.

I for one am very happy with SRK turning negative with ‘Don’ for he makes ‘bad’ look ‘cool’ on screen. Another film that is highly endearing is ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ while the youth respect him for doing ‘Swades’.

IndiaGlitz wishes Shahrukh Khan heartiest birthday wishes. May he continue to entertain his fans the world over.

KING KHAN 'DONS' A NEW AVATAR
By Eye TV India Bureau
http://ww.smashits.com/news/bollywood/interview/5891/shahrukh-khan.html
Tete-a-Tete

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8921/1205donlm1.jpg

King Khan is all set to take the reins of the biggest Indian game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' that created history when it was introduced in its earlier avatar. 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' ('KBC') is the Indian adaptation of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' produced by Star India. It has replaced its host Amitabh Bachchan and has roped in Shah Rukh Khan to host this program. But how does he feel when the people say that he is stepping in Amitabh Bachchan's shoes? 'Badshah of Bollywood' shares his experience with smashits while he visited New Delhi to announce his acceptance of the game show as a host.

Excerpts of his talk:

How did you feel when STAR offered you to host KBC?

I was pleasantly surprised when STAR offered me the show. I was a participant in season one of KBC, and little did I know that one day I would be hosting it.

How does it feel when people say that you are stepping in Amitabh Bachchan's shoes?

Well, obviously I have to be patient while giving the answers to all such comparisons. When I acted in 'Devdas' or 'Don' or now when I will be doing 'KBC', comparisons are bound to be made. It is a huge act to follow, that of Mr. Bachchan, but hopefully the people would like it.

Is it a comeback or full circle to the small screen?

It's going to be exciting for me. I am happy that I am getting an opportunity to reach out, talk and interact with my audience through a medium where I began my career several years ago. So, I am looking forward to coming full circle: guess 'unlock kiya jaaye'.

What are your expectations from the show?

I hope it will be a good learning experience for me. I am looking forward to the show. I feel lucky to be part of the India's biggest game show. I hope audiences also like the show. But what I am excited about is that it will get to interact with audiences.

Who is your favorite quiz master?

Mr. Bachchan and Siddhartha Basu are my favorite quiz masters. There is no need for any second thought.

Does that mean less of movies?

No way, see, I make three movies a year which means I work around 80/90 days for a movie and the rest of the time for 'KBC'. I am sure I will be able to do it. I am very professional and a committed person. (Winks)

What style are you going to follow?

Well, it would be Shah Rukh Khan style and the rest will be decided by Siddhartha Basu and Sameer Nair. And, it's the show that has the substance. The concept and format are the main substances of the show.

What's the duration of the contract?

I have been signed for two seasons of the show and have the option to continue for another season. The show is expected to go on air in January 2007.

Milestones in Shah Rukh Khan's chequered career
…In his own words
By Screen Weekly, December 15, 2006 - 04:14 IST
http://indiafm.com/features/2006/12/15/1950/index.html

http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/1929/fauji1go7.jpg
FAUJI (1988) “It was the first time I saw the smiles I could bring to the faces of people I met on the streets…” reminisces SRK who set hearts aflutter and became an “almost celebrity” playing Abhimanyu Roy in Colonel Kapoor’s true-to-life serial on our armed forces.

DEEWANA (1992)
“I liked the characters in Deewana and Chamatkar a lot because they were essentially simple folk…” maintains SRK as he rewinds to the Rishi Kapoor-Divya Bharati starrer that earned him his first award-for Best Debut.

BAAZIGAR (1993), DARR-A LOVE STORY (1993) & ANJAAM (1994) “The Vicky of Baazigar was a psychopath-irrational, illogical and abnormal. He doesn’t kill for his country or a system gone wrong. He doesn’t kill for love or even revenge but for himself. He was completely insane and inhuman. The killer in Darr was a loser who took his loss personally and turned vicious. You pity him, sympathise, even empathise with him. Anjaam, the first negative role I’d signed, was a very morbid film but the killer I played was more human than Vicky. A spoilt, jealous, slightly demented rich boy. Rahul Rawali wanted the character to come as a surprise but after Baazigar and Darr there was nothing new to him…” SRK analyses his trend-setting troika of ‘bad man’ roles. Baazigar fetched him his first Best Actor Award

KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA (1994)
“People say I had negative roles in Baazigar, Darr and Anjaam but I think KHKN was my first anti hero film. Sunil was a failure… He flunked exams, cheated and even lost the girl. Yet, I felt close to him. I could identify with almost every shot, every emotion, which wasn’t a good thing because the scene where I see Deepak Tijori kissing Suchitra Krishnamoorthy shook me so much (because I kept seeing Gauri’s face in Anna) that I just ran away. It was a close-up and just ran away from the camera…” confesses SRK who liked that film so badly he even distributed it. He bagged the Critics Choice Award for a straight-from-the-heart performance.

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9117/ddlj1vi2.jpg
DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE (1995)
“Raj and Simran’s love story reminded me of the time I was courting Gauri. We had our share of family problems too. But eventually I was able to take my dulhania with her family’s blessings. Raj was a dilwala with a heart and I can see him and Simran growing old together. Still very much in love…Still having a lot of fun.” Muses SRK as he reflects on Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut and another award-wining act that changed his image form killer to a lover. DDLJ also made him and Kajol Hindi cinema’s Jodi No. 1.

DIL TO PAGAL HAI (1997)
“In this film I have to confess that my co-artistes, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor were much better than I was and it was their love that made Rahul memorable...” says Shah Rukh of another Best Actor performance.

KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (1998)
“This was the first time I was playing daddy and I know Rahul is the kind of daddy I want to be to Aryan because he reminded me of my dad. The first day I was shooting for the film at Mehboob Studio. I got the news that Gauri was pregnant. I was still shooting for the film when Aryan was born. So I’ve gone through the process of becoming a father myself during the making of KKHH…” SRK on Karan Johan’s directorial debut for which he was once again adjudged Best Actor.

PHIR BHI DIL HAI HINDUSTANI (2000), ASOKA (2001), CHALTE CHALTE (2003), MAIN HOON NA (2004) & PAHELI (2005)
“My home productions have all been different from the norm in their own way. At the same time they have been enjoyable films. Our aim is to make the kind of cinema we like.” SRK talks of his experiences as a producer.

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/7255/devdas1qd8.jpg
DEVDAS (2002)
“Devdas is a very special film in the history of Indian cinema and the chance to interpret it as a person of today’s generation was irresistible…” SRK says of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s award-winning film brought remakes back into vogue.

SWADES (2004) “Swades was a film that needed to be made. It was a film about today… A film about ‘Indianness’ …A film about how the educated middle class could help the country…” SRK elaborates on the eye-opening social.

VEER-ZAARA (2004) “I’d had enough of Indian films deriding and decimating Pakistan. I knew in my heart that this was not a reflection of true sentiment. We have a shared history that is hard to ignore. Veer-Zaara cut across borders and man-made boundaries. It was about the goodness of love…” SRK waxes eloquent about the film that brought Yash Chopra out of self-imposed hibernation and challenged SRK with the role of a much older man who was a prisoner-of-war.

KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA (2006) “From the outside Gauri and I may seem like a happily-married couple but like any two people working or living together, we also have our share of issues. It’s just that we have resolved most of these issues completely,” SRK points explaining how KANK is in no way close to life.

DON (2006) “Don is a dream come true. It is my tribute to Amitabh Bachchan. Don is the king of film I grew up on, and today, I feel blessed that I can mouth lines that have become a part of Hindi film folklore like, ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil nahin, namumkin hai…” SRK on the year’s blockbuster.

It's A Mannat New Year For SRK
This years end and next years beginning will be quite ones for Shah Rukh Khan, as the mega superstar has no big party plans for ringing in the New Year.

King Khan intends to be in Mumbai preparing for Kaun Banega Crorepati, which is scheduled to hit the airwaves next month.

"I plan to read all the newspapers and work on the creative aspects of the show," he said at a recent press conference.

"Besides, I don't think Sameer Nair and Siddhartha Basu are going to let me go anywhere this year. They have even set up a KBC corner in my house to prepare myself," he joked.

In the past, he has spent every New Year away from Mumbai, either at his Delhi home or elsewhere. "This year, it looks like it's going to be Mumbai, with my family."

Exclusive: SRK rocks as the host of KBC

Today was the D day and tonight was the night which everyone was waiting for. As India braced to catch the first glimpse of the King in the Emperor's clothing, the debate whether SRK fits into the shoes of Big B was speculated upon.

Nobody had the answers till 9 pm today. However from the first 30 minutes of the first episode, it seems SRK will has literally fit into the Big B's shoes -- sitting in the same revolving chair, facing the same TFT monitor in the same blue-light ambiance with the same old music playing in the background.

The episode began from where Big B had ended, quizzing the last candidate to appear on Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya, who had ended up earning just Rs 80,000 when the curtains fell on the show.

SRK has stepped into the show when his career is at the pinnacle and if at all people are calling it a big bargain, it's because he risked losing some of his fame, if not fortune, just in case he failed to live up to expectations. But SRK being SRK, he has done it and has added his element of reverence and awe to the show. And if Big B was reverence personified, SRK is all the 'fun and energy', something that is likely to go extremely well with the young.

All said and done, SRK exceeds the benchmark that Big B had set and possibly fix new ones. He has proved that he is definitely the Don when it comes to matching the charismatic baritone of Big B.

Music Review: Kar Le Kar Le Koyi Dhamaal
By Joginder Tuteja, February 26, 2007 - 12:59 IST
http://www.indiafm.com/features/2007/02/26/2303/index.html

http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/818/srk4cv4.jpghttp://img368.imageshack.us/img368/2065/srk5ux4.jpghttp://img168.imageshack.us/img168/7030/srk6ld2.jpg

Whatever Shahrukh Khan does, he does so in style. A characteristic he has demonstrated ever since he joined the industry and proved it once again when he went ahead and made 'Don' a film it turned out to be in spite of being panned by majority of critics worldwide. And now when he is going through something similar as he anchors the legacy of KBC, he does it in his own way again by coming up with a promotional number 'Kar Le Kar Le Koyi Dhamaal'.

To keep the game show visible and also facilitate SRK's stay in limelight till his next film arrives, the single has been featured in the namesake album that also incorporates remixes versions of number of SRK hits of the last few years. So let's hop on to the ride and see what's the question that comes on your way next. Because after all, it is just the question of a question!

Excellent rhythm - that's what you end up exclaiming as the trumpets blow to mark the arrival of SRK. Vishal Shekhar definitely know how to make a highly catchy number as they get the pace going from the very first moment of the track. Rendered by Ganesh Hegde, acclaimed choreographer and song director who made a splash with his debut solo album 'G' last year, it is an open invitation of 'Kar Le Kar Le Koyi Dhamaal'.

In spite of being made for promotional proposal, this number written by Shabbir Ahmed, R.D. Tlang, Kumaar & Asif Baig doesn't restrict itself to the genre and instead suits all kind of situations when you are in mood of celebration! With 'bhangra' beats in tow and some rap and hip-hop thrown in, the song also has some jokes thrown in that never fail to bring on a smile.

'Dhol mix' comes after a while and gives an indication that it may be quite a possibility to have the track being played even in marriage celebrations. Dance on to the beats and have fun; it is irresistible not to put on your dancing shoes while the track is on. And if you are in mood to sing along rather than dance, play on the instrumental version and get on the karaoke!

Special mention should be reserved for the music video of the song that is simply sensational. Glitzy, stylish, innovative and extremely eye candy, 'Kar Le Kar Le Dhamaal' is actually a 'dhamaal'!

As if to prove the point that he is the best, the remix version of 'Main Hoon Don' [Don] is placed next that has the high-on-adrenaline theme music played on for the first one minute. Pumping up the heat and making you look forward to the film once again, this Shaan sung number relives the exciting moments of the Farhan Akhtar directed version of the film due to the high-on-western-arrangements for the remix.

Udit Narayan and Shahrukh Khan sung 'Khaike Paan Banaraswaala' from the same film follows next, this time in its remix version. Enjoyable as ever! What surprises though is the track which follows next since it turns out to be a remix version of 'Yun Hi Chala Chal' [Swades] . Turning out to be unexpectedly groovy when one thought that the original by A.R. Rahman couldn't really be touched, this Udit Narayan, Hariharan and Kailash Kher number impresses even after 2 years of being heard first.

First romantic number of the album comes in the form of Abhijeet sung 'Suno Na Suno Na' [Chalte Chalte] . Beginning in the same manner as the ever popular remix version of 'Pehla Nasha' [Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar] , it has an English rap to kickstart the proceedings. Lovable. Once again. The song shows what Aadesh Srivastava has always been capable of.

Excitement is back once again as the theme music of 'Don' opens up the remix version of one of the best songs of last year, 'Aaj Ki Raat' [Don] . An Alisha Chinoy, Mahalaxmi, Sonu Nigam number that is a must for every stage show today, especially on the award nights, it is a great hear once again. A song later, fourth number from 'Don' arrives as the remix version of Sunidhi Chauhan's 'Ye Mera Dil' sizzles yet again.

Can you have a folk number play in a discotheque? Sounds a little far fetched, isn't it? But then a little bit of remix may just about make it possible. Hear poorly utilized number from 'Paheli', 'Phir Raat Kati', and you would know how. It's a pity that this beautiful rhythmic number by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan was relegated to the end credit roll of the film.

Now this is one song that you want to play on and see over and over again without getting tired at all. 'Tumse Milke Dil Ka' [Main Hoon Naa] was the track by Anu Malik that kick started the trend of fusion-qawallis only to result in dozen odd clones over last couple of years. The remix version here doesn't go overboard at all and just fine tunes the arrangements while adding on a bit of rap. After saying 'Main Hoon Don', SRK is back to his reassuring best by telling the world - 'Main Hoon Naa'. Yes SRK, you are here and you are there to stay!

If you are a SRK fan, this album is a must for you. And even if you are not of the 'fan' kinds, the album comes with good entertainment quotient to keep you in high spirits. With not a single dull moment in this 12 track album, the highlight is of course the promotional number for KBC while the remix versions of the recent SRK chartbusters only add on to the fun.

Rating: ***1/2

Shah Rukh will ‘Don’ new look!
Farhan Akhtar is making ‘Don 2' is a common knowledge now. Like ‘Don', in ‘Don 2' also, Shah Rukh Khan will play the title role, but in different look. As per a close source, SRK will grow moustache and beard for the role so that Sriman ‘Don' can look rude and cruel rather than his suave lady-charming avatar in the first film.

There was a rumour that Shah Rukh Khan will produce the film. However in a recent interview, Farhan Akhtar ruled out the possibility. “Shah Rukh has told me he is not producing ‘Don 2',” said Farhan.
Farhan is now busy promoting his production house Excel Films' next release ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd'. Once the film gets released, he will start working on ‘Don 2'. Meanwhile the talented director has become a proud papa of a baby daughter. On February 12, his wife has delivered the baby girl.

SRK in "KHAN" Karan Johar's next directorial film
Karan Johar has gone to the US for three weeks on a hush-hush mission.

All that is known of it is that he's gone to do research on his next directorial venture which will take him into an area that isn't just sensitive and topical, but also a global issue that requires tremendous spadework.

"Unlike my other films, my next directorial venture goes into an area that I need to get completely right before going on the floors. I'm therefore in the US for three weeks meeting people from various religious, social and humanitarian organisations. None of my films so far have required me to go much beyond my imagination," says Karan.

He says it's too early to elaborate on his project. "But it raises issues that concern us in an immediate way. We cannot turn away from them, because they stare into our faces and conscience every morning from the newspapers," says Karan.

All he is ready to divulge now is that it will have ShahRukh Khan in it for sure.

Shah Rukh Khan is shy of women
Believe it or not, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says that he is shy of women.

In an interview with the weekly newsmagazine Tehelka, the King Khan revealed why he talks so much about his son Aryan and so little of his daughter Suhana: "It's not that I'm not proud of her. In fact, I'm more proud of her in a certain way than even my son perhaps. But I'm shy of women.

"It's very shocking, but even with her friends, I can't play for too long. I think girls should be left on their own. And I've got this thing - I've never seen the inside of my wife's cupboard, or her handbag, or her drawers, or whatever. I've been married since '91, and I can't do it. I think a woman should have a lot of privacy. I'm like that even with my daughter."

SRK admitted that most of his closest friends are women – Farah Khan , Juhi Chawla and Kajol – and most his male friends like Karan Johar are not very macho either.

About his much discussed "asexuality": "Its not asexuality. I'm just shy of women. I wouldn't know how to pick up a lover. If that's the right word to use."

"Sometimes girls say they like me. I don't know what to say, so before she thinks I'm foolish or asexual, I just say something funny. The best way to kill romance is to joke. And, again it's that conservative thing - I can't make the first move..."

Often castigated for dancing in marriages for money, SRK answered why and how: "I do perform at weddings. But it is very difficult to afford what I demand. You have to do it like a show, it has to be in an area where nobody drinks and eats, it will start at 9 p.m. and end at 11.30 p.m., the stage will be 30 by 40 feet, we will make our entries, we will not chat with anyone, we will not eat your food, we will not take pictures with your daughter or daughter-in-law, unless we personally want to. We will come, perform, and we will go away."

Discussing films, SRK said he simply that he doesn't watch them. "I get corrupted. When I see a good film and it doesn't do well, or I see a bad film, and it does well, it confuses me. I saw Rang De Basanti . It was very well done. I was supposed to do a part in it. It was lying with me for about a year. I was shocked by the fact that I couldn't read into the script. I just didn't see any of it."

SRK also admitted that he didn't like close friend Aditya Chopra 's hit film Dhoom 2 because it lacked sensibility.

SRK in a guest appearance in upcoming Yash Raj film?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, March 12, 2007]

His CHAK DE INDIA is slated for an August 10 release but chances are that Shah Rukh Khan would be seen a little earlier too on the silver screen for another Yash Raj film.

If grapevine is to be believed, SRK has been roped in for a guest appearance in the June release of YRF - JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM. A film which already has Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance, it is also touted to have SRK included in the film's cast.

Now if that indeed happens, it would be one great watch to have the two superstars sharing the same frame in the aftermath of their so-called professional rivalry that has picked up steam post DON and KBC!

SRK to Amar Singh: Don't you scare my kids
Controversy seems to be Shah Rukh Khan's best friend these days.

Even as dust swirls around the 'misunderstandings' between him and Amitabh Bachchan, a new antagonist seems to have entered the fray -- the Bachchans' close friend, politician Amar Singh.

The trouble began when Shah Rukh Khan, hosting an award function, joked that he could see 'darindagi' (evil intent) in Amar Singh's eyes.

Singh did not react immediately but, after he returned to New Delhi, vowed he too would insult Khan in public function when he gets an opportunity.

Then, on March 5, a crowd gathered outside Khan's home in Bandra, Mumbai, demanding an apology from the superstar; SRK was not home at the time.

SRK: KBC is not a bolt out of the blue

The Samajwadi Party -- Amar Singh is its general secretary -- said the protestors were not its members. For once, though, the normally cool Khan refuses to take the incident lightly; the protests had frightened his six-year-old daughter who began crying.

In an interview to Mumbai tabloid Mid-Day's Sarita Tanwar, Khan said he would have not have spared the protestors. Exceprts:

Your dig at Amar Singh at an recent award function created quite a furore.

It's silly. I have been hosting that show for many years with Saif (Ali Khan), and we've always made fun of people, including Hrithik (Roshan), Sanjay Dutt, Yash Chopra, Aamir Khan, Binod Pradhan and even myself. I am very clear about this: there is genuinely no malice in what I say.

I mostly pick on my friends, who understand my sense of humour. My whole idea of that awards function was to go indoors and do it like the Oscars, so let's have fun. I am no Billy Crystal or Ellen DeGeneres or whatever.

SRK: I don't like romance

But I have a sense of humour, and if we can all laugh at each other, then why not? Yes, it is important to laugh privately, that's why I didn't enjoy it as much in the open. We are making fun of each other in front of a lot of other people, not just the fraternity.

Amar Singh took offence.

Within the fraternity, we don't take these things personally. and I would imagine that anyone who is at an awards function is from the fraternity.

If you come to an awards function, you become part of the fraternity. And, if by virtue of that fact I see you at every awards function, you'd better be ready to take a joke.

Amar Singh's supporters protested outside your house after your comment.

I had to cancel my shoot and rush home four hours early because my six-and-a-half-year old daughter (Suhana) was crying. People were screaming and shouting outside my house.

My eight-year-old son (Aryan) wasn't crying, but he was made to stay in the house just in case someone decided to throw something or scream abuses. That scares me to the extent of not having any fear at all.

If you scare me by saying that you will harm me, I will be scared, because if I die, who will look after my kids? But if you threaten my children, I will not be in self preservation mode.

'I don't give messages, I try to entertain people'

I can give my life for my kids. Come on, there are only women in my house. My wife wasn't there, my sister is not well and my little daughter was crying. I don't like it! I am a Pathan and I am very, very, very, very protective about my family.

Did you think of calling Amar Singh?

No. I wouldn't. My wife will be very scared when she reads what I am about to say, but if I'd been there... if I'd reached before the cops cleared the protestors... I would have made them all cry for making my daughter cry. And that's the promise of a Pathan.

I would not have spared them. You don't make my children cry. If you have a problem, talk to me. I know where that crowd came from, but now I am being told that Amar Singh did not send them.

Twenty fans of his came from all over India to protest. It's okay. Maybe he didn't send them. I'd like to give him the benefit of doubt because I never lie, so I assume that no one else would either. But don't you scare my harmless kids.

Would you think twice before cracking a joke again?

Like I said, I joke with my friends. If I don't joke with you, you are not my friend. So the next time, I will see. I've been very disturbed after this incident. My daughter crying is not a joking matter.

I take it very seriously. How seriously I take it depends on when I come face-to-face with the people responsible. I wish they'd been there when I arrived, but the cops took them away as soon television channels got there.

SRK: Sometimes ideals have to take a back seat

What I said was a joke. If you can't take a joke, don't come for these events. They're meant for the fraternity. You make a big issue and ask my wife to apologise? Balls. My wife will not apologise to anyone.

Amar Singh has said he will humiliate you in public too.

Let me just say that it is not in my nature to humiliate anyone. I have never done that. I am too educated, too apolitical and too courteous. You know, in all comic acts, the guys sitting in the front row get picked on.

Come on, it's a joke and one should not try to make it more serious. There are a lot more serious issues that the association of 20 people who came to my house can look into rather than scare my daughter.

I take that very personally. And I am not even the kind of guy who expects an apology for this. It depends how I feel the next time. Just remember, I am a demented Pathan.

How will you react when you come face-to-face with Amar Singh now?

I don't know. I don't think in advance. I will not joke with him, that's for sure. Amar Singh said somewhere that 'Shah Rukh makes jokes publicly and apologises privately.'

SRK: I want my kids to take me seriously

I have privately apologised to no one. I would apologise publicly if I felt I had done something wrong. The only thing I do privately is meet friends. I find that whole drama outside my house a little over-the-top, and there are a lot of stories about why it happened.

It could be because elections were on, the publicity factor, whatever, so they did it as my cost. It's okay. I am a public figure. People use me for everything. You can use me too.

But don't bring people to my house knowing fully well that my kids are alone. I don't like that. I have not said anything to your kids, neither will I do that. I would only wish children well. It's in my nature to wish children well.

03 April 2007 (Sawf News) - Leading Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) today officially unveiled his wax replica at Madame Tussauds museum in London amongst much fanfare.

Hoards of fans had gathered outside to catch a glimpse of the immensely popular star.

Tussauds' departed from its usual practice of creating a replica with both arms up and open. The 41-year-old Pathan is shown with his arms folded.

A book titled Still Reading Khan by Mushtaq Shaikh, that chronicles the life of SRK since his childhood, was introduced to the Tussauds' library.

SRK flew into London earlier in the day, ahead of Aishwarya and Abhishek who arrived in the city to attend the world premier of Provoked at London's Leicester Square.

Speaking to the press SRK in his inimitable style said, "Very excited to be here. I've never actually visited Madame Tussauds before."

SRK is the third Indian film star, after Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, to be so honored by Madame Tussauds.

The King Khans of bollywood, Salman and Shahrukh have buried their past differences and now seem to be developing a close friendship. No doubt the two actors are extreme opposites in personalities, Salman aggressive and blunt while SRK diplomatic and charming, but hey opposites attract. According to sources, the one event that has brought Salman and Shahrukh even closer is that both of them did not receive invitations to the grand Bachchan wedding.

Both SRK and Salman have been spotted together enjoying each other’s company quite a few times. However these two have not always been buddies, in fact some time back SRK and Salman were not even on talking terms. The issue was a certain Miss Rai who was acting in a film with SRK, but then boyfriend Salman was not too happy about his ladylove and SRK working together, so there was a huge showdown between SRK and Sallu. After that SRK and Salman stopped talking and SRK refused to work with Ash again. However later Salman patched up with SRK at their good friend Farah Khan’s wedding. And now the two actors seem to have grown closer with time. To make their friendship public, SRK even invited Salman and his girlfriend Katrina Kaif as guests for the KBC finale. The show was a big hit as Sallu and SRK’s camaraderie was clearly evident.

Recently Salman also attended the big World Cup bash that was held by SRK and wife Gauri at Mannat. Salman was seen enjoying himself to the hilt and bonded with SRK and all the guests at the party. Another bollywood biggie Hrithik Roshan too who was not invited for the Ash-Abhi wedding in spite of being Abhishek’s childhood friend also seems to be bonding with Salman and SRK. Well according to sources, Salman and Shahrukh are planning a mega project but right now everything is extremely hush hush. Well if it is a film starring both Salman and Shahrukh, it will definitely be a treat for their fans.

Excerpts from the Koffee With Karan interview:

Karan- You are cousins but is there a wide gap between you in real life?

Rani- No!

Kajol- Not really! No!

Karan- So you’ll are literally meeting after 10 years on a sofa?

Rani- On a sofa?

Kajol- Yeah! It was chairs earlier! (Laughs)

Karan- Alright! But there is always this kind of media speculation that you’ll don’t get along and though you’ll are members of the same family there is no interaction!

Kajol- It is really nothing like that! Basically its more like she’s Tanisha’s age. So for me it’s another generation really! For me she is like a younger sister!

Rani- And I was always closer to Tanisha, than to her.

Karan- Shahrukh you have no problems with anybody?

Shahrukh- I don’t have time to have any problems with anybody!

Karan - Other heroes go through affair issues and with their other liaisons with their heroines and you are just constantly fighting with men, not women. You are only linked with men, not women!

Shahrukh- I truly am the last action hero!

Karan- If Shahrukh, Kajol and you were on a plane which was about to crash and there were only two parachutes on board, which you had control over, what would you do?

Kajol- Dude, I’m family!

Rani- I would probably stay behind and give the two parachutes because, really, people want to see them together!:D (yeah rite!)

Kajol- Stop! Please Stop!

Shahrukh- Tum dono mujhe chipak jaana .. teeno neeche aa jayenge! Kya hai problem yaar! Main Hoon na!:D :D

Karan: If you wake up one morning and you realize that you’ve turned into Aamir, you would….

Shahrukh: I would tell the world that Shahrukh is the better actor.
LMAO I luv his arrognace & attitude !

I found this and just want to share
hope you like
tell me what you think

Does all this apply for u?

You know You're addicted to Shahrukh when......

You visit AsianOutlook's "Shahrukh Khan is the Best" forum so many times during the day that you've lost count.

You try to be the first one to post a new article or picture of Shah Rukh on the forum.

You spend hours creating wallpapers of him.

You get caught in a rain storm and instead of getting upset you start dancing around and singing Koi Ladki Hai from Dil To Pagal Hai.

You wear your long hair parted in the middle just in case Raj Aryan {Mohabbatein} shows up and wants to adorn you with vermillion.

You think nothing of coming home from a party at 2 am and watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

You go to Green Street in London {or any other "Little India"} and catch yourself eyeing the young mens' noses, comparing them for loveliness against the standard of Shah Rukh's.

You tell your friends your dream guy is Aman in Kal Ho Naa Ho.

You see a poster of the Matrix and realize how much better it would be if Shah Rukh was playing the lead role instead of Keanu Reeves.

Your local video store owner is going pagal because you keep asking when the Shah Rukh filmi posters are coming off display so that you can have them for your room.

You ask the video store owner if he/she could just put all Shah Rukh's films in one special section as it would make it so much easier.

If you don't live near "Little India" you know where every video store that sells/rents Shah Rukh's films is located within a 50 mile radius.

Anytime you meet anyone Indian, you just "happen" to strike up a conversation about SRK.

All your desi friends ask you what the latest news on Shah Rukh is and know they can count on its accuracy.

You consider Shah Rukh so much a part of your family that you defend him whenever someone disagrees in the slightest with you on anything about him.

When you tell someone you have Shah Rukh pictures for wallpaper you actually mean on the walls in your house and not just on your computer.

You have a file on your computer titled Shah Rukh's Filmi Song Lyrics.

When annoyed you say "Isssh".

At parties you find yourself doing moves from Chaiyyya Chaiyya {Dil Se}or Dola Re Dola {Devdas} on the dance floor.

You own every one of his films and its accompaning soundtrack {even the ones where he only made a guest appearance} and have them lined up alphabetically.

You have a collection of films/books that are his favorites.

You have your Starbucks coffee the same way he does.

The majority of links on your computer are sites which feature SRK.

***You're convinced that Udit Narayan sings exactly like Shah Rukh. ***

No matter what the conversation is, you can always find some way to relate it to Shah Rukh.

You dream about him.

You have a special calendar just to keep track of the dates for his film openings in the theatre, his film soundtrack releases and television presentations of his films and interviews.

You drive over 50 miles to the nearest Indian cinema to watch him on the big screen.

You know his filmi lines enough to play and win guess the film from the quote.

You can name any SRK filmi song after only hearing the first three or four notes.

You go to an Indian restaurant and wonder where the pictures of Shah Rukh are and why they're not playing the soundtracks to his films instead of the instrumental songs.

Instead of saying "he's a regular Don Juan," you say "He's a regular Shahrukh Khan."

You try and figure out how you can respectfully get into a temple so you can dance and sing Bole Chudiyan.

You've watched his films so many times you no longer need the subtitles.

The first thing you do in the morning is put on one of his soundtracks to get you moving. Listen to them during the day on your portable cd player and fall asleep at night listening to them.

You have his calling cards and save the used ones because you just can't throw any picture of him away.

You use his film titles or his lines from them as part of everyday speech. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Main Hoon Na and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for example get thrown into your conversations...

You have scrapbooks of every article that has ever been written about him.

You have serious withdrawals if a day goes by when you haven't seen one of his films or at the very least listened to one of his soundtracks.
