One person who means
the most to you
My sister Ahana. She brings me pure happiness. She’s the best gift my parents have given me. When she was younger, she was like a little doll I loved dressing up. Today, we’re the best of friends. I can see us growing old together happily.
Two compliments you’ll always cherish
Recently, Mom, Ahana and I performed at the Khajuraho festival and Mom praised Ahana and me like she’s never done before.
Ahana and I have done several Odissi shows in the past but Mom had never ever praised us. I’ve heard my friends’ mothers praising them and I’ve always complained to Mom about it.
But this time she whole-heartedly showered us with praise and I’ll never forget her face when she was saying all those wonderful things. Whenever I feel low, I think of it and am charged.
The compliments I’ve received for my surfboard abs. I’ve been working on them for close to two years now and the results are finally showing. Even if I put on an ounce now, I remember the word ‘surfboard’ and get back into shape.
Three things you never leave
home without
I can’t live without my black DKNY cap
My CD case
My gym kit which has my track pants, T-shirt
and sneakers. So whenever I feel the urge to
work out, I’m prepared.
Four things people don’t
know about you
First, I’m really a very friendly person. Often, because I keep to myself, people think I’m a snob and unapproachable. But that’s only my defence mechanism.
Two, I can do cartwheels.
Three, I can read people’s minds. I have an inbuilt lie detector; I know when people are lying.
Four, I’m God’s messenger on earth (figure that one out!)
Five things you absolutely hate
I hate the amount of time it takes to get ready to face the camera. I have to be on the set before the hero and then sit still for hours till the make-up gets done.
I hate traveling in traffic on Mumbai roads, especially in the evenings.
I hate the word ‘Pack-up’.
I hate the heat in the studios.
I hate the fact that they give you the most amazing nashta on the sets. It’s sinful and it sends your diet flying out of the window.
Six roles you’d have given your left arm to do
n Razia Sultan. Her character has so much poise and depth.
n John’s role in Dhoom. All those bikes had me drooling.
n Julia Roberts’ role in Sleeping With The Enemy.
n Drew Barrymore’s in Poison Ivy.
n Audrey Hepburn’s in Breakfast At Tiffany’s.
n Nargis’ role in Mother India.
Seven memorable moments in your life
n The first time Mom, Ahana and I performed together on stage.
n The first time I performed alone on stage. I started dancing when I was three but my first solo performance was at 15.
n (I know this is very cliched but it was truly a memorable moment for me.) The first shot I gave for Na Tum Jaano Na Hum. I had to do a dance step with Hrithik for the mahurat shot and the whole industry was there.
n The day Dad gifted my sister and me two St Bernard puppies. We were asleep and suddenly we felt something soft moving next to us. The puppies were so cute, they looked like balls of cotton.
n The first time I rode a bike on my own. It was a cool bike and I must have been about 17 or 18.
n The first time a guy proposed to me. I was in the second standard and I thought saying ‘I love you’ was a bad thing. So when he said it, I burst out crying. (lol aww)
n The day I won my Filmfare Best Newcomer Award. I wasn’t there to pick up my trophy because I was stuck in traffic. I’d dreamt of the moment so often and when it came I wasn’t even around. But I cherish the award.
Eight songs that never go off your iPod
n One love by Bob Marley
n Sun is shining by Bob Marley
n Kiska rasta dekhe (Joshilaay)
n Kahin door jab din dhal jaaye (Anand)
n Kawa kawa (Monsoon Wedding)
n Pal pal dil ke paas (Blackmail)
n Love bites by Def Leppard
n With or without you by U2
Nine of your favourite dishes
Ah, I love this one because I can go on and on about the food I love to eat. So here goes:
n Chocolate mint ice-cream from Baskin Robbins.
n Strawberry milkshake.
n Frankies—I like them totally masala daal ke and you get
the best at Juhu.
n The vegetable sandwiches you get outside Jamnabai school. They are so yummy, I want to eat them right now.
n I also love Bhurji Pav and can have it any time of the day.
n I enjoy spicy Rasam with Rice.
n Varan Bhaat is an eternal favourite.
n I simply dig the Caramel Banana Pie at Rain.
n The pizzas at Pizzas On The Park in London are to die for.
And of course my day has to begin with soaked almonds.
